The two moves could not have gone better. The two movers showed up on time, carefully moved all the furniture, and even wrapped a sofa and a pair of recliners in plastic so relatives could more easily pick them up. Movers were polite, personable, and careful. They worked quickly and carefully. It was an excellent moving experience.
Description of Work: Furniture was moved from our home into the garage so our floors could be refinished. Then the process was reversed two weeks later.

Let's start with the good. The three people who showed up to do the move itself were easygoing, worked hard, and got the job done quickly. They helped me take apart and put back together an antique armiore I have that was my biggest concern with the move. The three gentleman who did the move receive high marks from me. There is some bad though. The main thing is that they actually didn't complete the move. They left half of my bed frame from the master bedroom in my condo. They also left their own toolbox. I received a call from the company asking me to bring the toolbox to the new house and leave it outside so they can pick it up, this isn't a big deal and I did so. The problem is the furniture that they left behind. This would not fit in my car, so I called and asked if they could quickly finish the move. They asked me to pay for this at the normal rate, so it would have cost me about $70 or so (for a 30 minute move). This is ridiculous to me, so I rented a U-Haul for $25 and moved it myself. I don't know how these things generally work, but I would imagine that if a moving company literally forgets to move a room, they should own up to it and finish the job. Adding on the fact they asked me to pick up and move the toolbox for them makes it look even worse.

Like the last time, it went smooth as silk, from the initial contact with Brenda to the actual move. We had most stuff boxed up. Regardless of it being a terribly hot/humid days, the guys worked like dogs, getting the job done, never complaining. I doubt we'll move again, but if we do, we'll hire this company again in a New York Minute.

The main problem was that I was told while the moving was in progress that they couldn't finish it that day, as they would not "have enough time" and would go over 8 hours (the estimate stated 8-10 hours) and I was told by the moving guys that I needed to call the office and schedule another date to finish the move. (There was plenty of room on the truck for the remaining items). So I called the office and was given a date 4 days later to finish the move, which was very difficult for me and my family to accommodate. Even though one of their employees had come to our house and been shown all our belongings prior to the move to provide an estimate, I was told that we "had more stuff than they thought." There were also heavy items to be moved and they stated they were concerned the rain would make the back steps slippery, but these items could also have been taken out through the front door. The final cost was $188 above the upper limit of their estimate, even though we had already moved many household items ourselves after the estimate was provided. In addition, on the first day of the move the movers did not cover the off-white carpet staircase with a runner, and tracked dirt/mud on it, as it was raining. They did use a runner on the second day of moving, after I had complained to the office. Finally, they forgot to return to us the hardware to assemble the beds, and I had to call the office to get them to return this to us. The movers themselves were polite and in general did a good job, and the primary problem seems to be planning and organization from the main office. The company did say they would provide a third mover on the second day at no charge and would not charge for travel time, but they still went over estimate. If you are moving from a small apartment they probably do a good job, but if you are moving a medium/large household, I would look elsewhere if you want to be sure everything is moved the same day.

We moved at the end of October. We were quoted $780, they charged us $1150 at the end of the day. They said we had WAY more than we said we did...we didn't. The two men complained the whole time and damaged my son's crib and our coffee table. When we called to reconcile the damage, they send out an old man recovering from pneumonia. Brenda told us they don't replace your item if you don't have a receipt from time of purchase and even then they fix things, they don't replace. So if they move for someone who's had a piece of furniture for years, they expect a receipt?? They know most people don't save that and I'm sure they count on it. When the man came to "fix" the damage, we told him DO NOT paint the gouge on the crib because babies are known to chew on cribs when they get older and can stand. We did not want him to put his mouth on paint. He painted it. Brenda said she'd give us back part of the difference between our quote and the price we ACTUALLY paid. Still no check. This company is horrifying. Do not spend your money here!!! See the attached pictures to see what happened to my furniture due to their carelessness. We have received NOTHING for our loss and inconvenience. UPDATE: The check showed up and they put a stop payment on it. This company is horrifying.

Response from MAD CITY MOVING SERVICES
We base our estimates on the inventory that is provided by the customer. This customer went onto our website and filled in her inventory. She had indicated that she had 28 pieces of furniture and 51-100 boxes going from the 2nd floor apartment to another 2nd floor apartment. Upon arrival to load, the inventory was much more then indicated mostly over 150 boxes. What should have been about a 1/2-3/4 a 28' truck full was a packed full truck. When we arrived to the unload there was actually 3 flights of stairs, which greatly impacts the unloading time. All these things impact the time that it takes. As with most moving companies, estimates are only as good as the inventory provided. The estimate was for 6 hours at $130/hr totaling $780, the actual time spent was 8.25 hours a cost of $1072.50 (not $1150 as mentioned above). The day after the move [Member Information Removed] husband called and stating there was a scratch, which was about 2 in long on the outside of the crib, and a table that was damaged, and mentioned that they had emailed me a new, similar one. We then discussed the reasoning for the estimate going over, he agreed that there may have been a few more items and more flights then disclosed, but that he was the customer and we should just give him his money back to make him happy. I conveyed my disagreement to that, and he then began to threaten me stating if I didn't give him some money back he would "ruin us" on social media. I agreed that after his repair was complete to his satisfaction I would send him a partial refund of $136.00, with the understanding that he would not speak negatively about our company. He agreed to that. He called towards the end of the week of the 13th of November and said that he was satisfied and wondering where his check was. I stated I would send it out with our check run on Monday 11/20. It was processed on 11/20, and sent out. Not sure if they didn't really receive it or not, maybe just going back on our agreement. Contrary to to Ms. [Member Name Removed] statement we provide free of charge present value insurance with a move. Replacement insurance is available, [Member Name Removed] did not choose to purchase that. Our policy and liability statements, sent with all our estimates and ( see our website) states that in the event of an accident and damage occurs, our 1st step is to repair the item. The gentleman who has over 40 years in the furniture industry, went out and repaired the scratch (not gouge). Since it was on the outside of the crib, and the crib has original paint on it, he did touch up the scratch. Had the [Member Name Removed]'[Member Information Removed] requested he not paint it, then he would have complied with their wishes. He indicated that the table that they were claiming that was damaged, was not fresh, and that it had been done prior to the move. We repaired the damaged that we caused which is our obligation, I attempted to split the difference in the estimate by refunding them a portion of what went over, with an agreement, they have now gone back on. Her husband called shortly after my response to the BBB and threatened me again. Stating I was going to be paying a lot more than the $136 for doing this, he would make sure of it. I advised him that he was to not threaten me again or I would get the police involved. There is a correct way to handle it and an incorrect way, and threatening someone is not. I did put a stop payment on the check after they went back on our agreement. The stop payment was placed the day after they wrote their review on google which was on 11/30/17, 10 days after the check was sent, and after they wrote their review. We do 5000 moves a year, and unfortunately most of the time the unhappy speak the loudest. Yelp, who intentionally hides reviews, is not a fair or complete picture of our service. Those are such a small percentage of the moves that we do. As stated before, we can only estimate on the information that was given and if that information is incorrect as it was, the estimate is going to be incorrect. They gave us incorrect information, and again conveyed incorrect information, inflating what they paid for the move saying $1150, when it was $1072. Not sure if Ms.[Member Name Removed] understands how the mail system works, but the mail carriers don't pick up mail from us and drive it directly to her mailbox. It gets picked up, taken to Milwaukee, sorted, and brought back to the Madison area and delivered. In those 10 days, there was also a 2 Sundays and a Thanksgiving holiday. I have no control over the mail system. As stated before I attempted to rectify this, and they have continued to make it more difficult, and have said things on social media, online and on the phone that are irreversible. I will not be offering any other type of refund or agreement. She has on multiple levels tried to threaten, and do anything possible to hurt us. She 1st took this to the BBB and they found that we tried to resolve this satisfactorily.

Wonderful! The staff were friendly, fast and patient. They were happy...which makes me feel good about hiring this company assuming they pay and treat their employees well. The Victorian house has a lot of intricate wood work and they were conscious and careful with our stuff and the house. I was impressed with their attitude and professionalism. We will recommend and hire them again in an instant.

It was a great move! James, Brandon & Steve were the team. Because of the piano I had, 3 movers were needed. I can describe the guys as polite, careful of everything they handled, considerate of both houses--rolling out mats to walk on, saran wrapping things, etc. They didn't take any breaks but were constantly moving even running up the stairs. They worked as an efficient team --each one knowing what to do when. They also carried old mattresses out for us & loaded my car with the old clunker TVs to be recycled. The smiles were abundant & they certainly helped to make a difficult time much easier. Five stars is not high enough for this crew & company!

Everything went very well. The move was completed in just under 6 hours while I observed on both ends. The crew could not have been more professional or responsive to my wishes. I checked everything in the next two days and did not find anything damaged, not even a scratch.
Description of Work: We changed apartments in our apartment complex, from a third floor apartment to one on the first floor in another building.. We have a small houseful of quality furniture, artwork, and a moderate professional library that we wanted moved with care. We contracted with Mad City Moving for an appropriate truck and a 3-person crew to do all the moving. Previously, I had packed everything that could be packed so the crew could concentrate on the actual moving.

Very well. The estimator arrived on time and was thorough and professional. In the end we moved some things ourselves in advance, so we came in well under the estimate. The three movers, Lucas, Steven, and ?Barrett, were careful and attentive. The worked steadily and finished in a very reasonable time. Nothing was broken and things were set up well at the new house. This is the second time I have used Mad City and both experiences were very good.

Our two movers showed up right on time and got straight to work. They carefully wrapped and blanketed all furniture and delicates, organized our things carefully in the truck, and were done right on time to come in at the estimated price range. Unlike other companies we got quotes from, they didn't charge overtime for working on a Saturday. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Terrible: The piano (Baldwin Console, 25 years old) fell due to faulty strapping in the moving truck. Mad City Movers had a local expert fix the wood on the piano corners where it hit the ground. However, the pedals, 3 keys, soundboard need to be fixed and piano tuned which they are not going to do. They actually sent me an invoice for the moving cost - which I told them I would not pay. They agreed. At the time of the piano falling, the officer manager told me they would have the wood fixed and send a tuner to tune and inspect it. They did not follow through and said they do not pay for tuning. Well, most pianos do not fall over when being transported. They told me one thing on moving day and yet did something completely different. I would never recommend them and would get repair verbiage from over the phone into writing next time.

I would rate our move experience first class. James, Dave and Alex just rocked it out on the hottest day of the year. They were prompt, friendly, careful and just 3 awesome guys. We have moved many times and these three guys were simply the best. We made sure to have Gatorade and water for them and they just pushed through the heat. I can't thank them enough from two older adults who couldn't have done what they did!

Good professional scheduling. Moved all items safely and professionally. Reliable service. Only factor was they did not remember to place moving floor mats in the original home (although they did it in new home) -- got a little dirty otherwise no complaints.
