Mike Betch and his 2 helpers were on time on day one (12/21/15) worked for 2 ½ days and then came back on the 29th & 30th to complete and made sure that I was satisfied with their work!
Description of Work: Install an 80 CFM Panasonic exhaust fan in bathroom. Air seal attic penetrations. Installed vent chutes and blocking and insulated the 2 attic 3 prices to R-60. Removed the front soffit panels and air sealed the cantilevered 2nd floor. Insulated and air sealed the boxes in the basement. Installed a fire barrier between the 2 units in the attic space.

Mike and his crew of Chris and Dustin did a great job of sealing and insulating our basement room. The whole basement has benefited from not having this source of cold and moisture and I expect my utility bill to go down from not having to run a dehumidifier in that room constantly. They also insulated our front door and helped to reduce a significant winter draft there. There was still an excessive draft coming in around the bottom corners of the door after they finished. When I called about this, they came out promptly the same day and went the extra mile in doing everything they could to eliminate the draft. In my opinion, if you are looking for a contractor for any project, the highest compliment you can pay and the greatest assurance you can have is that the contractor responds to such "complaints" after he has been paid. By this standard, Mike Beich is the best. One note for homeowners to be aware of (and this is not a complaint) is that the estimate is not a binding contractual offer but an estimate. Mike had estimated our basement room insulation at $650 on Oct. 15, 2015 but when we had the job done three months later materials costs had increased and the charge went up to $850. Still quite a bit better than a competing estimate. Similarly, the door insulation was to be $100 but there were some unexpected "wrinkles" and the charge ended up being $150. Both fair adjustments, in my opinion.
Description of Work: Insulated an open, fully concrete room in my basement. This room was a constant source of condensation and moisture because of the concrete surfaces exposed to freezing temperatures outside. Also, insulated around our front door.

Mikey and Chris did an excellent job. Basically, they do whatever it takes to get the job done right. They work extremely hard and don't cut corners. Upfront, they tell you that they are not the cheapest but they do excellent work and they will not upcharge you for added services. So, the initial quote from Mikey may be a 5-10% higher than other contractors but what you get from Mikey and Chris is a worry-free experience, an exceptional end product and no surprises on the final bill!
Description of Work: Insulated attic and knee walls to R-60. Spray-foamed sill boxes in basement. Air sealed house. Installed Panasonic quiet fans in the kitchen and bathroom. I only paid $2500 for the work because I received a $2000 instant rebate from Focus on Energy because I was income qualified.

Mikey and his crew were very friendly and did quick and careful work. They re-vented my bathroom fan through the roof. The bathroom has never vented so well. No more dripping walls after a shower and the fan is much quieter now that it is vented correctly. He also tightened the latch on my gate and the handle of my screen door because it was bothering him.

I bought a coupon for two man hours of work from the company. The deal was for one hour of work by two workers. They showed up when they promised and were professional and had the needed tools for the job. I needed them to fix a leaking pipe. Unfortunately after an hour and a half of work including a trip to the hardware store they were not able to fix the leak. They said that the problem was the pump that was connected to the leaky pipe. Apparently the thread on the pump was stripped and the pump had to be replaced. Because it took them a longer than expected I had to pay them for the extra time at their regular rate and for the parts that were required their attempted repair. I was not happy that the leak was not fixed but I was not upset at the company because it wasn't their fault. Well I decided to call a professional plumber to come take a look at the leak. It took him, by himself, 15 minutes and a two dollar copper connector to tighten the pipe to the pump and fix the leak; without a new pump. So I essentially paid the company $130.00 for nothing.

Excellent. The team of Let Mikey Do it was professional, timely, and efficient. I have very little "fix it" skills and it was a relief to have someone very knowledgable to answer all of my questions and concerns. They communicated the process to me so that I would understand the timeframe and work that would be done; the results of their work are great. I am so happy with the new tub surround tile.

Mikey sent out 2 young men with whom we were very impressed. They did a couple of small jobs for us and did them very well. In talking with them, they seemed very knowledgeable. For the next little job, they said they would go out and get the parts and set up a time to come back. They never came back. I called Mikey numerous times. The last time I called him, he said, "I will call you next Tuesday." He did not call. We were very disappointed as my husband and I really liked these 2 young men. We wished it was possible to contact them directly. However, it seemed that MIKEY was the BOTTLENECK. It was a VERY STRANGE EXPERIENCE!

I like Mike but we had a hard time connecting. I placed my order on April 16 and the work was finally performed on June 10. Mike was pretty good about getting over to take a look at the work to be done but then it took him quite a while to get back to me with an estimate (I got it about 10 days after I expected to get it. I asked for an itemized estimate but never got a written one. The estimate for the work was $900 plus materials for 16 hours of work (but this included spray washing and repairing our deck as well as a couple of light fixtures, which we did not have him do); The estimate contained no details other than the hours and costs. I wanted more detail because I wasn't sure what was costing what and wasn't sure I wanted all of the work to be done. I also pointed out that Mike had indicated his normal rate was $50 an hour and that I had prepaid for 4 hours of work so the most the bill should be was 16 hours - 4 hours = 12 hours; 12 hours x $50 per hour = $600, plus materials. Mike agreed but at best this was sloppy accounting. I still wanted a written estimate which again I did not receive. We scheduled the work for 8 a.m. on June 10th. I had told Mike I would be fixing the lights and around June 1st I called Mike and told him we would skip the deck repair and spray wash since we were thinking about just replacing the deck. Mike's helper Chris got to the house at 9:30 a.m. on the 10th indicating that Mike was coming soon (I had given up on seeing them when he finally arrived). Chris thought they were going to be spray washing the deck and didn't have a list of all of the other projects to be done along with him. He was a nice young guy who is clearly doing some on the job training. He did a very nice job on our major project - fixing the front entry way. Mike came about 45 minutes later and was in and out of the job during the day - my impression was the he was primarily here to do the plumbing related work. He fixed our faucet after getting part from a local plumbing store for under $10 (he had said if he couldn't get the part the faucet would have to be replaced; I was happy). In fact, I was generally happy with the work that was performed. On June 15 we got the bill for Mike's services. He listed the services as I indicated above and billed us for 8 hours of work, plus $69 for materials. The time seemed about right. I have contacted him about the bill because it had a couple of problems. He charged us $300 for the 8 hours of work when he should have charged us $200 (I had prepaid for 4 hours of work for $100, but instead of subtracting 4 hours, he subtracted the $100 I had prepaid for the service). I was a little disturbed because I had purchase a piece of fairly expensive trim to be used for the work on the front entry way. It was way too long so I had it cut in half expecting to use the other piece for something else but when Mike left all of the trim left with him. I'm not sure what happened there and inquired about it. I was also a little concerned about the materials cost but I am no expert and just asked for a breakout of materials costs when Mike sends the corrected invoice, which I have not yet received. In summary, Mike did and Chris did good work. It was hard to communicate with Mike and he and Chris weren't prompt. Mike is sloppy with his accounting and although he readily corrects his mistakes, you have to double check his bills.

Response from Let Mikey Do It
I have attempted to resolve this issue with (member name removed) several times. He has a “to do” type list of things that needed work on. I’ve been doing this work for many years, and have found it best to offer a hourly rate rather than breaking down all the little jobs requested to do. The reason for this is because with 2 people working on the list, one can work on something while the other works on another. Many times these jobs will be worked on by 2 people, other times just one. But at all times, both workers are working on some part of the requested list. This makes is extremely difficult to pick a part each small job and change the customer for actual time spent on each job. I found his request for an itemized list for the exact time spent on each small job unrealistic and very difficult to break down according to his request. All jobs on his ‘to do’ list were done in a timely manner, many of the jobs overlapping. All jobs were gone in 8 hours. He requested an itemized list of all materials, which I did provide to him. I even sent him the actual receipts for him to keep. I attempted many times to explain how I came to the final amount due. At one point, I even had my wife write up a bill for him, in hopes that she could explain it in a different way that he might understand. That didn’t happen, and I still cannot understand how he cannot understand my bill. (member name removed) purchased a coupon off Angie’s List. I enclosed a copy of the exact coupon he purchased for you to see. The title line reads “$99.00 for Four hours of Handyman Service”. Under the title, lists the ‘rules’ for the coupon. Under the second dot it states… For labor only (one worker for FOUR hours, two workers for TWO hours). So with two of us working on his to-do list, that means TWO hours of handyman service. His final bill was for 8 hours of handyman service, plus materials. 8 hours minus 2 hours from the coupon = 6 hours of service still due. At an additional $50.00/hour rate = 6 X 50 = $300.00 I know that (member name removed) must understand the offer, because on 6/21/2015, he wrote “I understand that the coupon if for one man for 4 hours or two men for two hours or even 4 men for one hours”. The very next line he wrote he doesn’t understand because I billed him for 8 hours of work and then only deducted two hours when it should have been four. He just stated that the coupon was for Four hours for one man, two hours for two men. TWO MEN WORKED ON YOUR PROJECTs. The additional costs for the remainder of the project was discussed with Mr. Petershack prior to finishing the job. Because he is an Angie’s list coupon holder, I extended the coupon worth ($50.00 an hour for TWO workers) for the rest of his project, which is actually about half of what I normally would charge. I believe I have given (member name removed) a fair price already and because of the low overall price charged, giving any more of a price break would actually be costing me money. I don’t believe there is anything more I can do to help resolve this. I‘ve explained my billing several different ways, and he refuses to acknowledge the listed provisions of the coupon. I’ve provided him with my bill and believe the rest is in his hands.

Mike and Chris worked for more than four days on my place, granted not both at the same time although they overlapped quite a bit. It was a real pleasure to interact with them. I believe that they did a great job and the price was reasonable. They ordered missing/broken parts and tried to save us money. Although i paid them before some loose ends were taken care of, they came back and wrap up the entire job. Overall, a very good experience. As i told Mike, when I need help i'll call him again. Great job done by two nice people. Thank you, Mike and Chris.

After arriving a few minutes late (my condo association is a little h****** the parking side of things), Mikey and his side kick got straight to work. When they realized they needed another part to fix my leaking faucet, Mikey called around and visited several stores looking for it while his assistant continued to work on my bedroom door. Once he returned without the part, since it was out of stock, they decided to call it a day. But then, maybe 35 minutes later he called me back saying he had found it after all. Then hecame back out and fixed the faucet! And through it all, all of the running out to the truck and around town for supplies, the guys were respectful enough to always remove their shoes which I thought was very nice. :)
Description of Work: Mikey fixed a leaking toilet, a bedroom door that had pulled away from the door jam and attempted to fix a leaky faucet for which there were no in-stock parts anywhere in town. After calling and running all over town we came to fine that the part needed to fix the leaky faucet wouldn't be available for at least two weeks. Mikey decided to call it a day, put everything back together and surprisingly it wasn't leaking!

I am a new Angie's List member and this is my first time utilizing a service that I purchased from Angie's List. I had various small projects around the house that my husband either did not have the skills or time to do. Mikey from Let Mikey Do It was very quick in contacting me after I purchased his service to set up a time. I attached pictures of what I wanted done and discussed with him over the phone about the tasks in advance. Unfortunately, due to Mikey being so busy, the service wasn't able to be scheduled for 2 weeks. Mikey ended up having to delay the date for the service for another couple of weeks, but he was very apologetic and nice about it when he called to reschedule. On the date of the service, Chris from his company showed up an hour late, but I appreciated Mikey answering his cell phone when I called to make sure someone was still coming. Chris was very polite, nice, and professional. He kept me updated on everything he was doing for every project, and educated me on what needed to be done to get the jobs done right. One of the projects involved re-anchoring a towel rack to the wall, after it came off the drywall from previous shoddy repairs. After Chris re-anchored the towel rack to the wall, I noticed that it was uneven compared to the window sill right above it. Chris explained that it was because the window was not level, whereas the towel rack was. He offered to adjust it again for me, but I decided that I would rather he spend the remaining time on the other projects instead. To my surprise, Chris decided to adjust the towel rack anyhow because he understood the aesthetics of it might bother me. It was a tricky project because the drywall around that area was already previously compromised and there was wiring near where the bolts were but Chris diligently took his time to make sure the job was done right. He did not charge me for the additional time spent doing this, as he stayed longer to finish up the remaining project. The last project involved adjusting bricks that lined my raised vegetable garden. The end result was so much better than what I had hoped for! This was apparently only a temporary fix to get my through the summer growing season, as Chris explained to me, and some more intensive work would need to be done to keep the bricks from falling over again in the future. Given what I had experienced with this company, I will definitely be contacting them in the fall to come back to do the work for me. I am a very happy customer!

I was looking for someone to do air sealing / insulation / energy efficiency work on my older (1950s) house. I was very pleased with the work these guys did. They obviously knew what they were doing, and everything went smoothly. They were also very friendly, always answering the questions I had, and each morning they would explain to me what had been done the previous day and what stage of the project they were on. I would definitely use them again and I would recommend them to anyone. I'm already enjoying living in my newly-sealed and insulated house!
Description of Work: Energy Efficiency work: Replaced old bath fan (vented to the attic) with a new one vented through the roof. Air sealed many holes in attic (sewer vent pipe, ceiling mounted light fixtures, interior wall plates, drop soffits, etc). Added blocking around attic exterior. Removed old insulation and added cellulose to R-60. Insulated basement sill boxes.

I wanted to hire Let Mikey Do It to perform some handyman work around my house, and hoped to buy one of the Angie's List deals. However, due to a bad experience with a prior handyman, I wanted to at least talk to if not meet someone before hiring Let Mikey Do It. On its website, Let Mikey Do It has a form to request an estimate. After filling that out and getting no response for a week, I called the number. I have since never received a return call despite multiple weeks passing.

I am so sorry that this occurred. I truthfully have no records of you writing or calling. My wife checked into the website estimate request form. Turns out all my emails from my website were going directly into my spam folder. We believe we fixed that problem, so from now on I should receive all estimate requests. I also didn't receive any phone messages from you, that I am aware of. Again, the wife tried calling the number the website gave, and she kept getting a busy signal, or an immediate disconnect. I will look into that on Monday morning. Again, I apologize. I don't blame you for wanting to talk and meet any handyman that does work for you. I can agree with that practice and would do so myself. I'm sorry you had bad experiences with handymen before, but please know that there are some good ones out there. Michael Beich "Let Mikey Do It" (608)332-3690

I originally hired Mikey through Angie's list due to a $500 coupon for an attic insulation install. He came out to give us an estimate and suggested we call Energy Star to get a comprehensive energy audit. We did that and Mike worked with the consultant and gave us a bid on the whole project. Mike pointed out the energy rebate and $500 coupon which was automatically figured into the price. We came to a payment agreement and a few days later the project began. The 2 people that came to do the work were extremely courteous, friendly, and professional. After a few days, I came to believe that they took real pride in their work. They went out of their way to do things "right" and they did a few things that were not on the list of "to dos". When the project was almost finished, Mike hired the Energy consultant to do a quick energy audit to make sure that they didn't miss anything. In the initial energy audit and the final audit (after the project was done) One of the measurements the Energy Star Consultant used was a door blower measurement. The work that was done took the house from a 7 total house air replacement per hour to around a 4 air replacement per hour at 50 Pascals. We are told that 3 total house air replacement or less was considered pretty much air tight. There were some things that couldn't be done without prohibitive costs such as air sealing the basement sills due to the basement being built in and having drywall ceilings, We also have 2 wood burning fireplaces that could not be insulated around the flues. However, we can tell that house is tighter and the furnace is working less. Our house was built in 1969, and as far as I could tell there were no upgrades in energy savings work since that time. Comfort was the main reason we wanted the energy upgrade and it is certainly more comfortable after the work was done. I certainly would recommend "let Mikey Do It" for energy savings upgrades and we will use the company again for other jobs around the house.
Description of Work: installed 2 chimney locks, 2 bathroom fans, air sealed home and blew insulation into attic plus other energy saving odds and ends.

It went very good, excellent. I think he is very experienced. He know what he is doing. He explained everything that he was doing to me. He is real good person personality wise. He had to make couple of trips to down the hardware store and he told me about what he was doing, his price was very fair and he just did good work. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: I used Let Mikey Do It in June. They did couple of different things with ceiling fan and garbage disposal.

I don't have a whole lot to add -- dealing with Mike is how you would like all your professional interactions to work out. He works with you, communicates superbly when it's necessary, is available when you need to talk with him, and completes the job in the timef rame he stated.
Description of Work: With a rental property I own, in one of the units, the subflooring had become wet and weak which was discovered when I was replacing the toilet. I hired Mike to come in, rip up the old floor where it had rotted, replace the underflooring in that area, put in new bathroom tiling and reinstall the toilet. Did a great job, was easy to work with and very responsive and two years later it is as nice as the day he put it in.

Mike was very courteous and professional. He was running a bit late but when he got here was very thorough and competent. The removal of the faucet took longer than expected due to some unforeseen issues, but he stayed late and got the job done. He even ran out to Menard's to buy a missing part and finished the job in about two hours. I recommend him and would use his services again.
Description of Work: Mike helped remove an old bathroom faucet and install a new one.

The team was very nice, professional and courteous. The job took most of the week. The ceiling fans that needed to be replaced were smaller than the other ones (higher quality though), so they contracted out the drywall guys. These guys were actually very rude, unprofessional, swearing and probably drunk. So, being aware of this, the team did their best to correct the problem and stayed long just to supervise and check to make sure everything was ok. Hopefully they don't use these particular drywall guys again. The work is not completely finished. The timer switches for the fans are on backorder and the drywall needed to dry, so some small areas need to be painted yet. This was explained to me with apologies. Not a big deal. Overall I was very pleased. I can instantly tell a difference in how warm it is upstairs due to the insulation.
Description of Work: My attic had more insulation blown in. Two bathrooms had ceiling fans with lights replaced. One had to be vented to the outside. The other already was. The attic was then caulked shut. A window was replaced in the basement. The man door to the garage was completely replaced. Back door had weatherproofing redone. Some other small misc jobs were also done.
