KRIS' CUSTOM SEWING

Went to Kris for custom cushions on a vintage wrought iron patio set. I took her the sizes for a quote. She quoted $1800.00 for all the required cushions which included 4 small bistro size chair pads, one chase lounge pad, one regular chair pad and back, one ottoman pad, and one large sofa bottom pad and back this required 4 total as it was a large two piece sofa about 88" long. I thought the price was a bit steep but she explained the cost was from the expensive fabric (Sunbrella) and the type of open cell foam she uses. She prepared a written copy of the quote but did not give me a copy. We thought about it for a few days, looked around online and decided we would spend the extra to get the custom size cushions as well felt $1800 was a lot of money for patio furniture cushions. I called Kris and we decided it was best to bring the furniture to her so she could get them fitted perfectly when they were making the cushions. So We loaded up all the pieces in our trailer and dropped them off at her shop. She said she needed a check for 1/2 down so we wrote her out a check for $900. . About two weeks later we got the call that our cushions were complete and ready for pickup. They looked great very pleased with the work but that's when our excitement ended. After loading most of the furniture up we went in to pay the final $900, to our surprise Kris wanted an additional $3000 for the final payment!! She started to make up excuses (lies) about the estimate and that the $900 down payment was only 1/3? Not only a lie from what she told us but her math is also very bad! She said she made an error in her estimate on hours and told us when we dropped them off that it would be more? Again another flat out lie as now way would we have agreed to $4000.00 for outdoor cushions!! And why would she have requited after the estimate as she had no idea we were even coming back for the work! We argued about the price and she agreed to drop the final bill $500. We paid the price as we had a large wedding party at our home the next day and needed the furniture. Very dishonest business owner, we probably should have taken her to small claims court. We would never ever use her again and caution all others to stay away!
