I don’t trust this company. We spent $1,300 for some re-wiring and immediately after the work, our living room/hallway lighting stopped working, even though it had always worked before. We called them to address it and they charged us for fixing a problem that they created. We thought we had an agreement that we shouldn’t have to pay for this but we were billed for it about 5 weeks later and they would not budge.
Description of Work: We had them do some wiring because we kept blowing a fuse, losing power. Then we had them come back to address an issue resulting from the work they had done.

Highly professional service. Repairman went above and beyond, moved my fridge to get it farther from the fuse box. Repairs and new work spanned visits on two days; same electrician came (which was very helpful); was familiar with plan, explained everything, and front office was excellent to work with.

Hill Electric came recommended to me by a friend. Her exact words were, "They aren't cheap but they're good." My response, "You get what you pay for!" My 108 year old home has a lot of weird things going on with the electrical - switches that don't turn anything on, plugs in odd places, flickering lights, etc. I had a big list of little things that I wanted fixed, installed, checked out. Rick came out and did a walk-through with me, made some suggestions, and even talked me out of one thing I thought I wanted done and it saved me a bunch of money. The estimate was in my inbox within 48 business hours. As my friend said, it wasn't cheap but it was reasonable as long as they did a good job. The team showed up on time (I forgot they were coming and answered the door in my pajamas!), they were courteous, professional, and very clean. They were in the house for about 6 hours and ended up doing a couple of little extra jobs while they were there. The provided a lot of feedback on how or why we would do things a certain way and they accommodated my weird OCD thing about symmetry - I wanted something centered, which wasn't really possible, so we left justified it instead. LOL Overall, I was very happy with the work that was done and the information I received from the people I worked with. I will absolutely use them again (as I matter of fact, I've already started a new list).

Let supervisor know it didn't go so hot and they were not real responsive either; both parties were very defensive. As a customer, when you know you're about to shell out several hundred dollars for something, you at least want them to be nice about it even when you know it's a hard job...thus why you're paying someone to do it right.
Description of Work: We ended up taking off of work and the provider told us it was "too big of a job" to do that day and tried to talk us out of the future job to make "easier."

He called about half hour before arriving. The service person was very friendly and professional. There were several problems identified, and one required calling WOLF technical service. We were put on hold for a long time on the phone, but the service person asked me if there were other jobs to be done in the house while we waited. There were, and this resulted in efficient use of his time. The high cost was due in part to the fact that he had to be in my house for over one hour.

Hill Electric responded to an emergency call to fix a tripped circuit breaker that covered my refrigerator. Since I had weekend guests it was important to me to have my refrigerator working. The service person came between other jobs and the response was much faster than I anticipated. It took him just seconds to diagnose the problem and minutes to fix it. I mentioned that I would have him come back to correct a bad plug on my electric stove and he fixed that while he was here, too. That was service above and beyond my expectations and I was very grateful for his expertise. I won't hesitate to contact Hill Electric in the future.

It was the worst experience I've ever had with electricians. See above. Very discouraging.
Description of Work: Hill Electric was supposed to remove and rewire all knob and tube wiring in home we purchased prior to the closing. This included outlets, ceiling fans, light fixtures and closet lights. Unfortunately, they simply discontinued (i.e., cut off) wiring in multiple locations on the 2nd and 3rd floors, including many closets and several bedrooms. Hill states that the sellers told them to do this. They were also supposed to locate all the knob and tube, and our insurance company relied on their statements that they had located all the knob and tube and removed it. They missed knob and tube in the house, which we didn't find out until after we had closed. At least 16 locations in the house required remedial electrical work. They were very difficult to work with in remediating the discontinued wiring--their electricians delayed our rehab by failing to show up as scheduled so my contractor couldn't proceed with his work. The project was a mess because it's an old house with thick plaster walls that had to be opened up for a second time to do the proper wiring. Right now we are having a problem with the bill. Hill is unapologetic about cutting off the wiring, saying they do what their customers tell them to do, and keep their work up to code. The cost of the remedial work was close to $6000.00.

Our technician was John, and he did great work. The smoke alarms look great, and though it took some extra care to wire them into the existing system, he did it efficiently. It is also great to have the garage up to code. John was thoughtful when doing the work, being careful to set up the garage so that we would have the electrical for a garage-door opener, should we install one later. John also did the electrical for a radon mitigation system going in while he was here, even though I hadn't mentioned that before.

They were professional and responsive, but the quote was unbelievably expensive. My dad is an electrician so I had a rough understanding of what our work would cost. (I only didn't use my dad because he lives in another state). I was very surprised at the quote. We went with someone else. The quote from here was $1300 and we ended up paying a bit over $300.

We had a tight schedule as the electric had to be done before the plastering... before the painting ... before the floor refinishing ... before we could move in. I had great experience working with Hill Electric to get the estimate and had received call backs within a couple of hours each time I had a question about what our job needed and when they could do the work. Hill Electric had great reviews and the lowest $ estimate. Ultimately, we decided to go with another company because they were also highly rated and they could start and finish our job sooner.

It was a basic repair. I got upset because it was 4 plugs and they had a job to do before they came to our house. They needed two electricians to do the other job, so two electricians came to do 4 GFI plugs and they charged us for two electricians. They double charged us even when we didn't need two electricians. It was not ethical. They could have said that we don't need two electricians.
Description of Work: We used Hill Electric to convert 4 plugs into GFI's because of an appliance, which needed GFI protector in July of 2008.

By the time I called Hill Electric for a problem with a dimmer switch I didn't want to tackle myself but thought could be dangerous to ignore, I had a short list of other electrical annoyances. When Bernie showed up (right on time) he listened to all my "jobs" and asked really good questions for clarification. I didn't want to spend the whole time feeding him each project so I went through them all at once. He did a great job keeping track of all of them and the details for each. When the new switch place didn't sit flat against the wall, due to the construction of the wall, he finessed it so that it worked out really well. I think he also noted that since this kind of thing bothered me, that he took great care in how he threaded a new wire in the basement to create a longer chain of lights to work off of a switch. Or else, he is just really conscientious. :) Either way, it was a great experience, as much as staying home and waiting for a contractor can be. It is wonderful to have all these seemingly little things repaired that make a positive difference every day. Their rates are typical, the trip charge which is time from the last job (one direction only) is reasonable and the work was outstanding. Bernie is skilled, efficient,, creative, responsive and personable. I'll cal them again if need be.
Description of Work: Dimmer switch supplied and replaced, faulty under-cabinet light wiring tracked for flickering and repaired, replaced and connected porcelain bulb fixtures in basement to a switched circuit, removed broken recessed light trim (which we jointly decided that I could more easily replace myself at Home Depot).

I was selling the building and the buyer's inspection turned up some safety concerns in the electrical system. At issue were three Federal Pacific subpanels which were installed by the original builder some 60 years ago. Since then the breakers in those particular panels have been found to be defective because they sometimes don't "trip" when there is a short circuit. If that should happen, a fire could result. Also, the three bathrooms and kitchens still had original (non GFI) outlets, and the buyer wanted them replaced with GFI outlets which are required by current electrical code. I found the buyer's requests reasonable, so there was no argument over what needed to be done. However, time was of the essence, since the repairs needed to be completed before closing, which was scheduled two weeks later. My concerns were getting the work done properly, getting the work completed before the scheduled closing date, getting a fair price, and having the workmen show up on time, since I needed to take time away from work to let them into the building and supervise their presence. Hill Electric met and exceeded my expectations on all counts. My initial phone call was answered right away - I didn't have to leave a message on a machine and wait. An estimate was scheduled for the very next day, and the estimator showed up on time. He was familiar with the Federal Pacific subpanel problem, and promised to email an estimate the following Monday - three working days later. The email arrived right on time, and the estimate was well under the price I had expected. We scheduled the work for Wednesday - 2 days later. Again, the workmen showed up on time, finished a good two hours earlier than promised, and cleaned up after themselves nicely. They also took the time to test every electrical circuit in the building, and label all the breakers in the new circuit boxes. The total time from initial call to finished repair was 8 days. I was never in doubt about getting the repair completed before my closing date. Thank you Hill Electric!
