They did real good. They didn't leave any marks. The yard was fine and everything looked nice when they finished.

I have used them couple of times. They just seem to know and have good suggestions on what i needed. They come and do their work and clean up after themselves. They took the tree down and put some new dirt in and reseeded the area where the tree had been. They cleaned up where they put the block steps going down into the what I call it the gravel pit, but everything was cleaned up and made sure the steps were solid and braced, so they weren't going to be moving any.

Jerry, Nate, and crew did a great job on my flagstone patio. It is a two level New York Bluestone patio with stone outcroppings connecting the upper and lower levels. I had a plan for about how I was hoping the final patio would look - but Jerry, Nate, and crew took it to another level and really made it into something awesome. They were timely, professional, and on budget. I really appreciate the great work they did!

We hired this company because the came in with the low bid among several highly regarded landscape companies that we interviewed. In retrospect, we really regret this decision. First, the small stuff. After they seeded the lawn, wind blew much of the seeds into the mulch beds where the grass grew much better than it did where it was supposed to grow. It's been a couple of growing seasons and our grass hasn't fully taken off, largely because I suspect they didn't use enough top soil. It would have been nice if they had checked back with us to see whether the seeding was successful. Many of the shrubs that they planted have failed (some were replaced under warranty). Again, I suspect inadequate topsoil is at least partly to blame. The garden trellis that they built initially was flimsy, collapsed and had to be replaced. Finally, they built a large patio out of pavers. This project was a substantial investment on our part. Within a year, the patio collapsed into a hole. When they came out to look at the job, they claimed that there must be some issue below the surface and thus was not their fault. They then presented us with a large estimate for repairing the patio. Because we were dissatisfied with their services all around, we sought alternative bids for fixing the project and went with a different company to repair it. During the repairs, the entire patio had to be excavated and we found evidence that the base underneath the patio had not been properly compacted (as required by the paver company). Moreover, there is other evidence that the patio was improperly installed in terms of the sand that was put in between the pavers. That sand began washing away shortly after installation and will take several thousand dollars to redo. So, it was bad enough that our project had so many failures, some of which have involved very expensive fixes, but what was most disappointing was the unsympathetic and utterly unhelpful response on the part of Herman Landscaping.

A couple business days after calling Herman Landscape, Dan @ Herman came out to our house, looked over the situation and went over options for redoing the bushes on the south and west sides of our house. We talked about various pros and cons of various plant options and bark options and spacing. We also talked about placing the new plantings further away from the house and working around the gas line. In the end, we decided to go with the same bushes that were originally planted because they were very resistant to winter sun damage and the only thing we didn't like about the old bushes was how big they got after a few decades. Dan went back to his office to draw up a landscape plan. He left us with a McKay Nursery catalogue in case we had any second thoughts and wanted to substitute a different bush for some reason. About a week or so later, the landscape plan and cost proposal arrived in the mail. The landscape plan included color pictures of the bushes we selected embedded in it. Everything looked like we expected and the cost estimate seemed fair for the work to be done and equipment needed and plants & materials selected. We called Dan to talk about scheduling our project and agreed on a target week (subject to rain delays). Dan called us to firm-up the actual start day a couple days in advance. Eric and 3 others showed up on the agreed Wednesday to do the project. We reviewed with Eric what was going to be done and looked at the location of the gas line and other utilities. Assisted with a Bobcat, the crew carefully removed old bushes planted too close to the house and carefully removed the huge junipers planted above the gas line. They removed some of the remaining roots by hand to make room for planting the new bushes. Dan stopped by to see how things were going and marked with spray paint the boundaries of the new beds and end/corner planting locations to make sure everyone was in agreement. The crew installed the new bushes, installed the edging, re-graded the planting area where needed, placed the bags of cedar bark, repaired & seeded the lawn area, watered the new bushes and hauled off a couple truck loads of sawed up old bushes. The project took less than a full day. We were very pleased with the work on this project. There were no surprises, everything went smoothly. All the people involved were knowledgeable about the work and the plants, approachable and easy to talk with. Herman Landscape did a brick patio project for us several years ago and we were very happy with their work on that project so we wanted them to do this project. We would not hesitate to use Herman Landscape again for whatever our next landscape project turns out to be.

I received an estimate for some landscape work. We were only half sure what we wanted done - removal of the old landscape - and were less sure what to do to replace it. The employee, Dan, asked the important questions to get me thinking about what we wanted done, but did so in a way that was off-putting. He did not offer friendly suggestions as much as he implied disbelief that we did not have better plans what to have done. The estimate I received was very high, and when I called Dan to discuss, he again did not have a good customer-service attitude, but was somewhat unpleasant and eventually told me he would not waste any time revising our estimate because it would be way higher than everyone else because I live on the East side of Madison. It would have been nice had they just told me up front that they do not serve the East side. What is also odd is I received a quote from another landscaper, also located on the West side of Madison like Herman, and their quote was significantly lower than Herman's.

A very nice woman at Herman informed me that they do not work on the East Side of Madison. They are located on the West Side and only do work on that end of town. The woman I spoke to was very upfront with me about the added time costs that would be involved to come to the East Side, which I appreciated. So, a heads-up: if you're east of Madison or on the East Side, save yourself a phone call.

We had built a new house and Barnes was the builder's landscaper. They came and built many retaining walls and walls by the house. They were horrible! Big holes between the rocks, landscaper felt sticking out, uneven walls, etc. We fired them and called Herman in. They were very busy as it was peak season for landscapers at the time. Besides the rock walls, we also needed the yard seeded. We were also having a driveway put in and they worked with that company (Bartelt, which is also a great company) to cooridinate how it was done. They had a crew that does the seeding and laying of the straw mats. They did a beautiful job. They used a machine to level and tamp down the topsoil so the seed would grow easier and quicker. The yard came in beautifully. We also had them come and replace and rework almost every wall that Barnes had put in so poorly. We met with them several times and talked and planned what they would do. (Unlike Barnes) They used some of the rock that was there and brought in some new. Again, they brought in their crew that only does rock walls. It was an amazing experience to see professionals at work. The outcome was better than we had even hoped. We are beyond happy with the results. They had given us an estimate and it came in less! I would highly recommend this company for any landscaping projects. I found them on this site. They were the first company listed with over 50 positive reviews. We are just another happy customer of this company. Do not hesitate to use this company. They will not disappoint!

I stressed that I was looking for two things in this project: a sturdy/sound retaining wall combined with an aesthetically pleasing result. I am very happy with the work. Both objectives were met! Brian(?) and his assistant were pleasant and approachable. They took the time to discuss my concerns before work began, and assured me that my objectives of sturdiness and good appearance would be met. They stopped work when I came out to see how things were going an hour into the project and gave me an update, and checked to see if their work so far met my expectations (It did!). The work was completed in under three hours. I was pleasantly surprised when I subsequently received their bill and saw that their original price quote was adjusted to reflect the actual time/scope of project upon completion. Nice to see that kind of integrity in a service provider! I would definitely call on these guys in the future.

I contacted Herman's to schedule a free estimate. They did make the appointment but I felt that there was really no interest in my small project. Said he would send me estimate. After 2 week and I had not received my estimate I called. A few days later I received it in the mail and this is what it said... and quot;Jean, please note that we could only honor this price if we had other work in your neighborhood. Presently, we have nothing on the board on the Northeast side of Madison. Jeffand quot; Guess my job was too small. Too bad. Even If i had a huge job I would not call them or recommend.

They job went very well. They were very good from home design to instillation. The came back and tweak so things that did not meet our satisfaction. The owner was very good explain the visual in his head and putting it on the paper.

Herman's workied very hard to get all the work done in the time estimated on the very hottest day of the year! Good time management, appropriate number of staff the team lead was knowledgeable and organized. They did a very nice job.

They were very professional and timely as far as getting back to me. They were very creative in their solutions to the problems that I was looking to have solved. They came in at below the cost estimate that they gave. My overall experience with them was very good. With regard to price, I was happy with the price. There was really nothing that I was upset about. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

They did a great job from design to finish, including repair to lawn and other landscape features that were disturbed during the installation. We have received many complements on the finished product. The price was high, but not out of line with other estimates.

We worked closely with Drew Kibbe to plan the installation. This was our third landscaping project with him. An estimate was given, and we were put on the schedule. The workmen came as promised, did the project in a professional manner, and cleaned up the area thoroughly. The job was completed that day, and we were very pleased with the end result.

I reached out to Herman Landscape service to inquire about adding a retaining wall, and maintenance on 2 existing ones and received no response at all.

Anytime I would try to talk to them they would put me through to Jeff and he was impossible to talk to. He sounded like he didn't have time. When I talked to Julie she was pleasant but she couldn't make decisions. Just quite a few delays and they just could never show up when they said they were going to. They had good grades but they were not very responsive with me.

Came out and very friendly and assessed project. Got back with estimate and a few days that was lowest for the most work. Divided project up because of ground conditions. did excellent job and extremely reasonable when additions made to job when already in process. Some delay in starting job as was very busy but he had forewarned about this.
