I was sent to them when my ususal garage was overbooked. They wanted a $300 authorization to do anything. I said I thought it needeed a new thermostat (which, as it happens, it did) but the mechanic argued fairly aggressively that they needed to DIAGNOSE the r problem before they would do anything. $177 worth of diagnosis later, they said the blower motor was faulty and the fix would be $975 total. Without changing the thermostat. They did this, drove it, siad it wasn't warming up and needed a thermostat Which I authorized, total became $1050. I didn't get the presumed faulty parts back, nor did the mechanic go over the bill with me. I think I was overcharged and bought Christmas presents for the garage. Maybe my experience is atypical, but I won't be going back.
Description of Work: Diadnosed and replaced faulty heater blower. Replaced thermostat.

See above. They took their time to try to diagnose the one-time starting problem I had experienced.
Description of Work: Had difficulty starting the car. Genin's did extensive diagnostics to determine the problem. Nothing obvious was found and no starting issues since. They also discovered slow leaks in 3 of my tires and repaired them. They have always been responsive, courteous and efficient.

All employees are very competent, and polite, and very skilled. They get the work done when they say they will, and call me if anything else is found that I might want to discuss. They have done my auto service for years, across several vehicles. Top notch!! I'd never go to anyone else.
Description of Work: Change oil, lubricate, install new windshield wipers, check all systems and add fluids, air, etc. asneeded

Wonderful - as usual. Stopped in to make appointment, and talked to Randy about any problems with car. Dropped car off and went to Starbuck's (right next door) to wait. Randy called me when ready. When I picked car up, Randy talked to me about my car. For more major repairs, I stop or call to make appointment. Randy talks to me about the problem and work to be done, and gives me keys to free loaner car. Later in day I get a call to come pick up the car at my convenience. I happily pay because I know car will be actually fixed! (I have had too many experiences with other service stations to take that for granted)
Description of Work: I've been taking my car to Genin's exclusively for the last four years. They are great! Since I have a 10 year old car, major things have come up that needed repair. This time it was something small - I had a slow, annoying leak in one front tire, the oil needed changing, and car needed to be checked over. I have learned from experience that taking my car to Genin's means whatever is wrong will get fixed the first time. This time it took cleaning the tire rim and resealing the tire to fix the slow leak - and it was completely fixed. Over the years they have done all the major work on my car, and it was perfectly done and right on time. They are very helpful with honest advice about what to fix now, and what can wait for awhile. They call you promptly with analysis and estimate before they go ahead and do the work. And you get a FREE loaner car for the day for major repairs. What more can you ask for?? They are even open on Saturdays to do repairs. Randy is most often the mechanic who helps me. I am glad for the day my car started making a horrendous noise and I was near Genin's - that's how I found them. I noticed that the two other negative reviews were left by people who just stopped in once - I think their reviews are more reactions to the fact that their cars needed repair and they were not happy at that moment in their lives - they are not fair assessments of Genin's service.

On May 2, 2011 I thought I needed the muffler on my Toyota Highlander (2002) repaired and the mechanics at Genin's found something minor was causing the problem and repaired it (saving me the cost of replacing my muffler) and changed my oil and replaced one of my headlight and fog light bulbs. Since Genin's is AAA approved and I am a member of AAA, they also provided a general assessment of additional work that may be needed such as a coolant flush, rear pinion seal and drain and fill both differentials. Since I was going to Chicago, I had the recommended auto service performed at a Toyota dealership where I had been taking my SUV. After I picked up my SUV, I noticed a and quot;road noiseand quot;. I took my SUV to Genin's on 6/21/2011 and asked if they could identify what was causing the noise (I thought it was a result of the work done at Toyota's service dept) and assess if it would be safe to drive my SUV back to Chicago. Randy test drove my SUV and then assessed where the noise was coming from. He isolated the noise to the rear differential. He noticed that the flange and seal plate appeared to be warped or the pinion bearing may be damaged. On June 23 rd, I took my car back to the Chicago Toyota Service dept. They examined by SUV and said the differential needed to be replaced and they wanted to charge me $3,300. They suggested that I had al leak in my rear differential that caused the damage and it needed to be replaced. They argued that I was wrong to suggest that the problem was caused by a mistake by their mechanics. After many telephone calls, they indicated they could do the repair with a and quot;usedand quot; one for about $1650. I indicated that if there was a leak it was present before they did their work and that the noise developed after they worked on my vehicle. I insisted that my SUV was fine until it was worked on my their mechanics. I called Randy, top mechanic at Genins, and asked if he would be willing to speak to the Toyota Service Director and he said he would. Randy told the Toyota Service Director that there was adequate fluid in my differentials when he inspected my SUV just prior to my trip back to Chicago and told them what he assessed the problem to be. It took daily, multiple telephone calls and my insistence that the problem did not arise until after my SUV was worked on at the Toyota repair shop. While I am sure my perseverance and willingness to keep negotiating with the Toyota Service Director was very important, I believe Randy's willingness to back me up with his verbal and written assessment helped greatly. I also have to give credit to the Toyota Service Director for showing some flexibility in deciding that although it could not be proven that the problem stemmed from a mistake by their mechanics--they would correct the problem without any additional cost to me. It took from June 23 - June 29th to get this situation resolved. I would highly recommend Genin's Auto Service for their quality work and excellent mechanics.
Description of Work: On 5/2/2011 I brought my SUV in for a muffler replacement. Genin's mechanics found it was a minor problem and I did not need a replacement. I had my oil changed and bulbs for a headlight and fog light replaced. The service was very good. Since Genin's is AAA approved and I am an AAA member they assessed my SUV and provided recommendations that should also get attention ("coolant flush, rear pinion seal, and drain and fill both differentials"). I had the recommended work done by a Chicago Toyota Service department while I was in Chicago. On 6/21/2011, I brought my SUV in because of a loud "road noise". Randy test drove and then identified the noise was coming from the SUV's rear differential. He recommended I return to the Toyota Service and have them inspect the SUV since the noise developed after the Toyota mechanics had worked on my SUV. I did bring my SUV back to the Toyota Service Dept. From 6/23 unitl 6/29, I was in daily (multiple times a day) contact with the Toyota Service Manager and/or Director insisting that the problem was a result of a faulty repair. I finally was able to get the Service Director to call Randy (mechanic at Genin's) to verify that my SUV had been serviced by them prior to my trip to Chicago and there was no problem or "road noise" at that time. I believe that my persistence, Randy's willingness to provide a verbal and written report of my SUV's status as Genin's assessed it, and eventually--the willingness of the Toyota Director to be flexible ---resulted in the Toyota Service Dept replacing the differential of my SUV at no additional financial cost to me.

My car had to be towed due to mechnical problems and the tow truck driver recommended this Genin's because it was nearby and he said they were a good place. The next day Genin's was able to work on my car for me. I told them what happened, the mechanic said he had an idea what was wrong and would call me back when he knew for sure. One hour later he told me what was wrong and gave me an estimate of $1075 and he said I had a lot of other things which should be repaired as well. I knew this was high because I have a friend who is a mechanic who gave me an estimate but I didn't have much of a choice because I couldn't drive it anywhere else. So I told them to go ahead with the work, just the brake repairs. They called me back at 1:30 when it was finished and said it was $1050. When I picked it up I asked for a list of all the other repairs I needed, along with prices. The list is as follows: trans flush: $155, air filter $29.99, wiper blades: $35.98, spark plugs: $90.05, ignition wires: $206.00, timing belt kit with waterpump: $755. The car runs fine now and they did a good job on the repairs but their prices are very high and they recommended services which I feel are unnecessary. My friend, the mechanic, took a look at the car when everything was finished and said the air filter and wiperblades were fine and other things need to be done, but they're not critical. I will find a different place for the next repairs.
Description of Work: Front brake repairs: 2 front brake pads ($117.99), 2 front brake calipers ($121.99 each), 2 front brake roters ($52.99 each), 2 front brake hoses ($68.99 each), 1 pint brake fluid ($20.97) total with labor: $1050.

I have been using their services for the last four to five years. I like that they are very friendly. They know my truck very well. I am able to call and talk to the men that have done the work on my truck. They are good about giving advice to me about what to do with it when things are wrong. They have been very honest with me.
Description of Work: We took our truck into the shop to have it inspected because we were getting ready to take it on a trip.
