An absolute rip off. These guys recently “repaired” 3 small (less than 1 square foot each) scuffs in the floor of the home we just moved out of (1505 National Ave., Madison Wisconsin 53716) They are incompetent and unable to fix the repair so they worked in tandem with my ex-landlord to rip me off to the tune of $800. That is, they are inept and cannot repair a small scuff so worked with my landlord to defraud us and charged to re-finish the entire floor. We’ve spoken with 7 different floor contractors whose quotes ranged from $30 to $150 for the repair. Not Fancy Floors, if there’s an opportunity to rip someone off, they jump on it. We are naming them in a lawsuit against our landlord. If you’re looking to get ripped off, or rip a tenant these are your guys. If you want anything resembling quality, stay as far away from Fancy Floors as possible.

I hired Fancy Floors (FF) because Chokri appeared the most knowledgeable about working with older floors, and the most interested in the large-scale project we were offering. He also seemed the most realistic about the project and expressed confidence that the staircase would not need to be replaced, and if it did, he had experience in such projects. Once FF started working, the sanding & finishing took 2X the amount of time originally quoted, and they used a different quality level of finish than originally agreed. The staircase took months, and we were very disappointed when the floor began to show damage from their work. (Plaster ground into the newly finished floors, scratches on the newly installed stairwell & stairs. As I said, the house was empty at the time, but they would not claim responsibility.) The subs also took months to pick up their waste materials, and I had to call Fancy Floors numerous times to complete ''little'' projects like installing transitions.
Description of Work: The original quote was to sand, stain & finish approximately 2500 square feet of oak floors with one coat of stain and a BOMA KEMI (Swedish) finish. The quote included replacing some damaged floorboards, threshold transitions, ''shoe'' in several areas where carpeting had been removed. After the sanding & finishing was done, the damaged area was NOT replaced and we were told we had to completely reconstruct the stairway. In addition, the job took three times longer than originally predicted. Fancy Floors (FF) hired subcontractors to do rebuild the stairway & replace plaster. The plasterer spread plaster throughout the house, including the kitchen sink. He mixed plaster on the drop cloths of our professional painter, which created tensions. Several scratches appeared on the floor and the stairs during the rebuild, but no one claimed responsibility. The house was empty at the time except for FF & its subcontracts & the professional painter. FF repaired after several phone calls.
