I receive their catalogue regularly through the mail. In the past I have bought some specialty items for my pool with no problems. I received their latest catalogue just as I decided to change my pool to a salt water pool which means I needed to invest in a chlorine generator. I was excited to see that the banner promotional headline on their catalogue was ‘10% off every price’ in the catalogue. A generator is around $1000 so I was happy to save 10%. There was a further discount of $75 on what the sales agent said was their best selling generator. I placed the order and then the agent said that there was no 10% discount on the item. Further I learned that there were several items in the catalogue that were not part of the “10% off every price” sale. During the conversation with the “manager” when I tried to explain that in my opinion the sale was deceptive, she told me that “I was being stupid”. I finally got the Director of Operations on the phone. He saw nothing wrong with the ad since the fine print said restrictions apply (the correct word should have been ‘exceptions’ not ‘restrictions’ if they wanted to exempt some items from the ‘10 off every price’ sale). Further he said he would fire anyone who called me stupid. When I told him the name of the woman who said it he changed his position, now he did not believe me when I said his manager said I ‘was being stupid’.
