Canopy Tree Care

Following a bad storm in June, we had some damage to a large silver maple in our back yard. We called multiple arborist services in the area, and the only place that actually answered the phone was Canopy Tree Care. Despite how busy all tree services were at that point, Josh was out to check out our damaged tree within a day. He offered suggestions for the short term, explaining very candidly that he had other more urgent jobs, completely understandably - someone with a tree branch through their house is definitely more urgent than the minor damage on our maple! So we set a time for him to come back and give us a quote on both the storm-damaged maple and on trimming three somewhat overgrown river birches in the front yard. The birches were growing closer to an overhead electrical wire, plus they were just really shaggy and unkempt-looking. Josh was very receptive to my preference for keeping the birch branches as long as possible without actually being in the way. Josh provided the quote by email after I reminded him of it (he has been busy this summer). The first date we set was too rainy/stormy to do the work. The second date we set also had to be postponed because of a more urgent job (someone whose home was in danger due to a fallen branch). Both postponements were promptly and clearly communicated on the morning of the day when we had planned the work to be done. Third time was the charm, though, and Josh showed up with his crew and equipment promptly first thing in the morning. They did an absolutely incredible job! They didn't go tearing right into cutting stuff up; they started out by discussing together what was needed and how to trim effectively in a way that would be beneficial to the trees as well as producing the most aesthetically pleasing result. They spent several hours working on the birches first, and the difference was absolutely incredible - they're glorious and beautiful now! Josh also thoughtfully trimmed the branches over where my spouse parks his car a little higher, which my spouse appreciates very much. The silver maple went a little faster, but the same care and attention to both the tree's health and to its appearance were brought to that as well. The crew did a fantastic job of cleaning up as well, removing and grinding up all the branches they took down. They even found the little pile of branches we had waiting for the next city brush pickup and cleared that out as well! Josh's evident love and appreciation for healthy, well-maintained trees was evident throughout the process. We are very, very happy with the result, and we will definitely contact Canopy Tree Service the next time we need help with our trees.

He removed four trees from my yard. I did not give him permission to remove two of the trees. He was unwilling to negotiate compensation for the two trees he took down without permission. We were eventually able to settle the matter. I wouldn't recommend this tree service.

They did not give advance notice of when they would be there. We were on our way home but they started the job without us. Had them go back and trim one more branch and they charged another $100.00. Called this year and they never returned the call. Went with another service.

Canopy was the lowest bidder. They arrived on time, and did a professional job.

Excellent job. The crew was fast, careful of surrounding plants, and used proper safety gear, and the bid was slightly lower than the 2 other companies that offered estimates..

They did a great job and were wonderful with cleaning everything up. I was very impressed and would definitely contract with them again.

I have to say it was perfect. I received four bids. Ryan Eggers was the first to look at the tree to bid. (All of the services were contacted on the same day with a request for a bid.) He printed his bid on the spot and put it in an envelope and in the mailbox (maybe inside front door, can't recall.) The tree was not diseased but it had been planted directly on the power grid and was getting too big for my small yard, as well. I was looking for the low bid in this case because it was a matter of simple removal without damage to the house and not a case where judgement was needed to shape a tree, etc. though I am sure Ryan would do an excellent job in any case. Ryan is a fully insured, certified arborist and provides many other tree services as well as removal. His was the lowest bid, but not by an extreme amount. However,he also discounts services 5% for Angies List members, so there was an additional savings I called to inform him that I was accepting his bid and he said it looked like his schedule would permit removal sometime the first week of November. He called yesterday to leave a message that he could come today "around noon" and to please make sure that the driveway was free and clear for truck access. I called last night and left a message that I had received his and would make sure the drive was clear. Ryan and the Canopy crew arrived at about 11:50 and set up. A few minutes after noon they started work. The tree was removed by about 12:40. The stump was not ground down at my request because it was directly above the power line. I asked that Ryan please leave 3 pieces of the trunk cut in random, varying lengths between 12" - 24" so that I could use them in the back for decorative plant stands or something. He said that would not be a problem. Everything was cleaned up and the crew departed about an hour after they had arrived. In all, first to last, this was an excellent experience for a homeowner.

They carefully removed a tree limb that had fallen onto our neighbor's shed, which--thanks to Mother Nature and Canopy's diligence--did no damage to the shed. They then removed the dead tree and ground out the stump. They cut down quite a bit of the dead tree into firewood for us. They also consulted on what to replace the dead tree with so we didn't lose shade or green, and advised us on an elm tree. Clean up was thorough despite the size of the job. I highly recommend Canopy.

Canopy arranged a date for the tree removal, showed up with a crew of 6-8 men and some equipment, and carefully removed the tree. There was no damage to surrounding buildings. Ryan is pleasant to deal with and is very trustworthy.

The removal of the large trees opened up the back yard and now gives us more usable space. The job went well and was completed quickly and professionally. His crew were surprising to watch as they shimmied up trees and calculated beforehand where to drop limbs and trees. Well done, again! A critical part to all this was Ryan's prompt to response to requests for quotes and doing the job right. This is what keeps me coming back to his company over the years.

I was not present when the work was done, but the results were perfect. They had done another job for us a few years ago, and we were also happy with that. They showed up in both cases within the time frame specified. The owner and his help were very courteous and knowledgeable.

Did a fine job. Pleasant, polite, reliable. This is not our 1st time using Canopy.

We lost 12 - 15 arbor vitae trees in our back yard following a very wet 20 inch snow storm and a lot of wind. Ryan came to check the damage and give us an estimate quickly. Once our insurance approved the claim, Ryan and crew removed all trees and ground the stumps. He was able to take the trees across my neighbors yard, due to terrain in mine. His crew was very professional and careful to not cause any damage. I recommend Ryan without reservation!!

We use Ryan just about every year to trim one of the large trees in our yard. Last year he took a large one down for us. When I call Ryan to request an estimate and say, for example, "It's the tree near the back patio," he remembers from years past which tree I'm talking about. That's someone who knows trees! They are always professional and prompt, and I trust Ryan's judgment. I never consider hiring anyone else. Ryan is our "tree guy."

They seem to know the business well. However, they are not very reliable. It took forever for it to happen. I just didn't know when they were coming. I really never felt like I knew what was going on; if they were coming or not. They did a good job. The clean up was good. The work they did was good. I would probably look at other companies before I call them out again.

They are always prompt with the quote process and do an ok job.

Shows up when they he says he will be there for an estimate - which is written. Gives an approximate time when they will come and calls to confirm that the exact time will work for you. Shows up with his crew and gets the job done.

Ryan came by and gave me an estimate for the work the same day. He clearly explained what was needed with the large trees and helpfully answered questions I had about other trees in my yard. I found Ryan to be very knowledgeable about the trees and shrubs in our yard. We arranged for him to come the following week and to call the day before. He arrived with his crew and a wood chipper. His crew cleared out toys and other items below the trees to be pruned and got to work. They removed a great deal of dead wood and lower branches from the trees. Prior to pruning, the trees were dense and crowded, now they quite graceful. The trees that were removed were cut down safely and their trunks were cut flush to the ground. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the felled trees. The resulting wood was mulched and I asked them to leave it on our driveway to use in our yard. We were very happy with the work and will call them again (although Ryan assured me that the pruned trees would be fine for several years.)
