BADGER CHIMNEY

Peter did a great job! It's the best chimney on the block! All the neighbors are envious on how nice it looks. Peter gave us a choice of 6 different bricks before he started and he matched the mortar color with that of the house. The flashing also is perfect. Ditto the top cap. He cleaned up the job site well and cleaned all our gutters too! Price was right too. The only problem was that his communication needs some work. He got sick in the late winter/early spring and didn't let me know that he wouldn't be able to complete in the agreed time frame. Wasn't a problem for me but would have been better to just email or call and let me know. His work was also delayed by our wet Spring we had this year. Again communication with me could have been better. But, bottom line is he does great work. I would recommend him.

It was difficult to get a hold of Peter to set up an appt. I called and we talked on the phone and he was going to return my call when he stopped driving to setup a time. He didn't call back, so I called a week later and asked if he could set an appt. On the phone he asked if I bought the AL coupon, I stated no, that I wanted to see the schedule first. Peter said not to buy the coupon as he could save me money from the online deal. We was scheduled to come at 12pm on a set day and he had a job prior that ran late. He cancelled the appt in ample time so that I could rearrange for another date for the cleaning. When he arrived at 730 promptly, he cleaned one fireplace and went to the roof. He said that my flu cover wasn't secure and that he could replace for $150. I declined as it was new and it hadn't blown off for the past 1.5yrs since buying the home. He cleaned one chimney and was very clean, he said there was no damage and we could start using it. He also said he looked at the basement chimney and it was fine, although he didn't clean or really do anything with it. While paying, he wrote down $245 and the Angie's list coupon was for $184. I told him our prior convo and he was a little mad that Angie's list hadn't changed it. But I didn't feel I should pay the higher rate, so we decided to split the difference at $205. A week later the flue cap blew off the house and it had never blown off before, so now we have to reattach and the screws weren't secured after Peter left. So we will have to get on the roof and reattach. I would rehire Peter again, but I will ask for costs up front. Peter is very shy and doesn't talk much. So it was hard to communicate on details and cost. After he left, he left a vm on my phone about things to remember when lighting a fire, this couldn't been addressed in person face to face. But am thankful he called at all.

Peter did a thorough job of both cleaning and inspecting the fireplace and chimney. He seemed like a genuine and knowledgeable individual who was eager to support his customers. He even cleaned out some of my gutters while on my roof examining my chimney! He called ahead and arrived on time. He was also very clean during the whole process and picked up anything which fell to the floor. Peter explained items with the fireplace and recommended potential options for improvements. The one downfall was the initial communication of organizing the appointment. It was slightly difficult in coordinating a phone conversation to confirm items. I have to say that he was the best in responding to my calls as other local companies didn't even bother to call me back or didn't do so until a much later date.

After purchasing AL deal I waited a couple days to see if I would get a call. I didn't. So I called and left a voicemail. No response. A week later I left another voicemail, and sent an email. I recieved a call back on the same day and scheduled the work to be done the following Monday. I took the day off work since I had other errands to do and the appointment was for 11 to 1pm. At 12pm the day of the appointment I called to see if I had maybe gotten the time wrong since I had been on a cell phone when we made the appointment and the connection wasn't really clear when we talked originally. No one answered so I left a voice mail. At 1:30pm I called and left the second voice mail. At about 4:00pm I recieved a call from Peter who apologized profusely for the mix-up. It turned out it was he who had the calendar snafu. He was extremely apologetic which I appreciate. We made a new appointment for the following week. This time I asked him to give me a call about 30 minutes before his expected arrival and I would meet him at the my house rather than take another complete day off of work. On that day he did indeed call as planned and I met him at the house. He arrived on time. I showed him the two fireplaces which have two separate flus but share a brick chimney. He took his time inspecting the chimney, flus and fireplaces. He pointed out how the flashing around the chimney exterior was allowing water run off from the roof and down the brick which eventually will damage it. He offerred up a simple and inexpensive remedy which I OK'd. He then got busy with the cleaning part of the work. He did a great job and even cleaned the glass on the fireplace doors which I didn't think was possible. He made them look like new! There was no dust or mess left. He did a great job protecting the areas around the fireplaces and vacuuming up any dust that escpaped the plastic barrier he used during the cleaning. This was the most thorough cleaning that these fireplaces have gotten since I've owned the house. I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with the work Peter did. If it wasn't for the lack of communication at the beginning and the missed first appointment it would be A's across the board! I would definitely recommend and plan on hiring Badger Chimney in the future.

Peter did amazing work. He's extremely knowledgeable and truly cares about his profession. He was extremely neat, we didn't even know he was here afterward as he put down protective sheets all around both our fireplaces. He installed new clean-out doors and capped the flu from our old furnace pipe, cleaned out the fireboxes and rainshelves, as well as inspected the chimneys. I look forward to working with Peter again when we're ready to add a gas fireplace insert.

Fine. A thorough cleaning was done, without any ash/dust left on the hearth or carpet. Arrived about 40 minutes late but we had a late afternoon appointment so understandable.

Never heard from Badger Chimney. I contacted them by email and left telephone messages.

Pour communication when trying to set up appointment. Once appointment was set up, service tech failed to show up, and no call was made to notify us.

Arrived around 9:50 am within the 8a-10a indicated arrival timeframe

When he did the work for us, it was not just the fireplace but the fireplace insert. He was very, very good at it. There's a lot of different brands of them and he was very familiar with the brand. You should put it all back together the right way. If you do it wrong, it rattles. When he left, it didn't rattle. We plan to use them yearly.

Inspected chimney and came back later to install a cap without extra charge.

Badger Chimney NEVER responded to 6 email, telephone contacts for me over a 10-day period. My last email to them got a response that they would contact me by close of business today, 9-8-15, but that didn' occur. I don't know the quality of work, materials since I never received any response from them.

He was a no-call/no-show. I called 2 hours after our scheduled appointment and cancelled the service.

Excellent service reliable informative

Done well taking his time to get it right (it had been some time since the chimney had been cleaned). I was bothered somewhat by his trying to sell other services and trying to up-sell me. For example he quoted a price on a stainless steel chimney cover - I had to ask what a regular metal one would cost.

Chimney sweep: He did an excellent job containing the debris to the fireplace. The rest of my family room remained spotless. He was timely and very pleasant to work with. Chimney Inspection: I definitely trusted Pete, he was honest with his pricing estimates and was familiar with current regulations. In his estimate he called out areas of uncertainty. For example, he could not tell if the entire clay tile liner would need to be replaced until he demolished the chimney to the roof. He noted two estimates - one if the entire liner would be replaced with an insulated hybrid liner and one without this liner. Pete did a great job of explaining the details of what he would need to do except sometime it was difficult to understand what he was saying. The biggest obstacle we ran into was that I wanted to have a real, wood-burning fire, which I told Pete during the inspection. It wasn't until after the repairs were made that he brought up a concern he had with the clearance between the masonry in my basement and the wood floor supports. He suggested that it would be safer for me to have a gas-burning fireplace. I told him I was not interested in a gas-fireplace and wish that he would have vocalized his concern during the inspection. Pete was very receptive to this feedback and made every effort to accommodate my dream of having a wood-burning fire. He threw in a thermal shield and offered to add additional layers of insulated paint on the base of the firebox. Chimney Repair: By far the best part of working with Pete was his willingness to accommodate my schedule. He worked weekends and even was willing to meet me for an appointment early weekday mornings before I went into work. As soon as we schedule the repair, Pete obtained a permit and posted it on my front door. He then built structurally sound scaffolding around my front porch, in a way that did not inconvenience me in the slightest. The condition of my chimney turned out to be even worse than Pete had anticipated and he worked long hours to finish in the time frame that he had quoted me AND he stuck to the initial estimate although I have to imagine that this estimate was generous. Summary of Strengths of Badger Chimney: -Pricing was transparent - when he mentioned a thermal shield, or a insulated, hybrid liner, he was able to show me my options in a catalog, complete with pricing information -Personal touch - Everything from Pete's willingness to work at all hours, 7 day a week to the honest conversations we had made the experience a pleasant one -Good, quality work

Offered to fix something for no extra cost that was necessary for the project. It had to do with how the hot water connection was coming in to the boiler system at the wrong place in the chimney in the basement. This had just been done by the heating people who put in the boiler. The quote was much better than others, and the work and responsiveness was excellent. Good cleanup after the job was done.

Cleaned and inspected fireplace and chimney. Did not arrive during designated 2 hour window and didn't call until 2 hour period was over. Did not apologize but did come a couple of hours later and did the work. Cleaned up well after done and fireplace looks fine. It bugs me when service providers don't treat my time as valuable.

Badger Chimney was great. Peter was on time, clean, polite, efficient and very well priced. I will definitely call him next year and recommend him to my friends.
