Description of Work: Warranty service. Their repair process is the most customer unfriendly I have ever seen. The ice maker on our one year old Electrolux broke for the third time in 18 months. First, you have to call for an appointment--they never come the same day. They call the day before and tell you when they'll come--no flexibility. Then, they finally came and they didn't have the part so it had to be ordered. Two weeks later, the part arrives, then it's another two day appointment cycle. They came, replaced the part and left. Still no ice. We call and go through the appointment cycle again. They come out, check the ice maker, and tell us they apparently replaced the wrong part. They don't have the part, so it has to be ordered. Now, they're theoretically coming back Friday to fix it. It has been almost a month since the process started. The repair guys are nice, but the process stinks, and American TV doesn't seem to care. I've never seen a company with lower customer service standards, unless you count United Airlines. We bought the refrigerator at American ($3,000!) and they don't care that it breaks all the time. Their response? "call Electrolux.". I'm not a happy customer. I miss Kennedy Hahn.

American's scheduling process is ridiculous. When you call for service, they give you a date they can come out. Then an automated call comes to you at 5 p.m. the day prior and you are assigned a 3-hour window. If that doesn't work for you, you start back at square one. It wasn't until I had to reschedule the second visit that I learned that I had the option of leaving a key or the garage door code for their "fully insured and bonded" techs. Wish they'd told me that earlier.
Description of Work: Repaired my Samsung front-loading washing machine, which was 3 mos. out of warranty. Water wasn't draining from the tub. The problem was misdiagnosed on the first call. But they didn't charge for the first visit, and did the work very well the second time. I think they are the only repair source for this brand of washer in my area, so I have to use them again.

Prior to purchasing our dining set we went to American just to look. We found the perfect set and Kris (West location) was incredibily helpful. My father works for American, so she looked up our "family pricing" which was excellent. We knew this was the set for us, but we needed to wait a few weeks before purchasing. We were unable to get back to the West location to purchase and actually got it from the East location. My husband just ran in and found someone right away to help him. The transaction was smooth and simple, he was done in 15 minutes. Actually the sale that was running at that time was about 2% LESS than the "family pricing". We set up delivery for the coming week. The delivery people were very nice. They did arrive early and on very little notice. You would think early would be good, but with kids I wasn't quite ready for them yet. The delivery went without incident and they noted the issue I had with one of the chairs (which will be replaced). Overall we are very pleased with our purchase.

I think that the job was competent. We had bought the appliance from them about 13-14 years ago and it was pretty old. It was the first repair we had on it. We called and they came within a few days. They diagnosed the problem and ordered the part, and then came back and installed the part and it has been fine since then. They have done a very good job and we have had no complaints. They are a pretty big, local company and have a bunch of locations in Wisconsin. We only went to them because of the fact that we had purchased the appliance there and we knew they would be willing to service it. We have purchased many, many things from them, and they sell furniture, appliances, cameras and TVs and everything else. We have purchased many things over the years and have always been very pleased. They are also a local company and so buying local helps. I think that they are very competitive. The previous time we had them out for repair was a manufacturing defect from Maytag and they had to a re-installation of the heating coil in a dishwasher and the manufacturer paid for that since it was covered. They contacted us and said that they had this recall and wanted to come and fix my appliance. They asked me when I was available and scheduled an appointment, and the guy came in and did all the work and it didn't cost us anything, and so they were very responsible too and we were very pleased with that as well. They are a good company.

The builder of our house said American was notorious for not bringing a water line to hook up the ice maker (they do this so they aren't liable for water damage if it is hooked up incorrectly) so we called and confirmed with American that they would be bringing a water line. Installation day came and they didn't bring a water line, so they had to come out another day and install that. Then our dishwasher started leaking, so they had to come out again to repair that. A couple days later we noticed water was leaking from our ceiling into our basement, we had to fight American to get them out to our house ASAP! Water had been leaking out of our dishwasher and under our brand new red oak floors, and they were totally ruined. American over tightened a nut and it cracked when they repaired our dishwasher. Dealing with American's Insurance company went smoothly. They did pay to have our brand new house fixed, but it was inconvenient and just a terrible mess. I will never do business with American TV and Appliance again, and I hope by writing this review you don't either!

Description of Work: They are not very well organized. 11/13/2010 ordered 6.0 CU FT COMPACT REF, white and hinged on left but it was not in-stock but would be available in early December Mid December call about my refrigerator to find it was not available. We agreed on a substitute. This was to be delivered 15 January 2011 but I was called the day of delivery and told that the door was damaged while changing hinging to the left. A new refrigerator ordered. This was delivered on 25 January 2011 but was black not white. It was left for our use and white refrigerator was ordered. This was delivered on 11 February, was white but was hinged on the wrong side. We are now waiting for a technician to come out to change the hinging.

When I stopped by to look at appliances I had a budget in mind. After seeing what I wanted and realizing how expensive this would be I figured I should check around. A week later I stopped back again and stated what my budget was and what I wanted. The sales person explained that if I could wait a few weeks for the "big sale", I would be able to afford what I was looking at. He never called me like he said he would, but when I saw the sale in the paper I purchased all my appliances and saved $1500.

I thought that Kris Hodgkins did a great job. He came to our house and looked where we wanted the tv put up. He was creative and did a good job hiding the cables and wires. He was willing to come to the house several times to take the unit down when we had some wall treatments put up around the tv. I did not have a really good opinion of the store before, but his good service has improved my opinion greatly and I am going there to look a new appliances.
Description of Work: We bought a large flat screen and had it installed above a fireplace. He also installed a Bose sound system and put it in a closet.

I have had nothing but problems with anything purchased from American TV. Poor customer service and general service overall. Many of other places to get the same product.
Description of Work: Purchased a Sterns and Foster mattress for over $1400 five years ago. It's sagging in the middle but since I had a 10 year warranty assumed it would be covered. I had to pay for a technician to come and look at it. He used a string and went from corner to corner. He didn't and said he couldn't keep the string tight (let it sag in the middle) then lightly put a tape measure on it and said sorry your not quite to 1 1/2 " yet. (which is the point that the warranty would cover. Have he used a straight edge it was well over 2" depression.

It took a few minutes to get across our refrigerator problem to an unresponsive and seemingly confused telephone contact and she promised us a visit the next day. The repairman arrived on the next day but an hour later than specified in the "time window" given us. After 15 minutes of reviewing the situation he told us that we'd need two new expensive parts to fix the water dispenser, that they'd have to be ordered, that it would take at least a couple of weeks, and that we'd have to pay for another service call to install them. We agreed that we'd call them if we wanted to proceed and decided to call another vendor (Kennedy Hahn - who had sold us the refrigerator). Their man arrived on time, found that all that was needed was a reset of the electronics (accomplished by unplugging and replugging the unit) and charged us $60+. A couple of weeks later American called us at 7:45 in the morning and said they were sending someone out to fix our washing machine. We, of course, declined.
Description of Work: Came in to diagnose why the water dispenser on our GE refrigerator had stopped working.

This was without a doubt the worst customer service experience I've ever had. The couch arrived, the delivery people got it stuck in my door frame, and then told me there was a 20 % restocking fee if they had to return it. They did not tell me that the couch was stuck, or that they had put a dent in my wall. The restocking fee was a lie. After they left, it took my fiance and I thirty minutes to remove the couch. I called American, explained the situation, and they invited me in to pick out a new couch. Two days later, they delivered the exact same couch that got stuck the first time. They did not take back the old couch, which had been blocking the hallway. I called, came in, and settled things. The right couch was delivered. It then took a month, several unreturned phone calls, unanswered letters, and emails, before I finally got ahold of someone high up enough to listen to the problem & refund the cost of delivery and fix the walls in the rental property.
