Description of Work: I have a house that was built in 1923 and there hasn't been any work done in 12 years. They were really great. They scraped and re-painted, fixed some leaks in the roof and repaired an exhaust fan that was condensing moisture in my attic. They are a 2 man crew and each of them have different areas of expertise, so they were able to draw from their own knowledge to come up with the best ways to fix things. I took a lock apart to re-key it and I had trouble getting it back in and they fixed it very quickly. They are very honest and they made suggestions of ways to fix certain things that would help to save money, rather than using more money. I used to be the repair person for that house and I am very picky. They were very meticulous to make sure the painting was done well with no marks. They also repaired the plaster where there was damage from the leaks. I would highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Went above and beyond what most places would do. Came on a Sunday on the hottest day of the year to do an air conditioner check-up. He found that a capacitor was blown. He took the time to first explain the problem. Then he fixed without charging anything additional, except for the part. I would definitely call him again.

Description of Work: They put a garbage disposal in for me. I didn't notice at the time, but a hunk of the cost ($55) was for travel time=23 minutes and ~8 miles. At 50¢ per mile (rough mileage for university, including wear and tear of vehicle), they would have had to travel 110 miles to rack up their travel cost. They did not inform me of the travel costs. I don't think that's at all justifiable. So I won't use them again. Otherwise, they did a good, quick job.

Description of Work: Adam and Pat painted our living room, re-worked the crown molding in the living room and foyer, repaired and painted our plaster ceiling, and installed the frame around our fireplace. No complaints -- they did and excellent job and I would certainly use them again!

Description of Work: Adam hung roller shades in the bedroom and rehung a shelf in the kitchen

Description of Work: Adam replaced a bathroom exhaust fan. The old fan was ancient and the opening for it was too small and there were a couple of other complications. Adam was great with problem-solving and finished the job without a problem. It looks and works great, and his clean-up was thorough.

Description of Work: did drywall work on 3 areas of my house - 2 on the ceiling and one on a wall. While waiting for the plaster of paris to dry, they cleaned the ice off my steps and driveway, and swept out the garage !! They said they wanted to keep busy while they were waiting for the plaster to dry. They called me to tell me they were running about 20 minutes late because of the icey roads.

Description of Work: Adam and his associates installed a beautiful new deck in a difficult situation, where they had to work around an oak tree, bird feeding stations, and existing wooden structures already in place. The old deck was difficult to remove and they had to work in less-than-ideal weather. Access to the deck was also difficult, and they were resourceful in finding a way to get the materials to the deck area of this old house.

Description of Work: Adam Shirley is the Handyman from Heaven. He can and will do anything. We asked him to do things far below his skill level -- move a huge woodpile, rake leaves from a big yard, re-hang a shed door (he had to cut it to fit, then go to hardware store to get the right latch), put weather-stripping on throughout the house, do a general fall clean up of a long-neglected yard. But he can do far more, including building decks and family rooms and interior home re-modeling. We look forward to employing him for some more ambitious jobs.

Description of Work: In the past few weeks Adam Shirley has put a new lock on our front inside-door and a new door-catch on our front screen-door, repaired several doorknobs, trimmed a side-door that was too big to open/close easily, did the same for a basement window, installed an air-conditioner, repaired a window screen, and repaired both of our outdoor hose-faucets.
