We shopped around for good prices and we were given the choice of whether we wanted to pay by the hour or pay by the job. My husband chose to pay by the hour. We really like them a lot, Adam is very easy to work with, he is personable, and he takes a lot of pride in what he does. It became clear that it was important to him that it was done right and that he did a good job. Their work was just excellent and their painting was just perfect. He excelled at cleanup; he made sure everything was perfect before he left. The only thing that I had an issue with is that he would give us estimate on the time it should take but it seemed like it usually took much longer than the estimate. We never knew what to make of that. They were hard workers but I don’t know if the quality of work would change if you had them work by the job instead of by the hour. I hesitate to say anything negative about them because they do such a good job. They would come later in the morning sometimes but that didn’t bother us because they would stay later into the evening. I would use them again in a heartbeat if it was a project where quality was very important.
Description of Work: We use Adam’s Handyman & Remodeling Service quite a bit. We started using them this summer and they helped us install a bathroom countertop and two sinks. They also painted some ceilings and bumped out a space in the garage so we could have pantries. That was pretty extensive work.
In summary, Adam’s Handyman & Remodeling Service has our highest recommendation. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Adam’s Handyman & Remodeling Service has our highest endorsement. We first found AHRS on Angie’s List and based on the high recommendations had Adam give us an estimate on repairing some tile in our shower. What he found was that our tiled shower had been poorly installed and that it was likely that there was a major mold problem behind our tiles. He gave us several estimates based on best and worst case scenarios. As he had predicted removal of a few tiles revealed major damage, and we, therefore decided to completely remove the damaged shower and replace it from scratch. During the decision making process, Adam was helpful and honest. The work done was superb, and the price reasonable. AHRS’ work team was efficient, very clean, and friendly. We were so impressed by Adam’s work that we also decided to have him replace the bathroom vanity. This was not trivial because of the dimension of the vanity and the placement of a large mirror which we thought that we had to replace because it had chips along the bottom edge. Adam came up with a solution that allowed us to keep our mirror and saved us over $500 that a new mirror would have cost us.
Adam and his team came and completed an extensive "honey do" list that my husband had not been able to attend to.The work was completed accurately and efficiently and within the estimate provided.Would definitely use his services again! Thanks Adam and Pat for an excellent job!
Description of Work: Gutters cleaned, roof leak fixed, closet light replaced, minor plumbing leaks, outside post light replaced, caulking, outdoor spigot replaced.
I called Adam in early spring of 2011 based on other positive reviews on Angie's list. I caught him at one of his busiest times, but he came over either that day or the next (can't remember which) to examine my list of jobs, and called back several days later with a verbal estimate. He and his coworker Pat ended up spending the better part of a week at my house completing everything on my list. They needed to be quite creative in both replacing my sink/faucet (because of space restrictions) and in replacing the bamboo flooring (I had some extra flooring I'd gotten when I had the floor put in, and it turned out to be *barely* enough to cover the job; had Adam and Pat not been so careful, I would have had to order a new lot). They had some schedule conflicts during the week and weren't always at my house when they said they would be, but they worked very hard and completed the job in the overall time window I'd given them, so I see that as a minor issue. They were very careful about cleaning up afterwards, and even did a few jobs like oiling a squeaking door that I hadn't asked them do to. Adam involved me up front in deciding how the porch railing should look. I suppose I should have downgraded them a little for not providing a written estimate, but I didn't push the issue at the time, and the final cost came in a little under the estimate that Adam had given me, and it was the overall honesty that I appreciate more. After the job was complete, I found my dishwasher didn't work (it had to be moved while the flooring was replaced), so I called Adam and he came over that same day to fix the problem.
Description of Work: 1. Remove old cast iron porch railing 2. Build new wooden porch railing from scratch 3. Replace water-stained bamboo flooring in kitchen 4. Remove old kitchen sink/faucet and put in a new ones (including switching the placement of the garbage disposal) 5. Replace damage aluminum siding corners 6. Repair holes in aluminum siding 7. Rebuild rotted door molding on a porch door 8. Fix squeaky floors
Adam did an extraordinary job all around--in terms of actual workmanship as well as planning, diagnosing, and keeping customer (this one, for sure) informed each step of the way. He was effectively careful to explain each process fully and prior to the actual work. I was especially impressed with his thoughtful consideration and analytical skill; though his work was timely and efficient, he never rushed into &/or through things in a way that compromised the high quality of his work. I would not hesitate to give him my absoluely highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced ceramic tile in bathroom tub area, repaired water damage from previous leakage.

I was satisfied with some aspects and not with some other. Adam is the owner and he is very efficient. The crew he hired was supposed to replace the board on the porch, but they cleared the entire porch. There were a few people who were hired, spent enormous amount of time in doing the job. The person who replaced the tiles, was supposed to replace 4 tiles, but he took a week to do the same and one of them was cracked in between, too. They worked by the hour. I spent about $4000 for the porch alone and they placed the materials incorrectly and took longer to have the same replaced, which was very good. The porch looks great, though I paid a lot for the material. I think it would have worked out better if I hired someone for the porch separately, would have done it faster. Adam was very professional and seems to know what he was doing. The way they worked on the porch was unacceptable and when I reported the same, they replaced the materials worth $700 on their own. I will use him in future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Adam's Handyman & Remodeling Service to replace the front porch, some remodeling with a room, replaced some ceramic tiles in the kitchen, remodeled the bathroom cupboards, and replaced the drains in the basement, 2 weeks ago.

Adjustments needed to be made to the door because it did not quite fit the hinges. 2 people had to come because the door I had was solid wood. Once they got to my house, they worked until it was done. When installing the glass, Adam noticed a scratch that he hadn't seen when buying it and brought it to my attention so I could decide whether to send him for a new piece. When they left, everything was cleaned up so I couldn't tell they had been there. Very good experience.
Description of Work: I hired Adam to hang a door on a shed and to replace a small pane of glass in a door to my garage.
Adam responded promptly to our request for an estimate, and was able to fit us into his schedule soon after we told him what we wanted. They spent a week working on about a dozen projects ranging from decking to fixing a leaky faucet. He and his crew (Pat and Jim) were very easy to work with - a good balance between consulting us about what we wanted and making some decisions on their own. They worked quickly and did neat and careful work. So far, very happy with the results, and would recommend highly.
Description of Work: We had a list of things including paneling our back porch, replacing our second-floor deck, installing a handrail, fixing a door that didn't close properly, replacing a kitchen sink, etc. Adam estimated that it would take 2-3 people 8 days to do them all, but accomplished almost all that we wanted in five days, with a few additional things we thought of on the way. (Only things he didn't do were replacing our dishwasher and range hoods, mainly because we didn't have time to shop for them.)

Adam gave us a prompt estimate (the job cost less than estimated), He had excellent communication. He and his guys showed up on time and did their work well. The whole project went better than expected despite the fact that he ended up giving us some bad news about our flat roof needing some significant additional repairs (work he didn't have the personnel to do). We were very happy with his service.
Description of Work: We hired Adam and his guys to removed a deck on a flat roof as well as to do some painting and to spray wash the siding. They did a good job. Adam discovered that the roof under the deck was in need of serious repair. He didn't have the guys to do that type of work and told us. He helped by giving us a good ball park estimate of what it should cost. All of his guys showed up on time and did their work well. We were very happy with the results. The price was reasonable for the work they did.

The guy who came to give the estimate was very friendly but the cost was high for what he was talking about. I went another company which was more professional like their presentation and explanation of what they would do; they were also more familiar as they had some work with my neighbor. The guy from Adam's Handyman Service was very standard.
Description of Work: Adam's Handyman Service just came and gave an estimate about three weeks ago. They were going to do some work on a garage wall like taking down the bad installation ad redoing it all.
I spent $3,500 for all the jobs. They work between 10:00 a.m. and 06:00 p.m. I would have preferred them to start earlier, but it was not a big issue for me. I am an early person. I like people coming and leaving early. The work on the microwave and skylight was $500. I only wish they could have started earlier. I liked their attention to details. They ran into issues while doing the basement windows. It took them extra time to do the work. They made sure that they went above and beyond what I was expecting. They trimmed around the window casing, which was unexpected. They trimmed out the outside of the windows nicely as well. They were perfectionists. I would use them again in the future. They did good work.
Description of Work: I used Adam’s Handyman Service. They came out twice to do two different jobs. The first job was to install basement windows, seal the front porch/stoop, insulate the basement spaces above the concrete wall, and other jobs. They did these two months ago. They came back and put a vent on the microwave. They also did the skylight trim.

Overall, it went well. Adam had reserved the entire week for me but they were done in two days. Adam charges $35/hour and there were three workmen, so I paid a total of $105/hour.
Description of Work: I had Adam's Handyman Service complete three bathroom remodel projects in my home. I had purchased new vanities, sinks, countertops, medicine cabinets, shower/tub doors, and a bathroom fan. Adam came with two of his employees: Patrick and Dan. They all were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. Both of my bathtubs needed recaulking and they did a very professional job on that. The new vanities look beautiful! They hooked up all the plumbing and I have not had any leaking whatsoever. The new tub/shower doors are a huge improvement over the sliding vinyl curtain that had been there since 1972. All in all, I am very happy with the results. If you want to save some money, I would recommend buying everything yourself and then hiring Adam's Handyman Service to do the installation. I bought my vanities at Pro Build (the old Fish Building site) and I am very happy with the quality. In my downstairs bathroom I purchased a quartz countertop with an underlaid sink from Menard's. Also purchased the other two sink tops in a man-made material that looks like granite. They are one piece units and I am very happy with them also. All other materials were purchased at Menard's. There is only one suggestion I had for Adam. They were very quick to dispose of all boxes, booklets, and warranties that came with all the items I purchased. I would have liked to at least have the warranties that came with the new faucets...and maybe the booklets that came with the new sink tops on how to care for them. Some people don't save those things, but I do. So if you have Adam's Handyman Service do some work for you, make sure you tell them you want to save any warranties and booklets that come with your new fixtures.

Went great. Called him about the shower leaking at a rental property. Adam went over the next day or so. Took care of that by replacing the shower cartridge. The tenant then gave Adam a list of other things that needed attention, so he & another guy went back about a week later and fixed everything on the list. Easy to work with and does a great job.
Description of Work: Removed & replaced new shower cartridge, replaced light bulbs, installed new front door locking knob (keyed same as deadbolts), fixed burner on stove, installed new basement handrail, replaced furnace filter, adjusted stack plug to stop water leak in basement.

It was extremely cold, and because it is an old house, it was not an easy job. They figured out a way to install the new front door without tearing out the old trim which was really nice, because the trim is original and very old. They were able to get the door installed in 7-8 hours. A few days later, they came to finish up the trim around the new door and install the new storm door. The template for the lock/handle was different than standard ones and the template was inadvertently turned backward. They were totally up-front about that, and were able to adjust for the mistake so that it looked better, and gave me a discount on the job. Later I realized that the deadbolt did not work. When I called Adam to let him know, he came over right away, and got the storm door deadbolt working. He knocked down some more of the cost for my trouble. They are very conscientious, honest, capable, and a good company to do business with. I am a satisfied customer and very happy with the new doors.
Description of Work: Removed old doors and installed new "pre-hung" main and storm doors.

His name is Adam Shirley. The service was pretty good. He explained what the options were to do certain things. Overall it was a pretty good experience and I would use him again. He is a very busy guy and he is very booked through July. He did a good job and I would recommend him.
Description of Work: I used Adam's Handyman Service to do some exterior cement work and they did some tile and grout work on the inside. They also refinished the deck.
I hired Adam to re-plaster our ceiling. It was crumbling down from a water leak in the roof, which had been leaking since it was re-shingled a few years ago. I thought the leak was fixed, but it was not - as I found out during the rainy weekend before Adam arrived. Even though Adam just did an estimate of the re-plastering and painting, he also went on the roof to figure out what the problem was. It has not leaked since! This was after I had a number of people already on the roof - roofers, masons looking at the chimney, and another handyman. I was very happy about that. In the end, Adam (and Patrick) completed the job they came for (fixing the ceiling), and added the work of fixing the flashing on the roof (were the leak was) and installed a chimney cap. Even with the extra work, he charged less than what his initial estimate was. Adam was friendly, smart and efficient. I will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Fixed leak in roof by sealing up improperly installed flashing. Installed chimney cap. Dry-walled and plastered ceiling (drywall for a closet where the ceiling was basically gone, and plastered in other places (a hallway and another closet) to replace plaster that was damaged by water). Painted over the repairs inside the house.
As the home is older, it needs various updates and occasional maintenance. The bathroom that is original to the house has a window, but in order to increase the movement of air in the room, I wanted to install a ceiling ventilation fan/light. In addition, many of the original pieces of trim work both inside and outside of the house needed to be replaced. Finally, there was a minor structural issue in the unfinished basement regarding the joists attaching to a beam. Adam returned my call promptly and arranged to come and walk through the home to discuss the desired projects and work up an estimate. Due to the nature of the projects, Adam was able to give me his initial thoughts about how to proceed, but followed up within 2 days with a written estimate. Upon acceptance of the estimate, we scheduled the the project work to occur within two weeks of the estimate. From the start of the project, Adam and his assistant Pat arrived promptly and were very diligent about keeping the various work areas clean upon finishing for the day. This was particularly appreciated as the bathroom has the only shower in the house and needed to be used on a daily basis. I was very pleased with Adam's planning and flexibility given the outdoor work that needed to be completed and the many days of rain we encountered during the work days. Everyday at the end of the work day, Adam would take me through and discuss the progress made and the plan for completion. The work performed was very impressive. I appreciated that Adam and Pat took pride in their work and wanted to make sure all of the work performed fit seamlessly into the level of craftsmanship that had originally gone into the house. (from matching obsolete molding to matching paint and stain colors to wood that had been stained back in 1927). I was very impressed with Adam's level of craftsmanship, promptness of work and professionalism. I would certainly hire him again, and look forward to working with him on future projects.

Called Adam next day for estimate, I received some verbal general estimates but no specifics. I asked that he write up the estimate so I could take it back to my insurance company.

What began as a simple handyman repair of loose ceramic tile in a second floor bathroom in an old house grew to be replacement of entire floor and some shower and wall tile and underlayment due to invisible (to me) water damage. Andy did meticulous work, explaining each problem he uncovered and giving me options for types of repair. The bathroom looks better than new. The doors and windows close and lock correctly now. The furnace and softener discharge are now appropriately directed. An all-around excellent experience for an owner of an older home.
Description of Work: Replacement and/or cleaning and regrouting of ceramic and granite tile and underlayment of the entire floor and some shower and wall tile in a second floor bathroom. The shower floor pan was replaced. All plumbing was checked and minor repairs performed as necessary. Furnace and water softener hook-ups and discharge hoses checked and replaced. He did an excellent job. It looks/is awesome. He was on time, professional and courteous. He had to "guesstimate" the cost, as this was a first for him as a paid job. It came in quite a bit over which he said he wouldn't charge me for. I paid it, as he did such a good job, and he was honest with me up front.
