Adam's Handyman & Remodeling Service

We called to set up an appointment and had to leave a message. He never got back to us. My husband called again 10 days later and had to leave yet another message. My husband did mention this time that we got his name off of Angie's List and that this was the 2nd time we've called. Miraculously, Adam returned the call that same day, but it was at 7:30 that night. My husband explained what we wanted to hire him for and explained everything in detail. Adam kept making excuses like, "he couldn't get out to our house until the middle of July", "since we're not in Madison, he'd be charging us travel time (at $50 per hour)", etc. Finally my husband had enough and told him it was obvious he wasn't interested in any of the jobs we needed him to do, thanked him for his time and hung up. Adam's listing on Angie's List is incorrect. He only works in Madison. Don't bother contacting him if you're in the "surrounding area", as it states in his listing. We live 20 miles south of Madison and he acted like we lived in another state! We didn't have him do any work for us, but with an attitude like that, I don't feel he'd be very trustworthy and are glad he's not doing work for us.

We have a small bathroom that has not been updated for many years and water leakage had resulted in mold. Adam and his partner provided a rough estimate of costs and even though the project took a bit longer than he hoped, the costs came in right where he had estimated. The quality of the work exceeded our expectations and we couldn't be happier. Would highly recommend he be used for your remodeling needs and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future.

Provider did not respond to any messages left. Messaged provider through this site and also left a message via telephone and neither was returned. Waited over a week between each contact attempt for response and never received one.

Adam is meticulous in his work, responsive and creative in assessing the best approaches.

Adam was an adept estimator. Everything appeared at first to be perfect. The job went according to budget and the work seemed good. A few months later, however, all of the caulking in our bathroom appears to have shrunk. It is all pulling away from surfaces, and there are numerous gaps. We have not called Adam back to fix this, and the reason is personal. When Adam made his initial estimate I warned him about our cats and that our house was dirty and in poor condition. I told him that I had a chronic illness and we could not afford a maid. He said he understood, but, during work he complained about cat hair and made cracks about the dust, etc. My husband and I both noticed these snide remarks separately, and only later discovered that we had both heard them.

I hired Adam to help with a minor bathroom remodel. I had a flooring contractor involved for some of the job and Adam was very accommodating in working with me to get my bathroom finished in a timely manner. I really appreciated his problem solving skills and attention to detail, and my home was always kept clean and dry despite the snowy, slushy weather outside. Communication was good; when problems arose during the flooring install that brought everything to a halt, he was quick to answer my calls and to change plans to help with the needed repairs. The remainder of the job was conveniently rescheduled to follow the day after the floor was finished, and it was completed on time. All this during the Christmas holidays. Lastly, Adam and his partner were really nice, friendly guys; absolutely no problem in recommending their services.

Adam and his partner Pat did everything that needed to be done for this job and more, and did it expertly and efficiently. They started the job by sealing off other areas of the house to prevent dust migration. When they removed the washer/dryer and bathroom fixtures and then put them in the garage, it was done in such a way that we could still pull in our cars. When they left in the evening, everything was clean and orderly. In terms of the tiling job, we presented them with a somewhat unusual tile size for the area, but that was no problem as they came up with a number of layout options. We are delighted with the pattern and workmanship. Moreover, they finished off what was left unfinished by previous owners such as baseboard quarter-rounds, replaced the dryer vent hose, and restored and cleaned every area to perfect condition. We are thoroughly pleased and look forward to scheduling more projects with Adam in the future.

Sent an email to this contractor via Angie's List on September 9. No response, not even an acknowledgement of my request. Contacted Dan Higley with All Clear Plumbing. Dan stopped by our house to see what was involved, followed by starting the job almost immediately.

I have used Adam's service several times now. I'm impressed by their work ethic. They come and start get right to work. I have never seen them "waste time" so to speak. Adam was kind enough to do a small extra job for me that I had wanted done. He's my go to person for handy work. Thanks, Adam and Pat!

Adam and Pat do very good work and at a very affordable rate. Both are very friendly and knowledgeable. Adam is very honest and upfront about what he is capable/comfortable doing and what is recommended. He won't suggest repairs that aren't needed. They did a great job on installing a vanity in an old 1930's bathroom and removing a wood burning stove, including repair of the roof. This is the second time I've used Adam's services and no complaints from me. I've always been impressed with the time Adam spends during the estimating process. He wants to be as close to the original estimate as possible. Definitely would recommend his services. The above are just a few examples of work he's done for me. The biggest plus is that I know he is honest.

Jerry called when he was on his way over and arrived well within the time frame he and I had agreed upon. He was professional and got right down to business on the dishwasher. After some testing, he quickly determined it was a fuse that had blown. He had the necessary part in his truck and was able to install a new fuse on the spot. He ran the dishwasher to make sure it was running and gave us some tips to avoid blowing the fuse in the future, although some models just need the fuse replaced more regularly anyway. He was at our home less than 30 minutes. He even adjusted the leg on the machine to keep it from rubbing on the adjacent cabinet! The final bill was within my expectation based on our phone discussion. Great customer service. Efficient. Professional.

He did a great job on short notice, he was very detailed, thoughtful about matching the period of the house and made sure it was how we invisioned it. We would highly recommend him.

Adam came to my home as scheduled on 6/1/13 so I could get an estimate on painting our entire interior, walls and ceilings. He said it would take about a week to get back to me, since he was really busy and down by a couple of guys. That was fine. When I hadn't heard from him in 10 days, I contacted him via to find out the status of the estimate. Today is 7/10/13 (more than 5 weeks since the estimate visit) and I never heard anything back from him.

as of today 05/29/13 I have had no return contact.

Adam and Pat were here when they said they would be, replaced the door, made sure I was satisfied, and cleaned up. Can't ask for much more than that!

Knowledgeable, but did not follow through.

Adam Shirley called back in a timely way and provided very helpful advice and recommendations. I learned that Adam is easy to work with and dedicated to doing a good job. I look forward to working with Adam in the future.

Fortunately for me, after viewing my floors for an estimate, Adam never called or emailed me back, because I ended up going with MADISON HARDWOOD FLOORING who did an OUTSTANDING job. This is the second time Adam did not call back with an estimate for me in 6 months, I will not contact him again.

We chose Adams due to high ratings on this website, however, the company certainly did not live up to its reputation on this site. The person who was to give us the estimate came an hour late--no acknowledgement--and it's weeks later and we still haven't received an estimate. Perhaps he doesn't want the kind of work we needed done but he didn't tell us that. He promised a bid and predicted when he could schedule the work.

Overall experience was great. Wouldn't hesitateto call on them again.

The company didn't respond, so I can't comment on their quality of work. I was just disappointed they didn't even respond to a customer request, even if it was only to let me know they were busy. I would not choose to contact this company again.

He was prompt, professional, and very pleasant to work with. I was really pleased with them.

I should preface this review by saying that we are both very particular and detail oriented. Overall we were very pleased with the quality of the work performed. Pat and Adam were both very polite and easy to work with. We have never worked with contractors who have been so meticulous about their measurements, fit and finish and always cleaning up after themselves every day. Adam measured out what I needed to order and was spot-on for his measurement. He also pointed out several potential issues and recommended solutions that were cost effective and functional. For instance: we had a tile back splash above our old countertop. Adam was the only contractor who (during the estimate process) measured the height of the back splash and had us confirm with Menards that their back splash would fit. It didn't, it was too high. Adam suggested ordering the countertop from Home Depot instead and it fit like a glove. Best of all we didn't have to mess around with replacing or modifying the tile backslash! Both Adam and Pat were very cost conscious. They did not go out buy material without first consulting us. I suspect that he catered to our needs and sensed that we wanted to be more involved. They were also OK with the homeowners helping out, which we did when and where we could. In the end there were not a lot of hidden costs for materials above the labor charge. Overall, we would recommend Adam and Pat and would consider them for other jobs at our house (large or small) in the future. Pat was right in that Adam should change their name from Adam's Handyman's service since their skill level was superior to other general contractors we have in the past!
