3rd Gen Painting and Remodeling

My contract stated they would prep the walls, cover all nail holes and do 2 coats of paint. They showed up the first day with only white paint and said the company they by paint from only had white paint. The second day they showed up over an hour late. They turned a 3 day job into a 2 day job and they finished up in under 8 hours each day. They actually bragged to me about how quickly they finished the job. They only did one coat of paint. They used the wrong shade of white on my bathroom ceiling and on my kitchen ceiling. They painted an entire vaulted wall the wrong color even after I wrote the paint name in big bold letters on the wall in the correct shade of paint. They did not do any prep work. They didn’t cover a single nail hole. They didn’t prep a single surface, they didn’t cover any countertops. I had paint speckled all over my kitchen countertop and all over my bathroom countertop. They didn’t paint behind the toilet. They skipped over half of my baseboards. Also they painted the baseboards FIRST and got paint speckled all over every single baseboard. They didn’t paint the back of my kitchen cupboard door and they didn’t paint my bathroom door or my closet door. My doors all had 30+ years of age on them after they claimed they painted them. They did not take light cover plates off, they did not take off electrical circuit covers, they did not take off door knobs. I had paint all over my door knobs, electrical covers and light switch covers. Alex with 3rd gen came over and took pics of all of the areas I was pointing out to him. He said sometimes their painters for whatever reason just don’t do good work and speed threw a job. Okay. He scheduled a second date for the same painters to come back and make things right. He said the team would dedicate a full 8 hours to my place because he said it needed it. I decided to do all of the prep work for them because I kinda don’t trust this company, I also took the liberty to repaint 5 walls that needed work. When Alex and his team got here I showed him the work I did and I was actually kind of proud of all of the work I did to make things go smoother. Alex had a fit. A complete fit. He told me if I wanted the nail holes covered on the door frames I should of done that prior to painting.. (even though this is clearly in our contract.) he refused to have his team redo the door framing, the baseboards, and he refused to have his team repaint the bathroom door and the closet door. The doors hadn’t been painted in 30+ years, they still had dings and scuffs all over and it was an off shade of white which was a dead giveaway. He looked at one of the vaulted walls from 6 feet away in a dim lit room and said this looks fine why do you want us to repaint this? It only had one coat of paint. I could see the previous color shining threw on the entire wall.after being completely harassed over and over and being refused service he told me not to write another bad review online. He said the company had made over a million dollars in a month and did not have time for this. He said if the painters don’t do good work call him up and we’ll go from there.... After six hours went by I decided to stop home and check up on them. They spilled an entire gallon of paint in my front hallway. My front door was unlocked and every single light was on in my place, no one was here.. There was a big white hand print on my countertop like one of the painters had dipped their hand in a paint bucket and smeared it on my countertop. There was a black dirty hand print on one of my extra white walls that I painted and I had no clue why they did any of this. Every wall they redid they purposely put their roller over my baseboards in big areas and let it permanently dry to the baseboards. I have been painting every weekend since my place was painted 3 months ago and I still have about 3 months of walls left to paint. They basically robbed me.

Exterior painting seems fine; it was two coats of spray painting rather than brush. Deck staining was poor with significant peeling after only 8 months. 3rd Gen could not match the stain already on the deck and unwilling to simply buy a gallon or so of the Behr's paint that would have matched the existing stain. Painters left without notice at end of the job with some work unfinished. Downspouts on house were left off for an entire, rainy week in September 2019.

We’re very happy with the work 3rd Gen Painting and Remodeling did on our basement in summer 2019. From the start, they seemed to understand what we were asking for, which was a nice and functional basement (with bedroom, bathroom, bar, and theater area) but not necessarily top of the line. The offer they provided was competitive and in our price range, while other groups we spoke with provided estimates that were 20-30% higher. Matt and his team stayed true to their initial estimate and any time that we opted for something outside of the original contract, Matt was very clear about what the additional cost would be and provided an addendum. They finished the project on time and the quality of work is amazing. Some of the unique things we asked for included - 1) a patterned tile floor in bathroom, 2) wallpaper behind the bathroom vanity for a ‘feature’ wall, 3) brick backsplash behind our bar, and 4) long butcher block bar countertops. One of the things we appreciated most was Matt and Paul’s responsiveness - any time we had concerns/feedback, we were able to get ahold of them that day. They took calls after hours and on the weekend, which was important for us because we both work full time. They were also receptive to concerns or new ideas that came up during the project, and were focused on making us happy with the end result. We’d recommend them and use them in the future, and are happy to elaborate if Matt/Paul use us as a reference.

Work was subbed out to independent contractor who told me he had just moved here from Chicago. Colors were not matched to formula provided, but were matched to chips. Painter started with satin finish on 100 year old wood siding and flat finish on the trim. I was concerned about he appearance and questioned the painter, but he said he always uses satin on siding. Halfway through the job, I called Matt and asked it this was right, and he told me they always use flat on wood siding and satin on the trim. Apparently, the subcontractor was no aware of that. After buying new paint, they re-coated most of the siding and trim in the proper finish. They also would allow paint to dry in one section before moving on to the next, producing obvious lap marks. We never did end up with a consistent finish on the house, and I can still see variations in sheen and finish. In addition, my downspouts were damaged and carelessly reattached to the house, and my fiber optic cable box was removed unnecessarily, damaged and left hanging on the side of the house, leaving me without internet until I had it all repaired. I will be having a professional painter come and put a coat on the whole house this spring, and also have my gutters and downspouts replaced. I will never hire another painter without confirming, in writing, that the work will not be subbed out, and I will certainly favor future bids that focus on experienced employees doing the work. I am only giving a "C" rating because Matt made an effort to resolve issues, but in the end we were very disappointed in the effort and the final result. I could have subbed this work out myself and paid half of what I did, and we do not feel we got the result we paid for.

We chose 3rd Gen because our neighbors recommended them. Matt and his team did a really nice job refinishing our deck and re-screening our porch. The guys worked over 12 hours a day to get the job done. Matt painted a swatch of the color I picked for the porch and when I didn't like it he was happy to bring me more options so that we could choose another color that we really liked. We got another quote as well and their price was right on. We were really happy that we chose them and would recommend 3rd Gen to others.

Finding the right company to paint your house can be intimidating. There are so many companies, and it's hard to know which are genuine and which will be a nightmare. In that respect, I hit the jackpot with 3rd Generation. Matt and his crew were talented, smart, hard-working, detail-oriented and fun to have around. At one point during the project, Matt said it really just comes down to doing what you said you would do and doing it well. He was right, and that's exactly what he did. 3rd Gen did an absolutely fantastic job for me, and there is no way I could recommend the company highly enough. I don't even have a minor concern or complaint. It was a perfect job, and I won't even consider working with anyone else for future projects. Hire them. You'll be happy you did.

Matt and his crew were professional and efficient during the entire process! Our deck is beautiful and we thank Matt for giving us great choices and ideas! His customer service is excellent along with his skill!

We hired 3rd Gen to renovate our first floor powder room and pantry. Matt and his team were great. Matt was on site almost every day checking in on the work and making sure we understood next steps and giving us updates on their progress. We appreciated the fact that they stayed true to the original timeline. It is one of the best experiences we have had with a contractor!

What an awesome experience! I cannot recommend 3rd Gen any more highly. From the initial call I made to Andre through the 2-day wall repair and painting job expertly completed by Alex and Patrick, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor. Andre is very focused on delivering excellent customer service, and Alex and Patrick were certainly excellent tradesmen. I couldn't be happier with the whole experience and urge anyone looking for high quality at a great price to contact 3rd Gen.

We highly recommend 3rd Gen, they more than delivered on a deck install for us and were very accommodating by offering to help us out with a few other projects while on site. The entire project was seamless and efficient from demo through cleanup and they improved on the previous design greatly. Matt and Joe were a pleasure to deal with and we would use them again in a second.

Great. Despite plenty of challenges, 3rd Gen did a great job of getting the job done and making it look good.

3rd gen was a pleasure to work with throughout the tedious process of caulking, priming, and painting the exposed exterior split block on the roof of my home along with finding an almost exact color match for the block which was a job in itself. It was a complex job that required a contractor with expertise. The finished product came out fantastic and I am relieved that the moisture issues resulting from the exposed block have all but vanished! Matt kept me updated on a daily basis and stayed within budget and on time. I highly recommend Matt and 3rd Gen Painting for anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy painter or contractor for their home.
