We have had several in depending roofers tell us the room addition roof had no underlayment, no ice and water barrier, no step flashing and the ceiling insulation was partially installed with the Kraft paper facing the wrong direction. The $2500 figure is an estimate of what it will cost to have the problem fixed so it never happens again.
Description of Work: Basso Builders built an addition to our home in Lake Geneva in 2008. Three years later, the master bedroom ceiling leaked. It was repaired by Basso but interior restoration was up to us. Now 6 years later, the leak came back and worse than ever. Basso is not accepting responsibility for poor work by subcontractors at all. Told me it was an ice dam which it is not! We all know this winter is severe but that did not cause the leak in our master bedroom. We have had several in depending roofers tell us the room addition roof had no underlayment, no ice and water barrier, no step flashing and the ceiling insulation was partially installed with the Kraft paper facing the wrong direction.

We are very sorry that you are having trouble with your home. This winter has been very harsh and has led to a lot of issues on homes in our area. The issues that you are having are not the result of work performed by our company. Our company built TWO additions to your home and if your accusations were correct both of them would be leaking. The owners leak is happening in their existing improperly installed roof well above the 6' addition added by our company. This review is an attempt by the owners to get something for free in order to save our reputation. I'm going to list the facts below so the viewers of this review can get an accurate assessment of the situation. 1. Our company performed a TWO small additions to a 100 year old home in 2008 2. The home had recently been re-roofed by another contractor 3. The roofing job was done poorly and the owners were informed of mistakes in their existing roof 4. There was a leak in the old roof that was repaired free of charge in 2011 5. The current leak happened on a day with no precipitation which means it was due to ice backup 6. The old roof NOT the new roof had no underlayment or step flashing and was the source of the leak 7. The leak is happening above the area where we even did any work 8. The owners were offered a free inspection of the roof but chose to cancel their appointment 9. All roofing done by my company has underlayment and step flashing which again shows that this was from the existing roof. 10. Insulation is inspected by a City Building Inspector. If it was done wrong it would not have passed inspection and would be on record as such with the City. Our new roofs now carry a 5 year labor warranty in addition to the manufacturers warranty. We could not put a warranty like that on roofing if it wasn't done to the highest standards in the area.
