This went very well! I had 6 companies bid this work. three blacktop installers and three concrete installers. The concrete was more expensive, as expected. but with the high cost of oil, the difference was not as great as I first thought. I picked Alvin Olsen for a number of reasons; He has been doing this for 54 years. (he is 74 years old) I joked that if it goes bad in 50 years, I was going to look for him. He said "I won't be hard to find!" ☺ The first driveway he ever did is still there. He gave me details on the type on concrete he would use, (4500 PSI) His price was right. His reputation in the area as being "old school". Do the job right the first time. It took longer then both Alvin and I thought, but this was due to a LOT of rain during the install. The work was done by Alvin and one other man (mid 30s) Alvin was there everyday, working as hard or harder then his younger employee. They did it in sections, digging out the old black top and then framing the area to be done next. Any area that was dug out, but not done was covered at the end of the day to keep the rain off. The clean up was done every day and was spot on. Alvin even came over on the Sunday of Memorial day weekend after church to put cuts into an area he had laid on Friday. He said it needed to be done then to prevent it from cracking. The driveway looks outstanding! I am very happy with the great job he did.
