They were here when they said they would be. They cleaned up after themselves. They were very helpful and understanding when we made changes and didn't bat an eye. They were very nice people to work with.

Klaetsch Paving removed an old asphalt driveway and installed new asphalt in October 2010. The end product was very poor. It had boot imprints of the workers, a bubbled spot that oozed an oily residue, and pavement that was so soft that no car could be parked on the driveway on a sunny day without leaving mounded or ripped asphalt. His work agreement includes a disclaimer stating that the company is not responsible for soft asphalt. This should be your first warning of problems. After haggling with Mr. Klaetsch about the numerous problems, he returned in June of 2011 to torch the mounded places and manually pound them down. This left very rough patches. Then he sprayed a substance in an attempt to harden the surface. It did seem to harden the surface, but the coating was so slick that we were unable to drive up our sloped driveway in mist or rain. After another negotiation regarding this problem, Mr. Klaetsch agreed to mill off the top inch of asphalt and resurface it in the fall. We expressed our concern about the dangers of our hillside driveway and the upcoming Wisconsin winter. The job did not get done in the fall and we fearfully and cautiously proceeded through the winter with a treacherous driveway and assurances from Mr. Klaetsch that it would be the first job completed in the spring. My husband fell six times when shoveling after one snowfall. He received black eyes and I began shoveling wearing a bike helmet. In April Mr. Klaetsch stopped to tell me they would do the job in two weeks which did not occur. Finally, on June 28, 2012 he left a note in our door saying that he would like to do the work the next day. We agreed. We were leaving on vacation and had to leave the garage door open for the crew to do the work, requesting that it be closed when they were done. We returned ten days later to an open garage door, not unlocked, but wide open. If they had had mechanical difficulties closing it, there was no communication to that effect. We are considering the project completed. If our current driveway was the original project we would have considered it satisfactory, but not good. The pavement is still soft, but we know not to park on it in the sun. We drive immediately into the garage and do not park cars in the driveway. At the end of the driveway we leave sawhorses, with enough space for us to pass around, to discourage others from turning around in the drive because it is clear that the asphalt will still rip. We have decided to treat it very gently for a couple years as we believe it is supplsed to harden over time and we certainly do not wish to deal with this company again. In addition Mr. Klaetsch was argumentative, did not do jobs when promised, and made excuses for poor workmanship, including placing blame on his asphalt supplier and the work ethic of his own employees.
