Description of Work: At first, Rich was very down to earth, folksy. He brought his crew of a few non-English speaking Hispanics to my residence to help set them up to paint the exterior of my spread ranch house. They took the better part of a week to finish (so I thought) the work. At the end of the last day I noticed missed areas. I contacted Rich immediately. The next day (Saturday morning) a crew member showed up at my house unannounced and approached me as I was working in my yard. In very poor communication, I tried to explain to him the affected areas. He went over them with primer and left within an hour. The next day, Sunday morning, he returned( unannounced) and now painted over those areas and left. I figured all is well! Within two weeks my family and I noticed many missed areas, areas where paint was flaking off, peeling, bubbling up, etc. Rich responded immediately and said it was a paint issue. He would take care of it; suggested we wait til next spring to do it. He assured me he was a "man of his word", "you know me", "I'll take care of it", "you can trust me". Well guess what, next Spring came and went. I called him but he had nothing but excuses. Too wet out, really busy, better to wait til fall, etc. I called him in the fall and he said "we'll get to it next Spring!". I contacted the paint supplier and he agreed to provide all the necessary materials to stand behind his warranty and Rich agreed to abide by the terms of his then two year warranty and said not to worry about it because he was "a man of his word". This dodging process has now gone on since Oct. 2012 to present day. Fall of 2015 he last communicated with myself and the supplier. He told the supplier he was having personal problems (divorce) and was really busy work wise. "we'll get it taken care of next Spring!". Well folks, to make a long story a little shorter than what the details allow for, Richard Matsen has not returned any of my more than two dozen phone messages, e-mails, etc.He has not even returned the Suppliers repeated phone calls or e-mails. He is still in business, but his mail is now through a P.O. Box. My house is totally disgusting looking. I have had inspectors look at my house and shake their heads in disgust. I cannot and will not recommend Matsen Painting based upon my personal experience in doing business with Richard Matsen. I use my house's current painted condition as my proof of my disgust with this working relationship!!

Description of Work: We have been using Matsen painting for years. Since the first time we met Rich, he has been such a great person to get to know. He is reliable and professional. Every time we call him with a new project he is willing to come quote our job and us on his schedule. I highly recommend Rich and Matsen Painting. He has done the entire outside of our house and almost all of the inside along with our decks.

Description of Work: Power washed home and all wood trim and windows. Sanded all wood trim. Spot primed all bare wood. Applied two coats of stain to wood trim and two coats of paint to windows. Caulked trim and windows. Repaired two windows where wood was deteriorating.

Description of Work: Rich and his crew scrapped and repainted all the cedar trim and wood exterior windows in 2008 shortly after we moved in. We have a 2 story, 2500 sq ft home with vinyl siding, cedar trim, and wood exterior windows. They did a very thorough and nice job for $3500. We had them back in May 2012 to touch up high wear areas near doorways, kick panels, and the wood windows sills that collect water. He even replaced some wood trim boards behind our outdoor lighting that became rotten on our 10 year old because they were not painted on all sides when installed. They did more than they expected to, but he held his price and did a nice job. The clean up of paint scrapping was not perfect, but 30 minutes with the shop vac took care of the remains. I will use Matsen Painting again.

Description of Work: We had 9 rooms/areas in our house painted. We have a lot of big windows and cherry wood work throughout the house. We requested 2 coats of paint as we selected darker paint colors to cover white walls. Rooms included: one bedroom with valted ceiling, bathroom, 2 story entry/foyer, kitchen, family room, living room, garage entry/mud room and office.
