WELCOME HOMES

This has been the single worst experience of my life! Mr. Haygood did very little work to sell our existing home - no open houses as promised. He said he advertised it, but would never be able to tell us which papers - and we had been checking them all. He ended up pawning the sale off onto another agent the last month of our contract. Mr. Haygood works with a guy from church who provides on site financing to cash out equity in your existing home, do your construction loan, and provide your final financing. What they don't tell you is that this guy is a mortgage broker who charges HUGE fees. Unless your credit is terrible, go to a bank - where it is FREE. He ended up telling us shortly before closing on our final loan that we needed over $10,000 cash to close the loan. After we had been paying HUGE interest payments on a construction loan that he had talked us into taking a higher interest rate on because it would only be for 5-6 months. Of course, our home wasn't completed on time so it was far longer than that. As general contractor, Mr. Haygood has consistently under-represented us. We were dealt with dishonestly and would consistently find out he had told us one thing and the city manager, his sub-contractors, etc something completely different. We had the wrong kind of driveway put in (cement vs. blacktop) and he said he did us a favor by going against what we had ordered. We have been in our home for 7 months now and do not have adequate heating or cooling in our upstairs. When the cooling didn't work we were told that was just "one of those things with a modular home". Then when November came and our bedrooms and bathrooms were in the 50's, I had to call a building inspector to get action out of Mr. Haygood. We were told in November by his Warranty Clerk that the heating situation was completely unacceptable - yet it is now January and it is still not fixed. I have missed so much work wasting my time on his sub contractors that keep coming out and confirming the problem, but not fixing anything. My husband and I have spoke with several people who also have had homes built by Mr. Haygood and most have given up on getting their warranty items fixed as they get so sick of being jerked around by Welcome Homes. The company that manufactured the home went out of business 6 months after our home was completed. We had a list of warranty issues that was 6 months old that will never get completed and the remaining 6 months of warranty is now not valid. Mr. Haygood has made no attempt to honor warranty issues left by this situation. In fact, he wrote to us and said "As the homeowner, you can pick up a hammer and nail". I am not one to be fussy about this except that I didn't pay this much money to pick up a hammer and do it myself - I would have bought a fixer-upper if that was my thing. I suggest you RUN, not walk from this place.
