Description of Work: St. Croix Valley Cabinetry made my new kitchen cabinets and island. We wanted a contemporary kitchen with white oak cabinets. Alicia researched these (they had never made them before) and helped me design them. They are fabulous. Everything fits perfectly, works perfectly and looks gorgeous. Description of Work: St. Croix Cabinetry installed a simple alley kitchen with cabinets up to the ceiling (no soffits) in 1994. _x000D_|_x000D_| After contract signed they asked if they could replace dovetailing on drawers with different fronts which were as good (weren't), could they make doors longer so they wouldn't have to change machinery (which then didn't meet the standard recommended of inches between cabinets and counter) and couldn't make rounded corners on decorative shelves on end of cabinets. All this should have warned us of what was to come._x000D_| When installed we found the material used was not the plywood we had specified over and over again to their rep (she said she didn't know the difference between plywood and the particleboard which they did use). There were many flaws in the installation including drawers didn't line up, end cabinet wasn't square with wall, one large door had a big, obvious crack down the middle, just to name a few. In other words the workmanship was far from what we were led to expect._x000D_| After contacting the BB, Attorney General's office and, finally, a lawyer they did come back and replace inferior materials. Their attitude during all of this was, for loss of adequate words, AWFUL!_x000D_| During the following years we had to replace the grommets on the glass doors as they almost fell out, one large door came off its top hinge when I was opening it, the backsplash on the countertops they insisted they had to make came loose from the wall and the finish on the cabinets that received sunshine was beginning to buckle._x000D_| The main thing I want to warn their old, as well as new, customers is that 14 years after installation, as I was emptying the dishwasher and standing under the short cabinets, over 7 ft. of filled cabinets came crashing off the wall over and round me and knocked me to my knees (I was hit in the back by the corner of one of the cabinet's door). The only way I could get out was to crawl under the open dishwasher door. I was fortunate not to be standing under one of the large cabinets or there is a good chance I would be in a wheelchair or not even here._x000D_| Due to the fact it was over 10 years I could not go back to St. Croix Cabinetry for anything, but my insurance company did contact them to see if they would at least pay the deductible on my household insurance - they never received a reply._x000D_|_x000D_| I was given a gift to Angie's List even though its several years after the accident because my family is thankful I'm still fairly active and we all want to warn any old customers to check their cabinets to prevent this happening to them._x000D_| Needless to say, I would never recommend this company to anyone!_x000D_|_x000D_|

Alicia was 9 months pregnant when we started working with her. She worked from home on our project while on maternity leave. She really went above and beyond. The quality of our cabinets is way more than we expected. They were completed and delivered in time. We love them.

+ -1 moreWe worked with Alicia at St Croix Valley Cabinetry. She was a joy to work with! Alicia came out to our house as the framing was being completed. She toured our house to get an idea of existing style and listened to our ideas. Alicia had great suggestions for placement of pieces like the bookcase, what form the entertainment center would take, addition of a dry bar and how to cover an exposed ceiling beam to match. She took measurements and had a proposal to us within a week. A two hour visit to their shop helped us choose final design options, door styles, wood and stain options, and all the final details. Seeing options in their show room really helped us narrow down choices quickly. After a few tweaks here and there, she had a final proposal to us and then coordinated build schedule and delivery with our remodeler. The cabinets were completed and delivered on time. We are ecstatic with the look that these custom cabinets bring to our newly remodeled basement. The entertainment center and book case are the focal point of the family room. The dry bar is a great addition and the beam box is a unique touch to finish it all off. The quality of construction and craftsmanship is superb. Superior quality and great fit and finish throughout. St Croix Valley Cabinetry delivered an exceptional product and Alicia made the process enjoyable with her knowledge, ideas, great customer service, and bubbly personality.

+ -1 moreI served as the general contractor and subbed out the various parts. I did all the demolition, and had Andersen build the two sink vanity from my sketch and their measurements. Alicia was wonderful to work with. She helped us get the cabinet design into a unique configuration and also provided several options for features. One of the features we selected was self closing drawers. On the day of installation the installers arrived on time and once the cabinet was set one of the installers stayed to finish the installation. He did a very nice job and added some custom cut-outs for my future plumbing in the back of the cabinet. I would use them again.

Met with Alicia and went over another set of drawings and then the final final was in the show room where every detail was finalized. I am now pondering cabinetry in the livingroom.....
Description of Work: Alicia was very understanding and understood my vision and worked with me to create a new kitchen. I had photographs of what I was looking for. She made suggestions and I was able to see examples in the show room. The plans were redone over and over to get every last detail taken care of for the making of the cabinets and island for my kitchen.

+ -1 moreThe project went great. SCVC met with us, created the drawings, reviewed the drawings with us, modified the drawings ... and we ended up with a great new space! SCVC met all deadlines; the project cost exactly what was on the initial invoice; the installers were friendly and professional. The cost is a little higher than their competition, but SCVC is a great example of "you get what you pay for"!
Description of Work: We removed a closet, laundry room and entry way near the door between the house and garage. This area is now a mudroom with custom cabinets, shelves and lockers.

+ -1 moreWe were doing a total renovation of a small weekend home that had been previously stripped of all interior build-outs. We met with Saint Croix Cabinets along with our architect to discuss the project and our vision. Alicia was extraodinarily helpful with thinking through the design and presenting cost alternatives. I was a little disappointed that some cabinet features that were standard with some other companies (like euro slides under drawers instead of along the sides) were an upcharge, but overall felt the quality was quite good and they were located near the project. Construction of the cabinets was completed in a timely way, however there were several deviations from the agreed upon drawings and a problem with several doors. The company was great about re-working the cabinets to our satisfaction. Although there were bumps along the way, in the end I am very happy with the company's work. Everyone involved was highly professional and pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: Thorough consultation with owner's architect and owner, pre-construction drawings, cabinets and drawers built for kitchen and bathrooms. Custom island constructed from re-claimed construction wood.

+ -1 moreOverall St. Croix did an amazing job and the quality of contruction is amazing. We had the work to match the original cabinetry and stain color throughout the house. They provided several deisgns, concepts, and solutions. We had to wait a bit to have the work scheduled, but it was completely worth it in the end. They look amazing and we would use them over and over. Customer service and attention to detail was also impeccible which is hard to come by here in the twin cities.
Description of Work: We had St. Croix cabinetry build floor to ceiling built-in bookshelves and cabinets on both sides of our fireplace in our living room.

They are made of knotty/rough cut alder and are absolutely beautiful!From the complete demo of the kitchen to the time the cabinets, flooring, electrical, and then counter-tops and sink were installed was exactly 4 weeks. It was a great all-around experience and we highly recommend using them for your kitchen remodel.
Description of Work: We really enjoyed working with SCVC for the remodeling of our kitchen. They gave us an itemized estimate so that we could pick and choose what we wanted them to do vs. doing it ourselves. This ended up saving us a lot of money since we saw what certain tasks were going to cost us and then decided to do some of it ourselves. Alicia, the designer, is great to work with! She is very responsive and open to new ideas that we came up with. Even when we changed our minds numerous times, she was always excitetd to hear our new ideas. We met with her at least 6 or 7 times in person to go over the designs. She did a great job of keeping us informed as to change order costs so that there weren't any surprises at the time of invoicing. They completed our cabinets on time and we think they are the most beautiful cabinets we have seen!

+ -1 moreOverall we were pretty happy with our new custom closets from St. Croix Valley Cabinets. The Good. The company was very responsive and we have a nice looking finished product. I worked with Alicia, who was really good- responsive, professional, and helpful. She worked with a design idea I came up with and tried to accommodate my, and my wife's, ideas. She tried to help reduce costs where she could and give us the various trade offs. The Cons. A custom closet is expensive and SCVC is not necessarily any different. I have worked with a general contractor in the past that I feel did a pretty good job for less money, but he was not able to do this job so we went with SCVC. I know we ended up with a superior product than what we would have gotten from a Home Depot or Lowes product, but it was a pretty big differential from those prices so tough to know if the trade off is worth it for everyone. Ultimately, I think it was for us and if you want anything truly custom (we had them do a built in shelf unit that turned out VERY nice) I would say SCVC would be a good option. Beyond pricing concerns, part of the issues we had with the final product were around design concerns. So, admittedly, I am partly to blame since these were my original ideas. These were mostly areas where I wish I could have done things differently but it was too late after the install. In some instances I wish SCVC would have seen the issue arise since they do these closets pretty frequently, but neither of us caught it in the drawings (or maybe they didn't think it would be an issue.) Examples of these are tough to explain without pictures, but relate to not optimizing space and adding what I saw as superfoulous pieces of wood that take away from the total usable space. Again, not major drawbacks, but areas I certainly wish I could have done differently.In the end we have really nice closet and my guess is my wife and I are the only ones that will notice the drawbacks in the finished product (unless we were to point it out).

+ -1 moreFantastic Experience! Alicia was very professional and responsive. She worked closely with us to come up with our design (and reworked it twice when we had other ideas). She provided sound advice to make sure that we were happy with the end product. SCVC also worked closely with our contractor (K&S Remodeling) to ensure that timing was perfect for installation. They came out numerous times to help or answer questions. We would definitely work with them again -- in a heartbeat! Our bathroom turned out amazing and the cabinets are beautiful. (They also made 3 custom mirrors to match -- everything is perfect).

+ 0 moreThe entire project went very well. From the beginning, everything was done extremely professionally with extra attention to details and staying on a precise timeline. I worked primarily with Alicia, the designer, who is so kind, knowledgeable and professional. She is an absolute pleasure to work with. Since I had completed a kitchen remodel a year ago with a different contractor who was very unprofessional and disorganized, I can say with certainty that SCVC is a cut above he rest. The two experiences could not have been any more different. SCVC is primarily a cabinet company, but they also handle the general contracting responsibilities. I had planned to do that part myself after my last poor experience working with a contractor. But after meeting with Alicia, I could see I was in capable hands and opted for a hassle-free experience. She coordinated everything, including the parts of the job SCVC did not get paid for (flooring and granite) She provided me with a calendar with dates and times workers would show up, and everything was followed exactly as she arranged it. The cabinets are beautifully made and installed perfectly. Alicia provided me with suggestions for contractors for the floor and granite, which saved me so much time. All the carpentry and plumbing labor was provided by SCVC. Dave, the main worker was very nice to have around and did a great job. At one point it was determined that a roman tub faucet they had planned to install was too complicated for them to do, so they called in a plumber for that job and not only stayed on track with their time schedule, but also amazingly did not charge me any more for his services. The number they originally bid was exactly the amount I paid. SCVC is a very well-run, ethical and professional company with great owners and employees. If you want a remodel that is done well and completed on time and on budget, this is your company.
Description of Work: Master bath remodel, including cabinetry, plumbing, and general contractor for the job. I subbed out to a flooring contractor and granite fabricator for those parts of the job, but entire project was organized by SCVC.
