Menards - Hudson

Poorly. There was no cumaru available through their supplier. None! Not in any of the 18 dimensions that they offer on their website. Unreal.

On August 22nd, 2011, I placed an order for over $2,500 of Ultradeck products (composite deck, rail and fascia material) at the Hudson, WI store. The rail spindles were special ordered, so I arranged for a ?pending? delivery for the entire purchase (to be scheduled when the spindles arrived in the store). Beef #1: Menards charged the full amount - including the delivery charge - to my credit card even though I didn?t take possession of the material until 12 days later. Beef #2: The special ordered spindles arrived at the store the following Wednesday, August 31st, but the store did not notify me. On Saturday, September 3rd, I called the store to ask if the spindles had arrived. Their answer was ?yes?, they had arrived four days ago. I asked why they didn?t call me and they said ?we would need an entire call center? (to notify customers by phone) and that they sent a postcard notification. To their credit, they did arrange to deliver the materials late on that Saturday and I started the installation on Sunday morning. Beef #3: Menards failed to deliver the special ordered spindles! They were still at the store. When I asked their customer service to refund the cost of the spindles, they said, ?we need to have the product to provide a refund.? (It is in your warehouse!) Beef #4: After installing 4 of the deck planks, I discovered that the boards were not straight and the gaps between the boards went from too narrow to too wide. (I spaced the boards at 3/16? on both ends.) It looked awful. Beef #5: When I told the store that the boards were not straight, their response was, ?the manufacturer guarantees against cracks, splits, checks and warps.? (Like I was making it up?) Note that there were considerable other defects in the Ultradeck products: significant color variation, dings (like someone hit the product with a hammer in random places), scuffs and air pockets. I told the store that the product was complete garbage. I arranged for the return of all of the Ultradeck composite material. Beef #6: I asked for a refund for the original shipping cost, to which two people replied in separate conversations, ?but we did make a delivery? (of defective product and an incomplete order). I had to ask for the store manager to approve this request. The product is scheduled for pickup today and I?m washing my hands of Menards building materials department and Ultradeck products. Update 9/9/11: I hindsight, the transportation coordinators were helpful and professional during this process, and the shipping and return of the product on their trucks went smoothly.
