Comfort by Design

I have had this issue for several years. I had someone come out because my fireplace will not run when it is windy out. they came out and said they did all the adjusting they could do and that I could put a 3x3 piece of plywood wrapped around the outside vent to prevent air from coming in and not allowing the fireplace to turn on. This really didn't fix the problem and why do I have to do this since you installed it. The next winter I called and said it was not working again. They said I will be charged again to come out because it was last year. ( I don't use my fireplace in the summer) Anyways, another guy came out, he found some burnt wiring (could of burnt house down). He also said that the venting was installed incorrectly(two many 90 degree angles) that is causing the backdraft of air. He also mention he could put something on the vent outside to relieve the problem. He had to check if piece was available. So now I have paid several times(3) for someone to come out and not fix the problem. I have not heard anything back about the piece that might fix the problem. I bought this from them and they installed it. It should work every time I flip the switch not when there is no wind. If it was installed incorrectly I should not be charged for things they have done wrong and they should fix my problem so I can use my fireplace when its cold out..

That went well, they did a very good job. Very pleasant, quick working. He was very prompt, he didn't cost me a lot of money.

Freier's is always professional and tells me exactly what I need to hear, not what I want to hear. When I first moved to Wisconsin I did not know who to turn to to check on my furnace in a house that I had just purchased. The technicians are very friendly and don't try to make you buy anything additional.

These shortfalls aside, I do believe that Freier's Comfort By Design is a high quality company. I am very happy with my purchase through them.

The fireplace is old and Jeff the repair man worked for 2 hours on the repairs. There was a $45 service charge, thermopile replacement charge & a repair charge which all totaled $254.26. I cannot comment on price as I have no idea what it would have cost if I called another company. All I know is that it is now running and Jeff who worked on it the entire time he was here.

I have used this company a few times before with great results. However this time I really needed them for same day emergency service. I called in the morning because my equipment wouldn't start since the outlet was no up to par for the task. Since I can't operate my day to day business if my stuff doesn't start I needed them out there ASAP. Steve said they'd make it work, but for some reason I was still in a panic most of the day. Steve did not let me down, and had someone there to fix the issue that afternoon. This is a great company to work with, and I'm confident in referring them to anyone.

We have used Freiers for a number of projects over the years. 13 years ago, we used they to install airconditioning units in the house. We've have them back a number of times over the years for normal service to these units. In addition, this year we had them build and install a new chimney cap for our fireplace chimney. We've always been extremely pleased with their service and professionalism.

Freier's Comfort by Design treated us well during the quote process. They sounded like they know what they're talking about. We are going to get the work done by them. Their prices are reasonable.

More than I wanted to pay because my wife decided we needed a fireplace. They came and saw what’s was needed and installed it and the work was done in one day.

Company was very pleasant on the telephone and responsive to my inquiry on an estimate. An estimate was scheduled for two weeks from the date of inquiry (weekends were the only time I was available), but exactly 24 hours prior to the estimate date I received a phone call from the individual slated to meet me, previously identified by co-workers as the only estimator, to state he would need to cancel since the company had him scheduled to attend a home showcase in Hudson all day. Any company that would double book their employee or prefer to have them re-schedule a possible sale is not one I care to work with, since this is also likely to occur when the work would need to be completed.

They came out and did a little work on our furnace. Initially, the fan didn't seem to be working when we fired it up in the fall, so they came out and looked at it and he told me that it probably wasn't worth putting two much money into it, because it's going to go out on me. He replaced the capacitor, got the fan to work and he said, "This thing can go at any time." And he gave me a bid for full replacement and sure enough, about a month later, the furnace went. His bid was higher than the others that I got, so I ended up going with another company. He seemed to be professional. He didn't allow me to waste my money for a furnace tune-up. It was commendable, that he didn't just do the furnace tune-up and charge me for it when he knew the furnace was going to break down. I think he was upfront and honest. His professional opinion was that the furnace wasn't going to last that long and ultimately, he was right. It didn't last but another month. He was ultimately right about that.

My experience with Freier's started off rocky because after we setup and appointment for someone to come look into our electrical issue, no one showed up. I called and spoke with Steve and he gave a few excuses and apologized. (STRIKE ONE) This was strike one, but I understand that projects can fall to the wayside from time to time. I wasn't pleased, but he had Eric (electrician) out to look at it within a couple days. Eric came out, said it would be a few hundred bucks and got right to work. There were a couple unforeseen issues, and to his credit he communicated everything to me clearly and came back the next day to finish the job (which wasn't fun because it included digging a trench in the front yard). The bill from Eric was $300 and we were satisfied with the job. If that would of been the end of it, this would of been an "A" review. Then Eric mentioned that we also needed to have our water pump flushed and a couple other small plumbing projects. I asked how much it would cost and he said "not more than a couple hundred bucks." I agreed to have it done and expected to pay $200 for it. Within a couple days the plumber had come out while I was gone and got to work. I came home while he was working and he mentioned some of the work he did and that we were going to need a new faucet upstairs. I knew that would cost a little more but we didn't discuss price at that time. I expected that if it were a significant price increase, that would of been communicated to me. About a week after the services were completed, I received a bill for $506! I had already paid the $300 towards the electrical and this was an additional $506. It wouldn't of been such a huge deal if someone would of communicated to me that the services were going to cost more than double what the estimate was! (STRIKE TWO) When I called I spoke with the lady I had spoken with several times before. I was upset because of the lack of communication and the fact that this plumbing issue took up 5.5hrs of labor (billed at $65/hr). She tried to look into my issue but advised that Steve would have to get back to me. The call was on 1-7-13 between 3-4pm, she told me Steve would get back to me before 5pm. It's now 1-16-13 and I still haven't gotten a call back. (STRIKE THREE) This is an example of the importance of communication in business. The jobs were done ok and both workers put in a lot of effort, so it's too bad that there was such a disconnect. I would recommend Eric specifically if you need some electrical work done, but I wouldn't recommend Freier's as a whole because of this complete breakdown of communication.

Workers showed up on time. Work place was left in a clean condition. Work was completed in less time than was allocated. Workers were professional in their interactions with us.

went well over all. It was a little confusing at first on who was going to do what with our project so it took some time to get an install scheduled. It was a little more $ than we expected for install, as it was never quoted to us, but the fireplace is working and looks nice.

They did a GREAT job! Ryan was professional, courteous and extremely easy to work with. It could not have gone better. It went so well, that we're in the process of having them replace the existing furnace and installing a sump pump, which entails establishing a collection basin since there are no existing floor drains.

We finally decided to install air conditioning into our bedroom wing-- we needed a mini-split because we have no air ducts. Having made the decision, Freiers came out to assess what we needed and had installed the system in about a week's time... just before the 100 degree temperatures hit! Courteous, professionals at every step of the process from phone to installation!

Freier's provided an extensive estimate and took a great deal of time explaining how the system works, what to expect with the install, what the estimated cost savings and payback period would be. They came out several times to discuss which method of coil installation would be best for our situation (vertical or horizontal) and they explained who would be here and when. When the big day arrived, Ryan, who was the point person for the project, came out to meet us when the drillers showed up.During the project, he was very responsive to my concerns and also with an issue that came up in which the drillers couldn't frill as deep as they needed to (due to the depth of our well/water table). Rather than forging ahead as originally planned and risk contaminating our drinking water, Freiers worked with the drillers to drill an additional 2 holes to compensate for the loss of area due to the shallower holes. Once the coils were installed, Freiers did a fantastic job getting the geo pump and electrical connections installed inside the house with the installation of an off-peak meter and connections from way across the house....they needed to do extensive re-routing of the eletrical for this but they made it work and were so pleasant! They always showed up on time and worked diligently for several days until all was completed. Once the system was ready to go, Freiers spent the needed time with us to explain how to use the controls and to understand what all the blinking lights meant and when to call in case of a problem. About 6 months after the system was installed, something went awry with the geo pump. I called and they came out immediately, determined that there was a bad circuit board somewhere, and replaced it free of charge within the same day. The geo sustem works great, has saved us money, and I know that we are always 1 phone call away from Freier's if problems arise! Excellent company.

Very nice company to work with. Very pleased from the customer service of the first phone call, dealing with the sales person, and the installer was friendly, on time, and cleaned up nicely after each work day.

Having just moved to this area, we needed someone to check on our heating equipment, prior to the real cold weather. This equipment includes the furnace, air to air exchanger, humidifier, and fireplace. Using Angie's List as a guide, we chose Freier's, because of the positive comments. I called them on a Tuesday and they came out that Friday. Mike, the service technician, arrived right on time and proceeded to checking the different areas. Knowing that we just moved in, and we did not know all of the equipment, he took time to explain how it all worked and what we need to do, in between cleanings. Mike was extremely patient and thorough and also did a great job cleaning up after himself. Both my wife and I were very pleased and because of this visit, have signed an annual agreement (we had this in our old house in North Carolina), for future cleanings. He was at the house for about 2 hours and when he left, we felt very secure knowing that everything is working properly. We plan on continuing to use them.

Our heat went out on Sunday morning. The Representative called right away after we spoke with dispatch. They came to the house within a few hours, and fixed the problem quickly. When done, he explained what had caused the issue and how we can prevent it in the future. (Our furnace is in our laundry area, the lint from the dryer makes the igniter and flame sensor dusty). He replaced the flame sensor and well as the igniter. The price, for weekend service was $265.00. This was much better service than we have received for a similar issue in the past. I would definetely use this service again.

They would good at getting a bid back to me, and within the amount I was willing to spend.

Ryan and office/billing people were terrific; the job went smoothly and on time, and the end result is perfect.
