 + 0 moreFive Star Concrete replaced 2 slabs of concrete on the top od my driveway. The incompetent crew splashed concrete on the house. Have to have the house repainted. They spilled concrete down the whole driveway and didn't wash it off. They offered to acid wash it and after I Checked with other companies found out it will not come off. They didn't put an expansion joint between the garage floor and new concrete. There s a good chance of it chipping and cracking in cold weather. They came back and cut another line in the cement because of water pooling under my steps. Took chunks out of both ends of the cut. They left concrete chips all over mine and the neighbors lawns. The curb and gutter are full of cement that wash down on to 2 neighbors driveways. They did such shoddy work I now have to Replace my driveway at great cost to me. Please be aware of "Five Stare Concrete Co" of Holmen. It has been a nightmare.

Description of Work: Very late in getting to project. We bid this seven months earlier. They said August and it happened until October. The contractor made some very inappropriate remarks about taking care of old driveway materials, and that it was not the WI DNR to toss it over our own property, in the end, we had them recycle it appropriately. He also tried to raise the cost od the project after we had signed contract. We said absolutey not. The job overall looks good, but this owner is not the easiest to deal with. Loads of excuses. He was not entirely responsible for delay, my dearest and I had planned a trip and took it, but that was way after the promised date.

 + -1 moreMet with Dean. He called and state he wanted to come right out to our house since he was at the south end of LaCrosse. I stated I needed 1/2 hour before he should come because I was right in the middle of something since I was not expecting anyone that day. He came on time. He was very curt, didn't want to hear what I wanted for a patio, only told what he would do as far as colors, patterns, etc. He was not even at the house for more than 15 minutes. He did not seem like he wanted the job, but said he would send me an estimate by email. A week later I requested the estimate to compare with others that I have gotten. Received it that afternoon. Was amazed that the cost was nearly $12,000 with little detail explaining the pricing. I had calculated the amount of concrete needed which came to less that 9 yards. Concrete is about $100 per yard. We needed pumping to get to our backyard which is 125 feet from the driveway; so I expected to pay more per yard...but even with double the labor...that is a mighty big bill. I honestly do not think they wanted the project. I can live without a patio at that price.

Description of Work: I hired Five Star to pour the foundation, interior flatwork and parking area of an 8-plex building. The quality was low, resulting in the builder hiding the crooked part of the wall under the siding. A large crack is still visible in the foundation wall in one area. The punctuality was terrible as they left my project, claiming it was too wet to pour concrete. Yet, I was on site and watched two other contractors in the same development pouring cement the day I was told it was too wet to pour. This resulted in a delay getting my building erected as well as further delay due to water then collecting where cement needed to be poured, not once but twice. This caused struggles for other contractors who had to repair their work twice before cement could be poured. One of the partners in the company told me my plans did not identify pertinent information but then stated, in front of the inspector, it was not his job to read the prints. He also called me to the site one day to have the garage drains lowered, claiming they were too high. The plumber came and lowered the drains, I later learned that was a mistake as the drains needed to be high so there would not be a step into the apartment from the garage. I then had to have ramps made for those garages. When I confronted the concrete contractor, he informed me he had witnesses (his crew) who would agree I had ordered him to lower the drains. Had I known I could not rely on this contractor to perform the job according to the prints provided, I would never have hired them. The older of the two partners suggested I was too young to have such a project and repeatedly told me what he thought my job was. I ended up hiring a different contractor in the Spring to finish the parking area. This was the third, and largest, concrete job I have had done; it is the only concrete job for which I hired Five Star and the only job with which I have had such difficulties.

When they were back to work late spring they contacted me right away to ensure I still wanted only my driveway section replaced. They showed up to do the work and were very efficient. I felt the work was done to my satisfaction.

 + -1 moreThe driveway started to crack seriously and heave by the 2nd year. Now, ten years later, the driveway should be replaced. It has cracked, settle, heaved and drifted to the point where there are 1 inch gaps between the sections. No rebar was used in the driveway, so it is weak. The and quot;sealantand quot; that they provided did not seal the concrete against leaf staining or anything else. Ours is one of the worst driveways in the neighborhood although it is one of the newest. I would be happy to share copies of my invoice and photographs with whomever is interested. Whatever you do, if you want a good driveway that lasts, stay away from these people. Theirs is the worst workmanship that we have ever seen.
Description of Work: Removed 70 feet of blacktop driveway, replaced it with concrete driveway. Added patio with steps.

 + -1 moreOur contract stated patio was to be torn up and hauled out. They wanted to pour new concrete over old cracked patio because it was too much work to tear the old out. I HAD to demolish and tear out the old stuff myself. The workers are professional but the co-owner is a rude man with a potty mouth. Not punctual and phone calls not returned and song and dance about not showing up at my house but I saw them down the block doing work. Co-owner got verbally aggressive about wanting to be paid all of it NOW even though the job was not done yet. Co-owner was using foul language.

 + -1 moreVery POOR workmanship, Terrible looking flat work, we paid for 4 yards of concrete when the job only required 3.5 (70'x4'x4and quot;) and in some places it is well under 3 inches thick, no isolation joint on foundation, very disappointing and very unprofessional. Had a hard time getting them to come out and talk to us about the poor work, when they did it was a song and dance and snake oil sale. We paid half down and before the job was completed the owner asked for the second half minus some off for the cruddy work. We slept on it a night and decided we would not be satisfied with the and quot;Patch Joband quot; the owner wanted to do and asked for it to be completely replaced also asking for some sort of warranty if they did anymore damage to our old foundation and the owner refused and walked off. I asked if I needed to get a Lawyer and owner said and quot;do what you have to doand quot;. Because we paid the second half, because the owner asked for it, now we are stuck to pay for the replacement $1600 ourselves with no refund from Five Star at All.

 + -1 moreEverything was done in a very timely matter. I received a quote the same day that I called for more information. They arrived on the job site when they said that they would and completed the job in the time they had quoted. The amount that was quoted was exactly what I paid. They are worth every penny spent. I had concerns with how the concrete was going to be poured against the house to resolve the issue of possible water in our basement and they went above and beyond to make sure that it was done as it should be and that I understood what they were doing. It is so refreshing to work with a company that takes the time to listen to your concerns and make sure that what they were doing was exactly what I wanted. We wanted to get our kids handprints in the new patio and the guys were really nice about helping to make sure that happened. I would highly recommend Howe Concrete Construction.
Description of Work: They removed and disposed of the old patio. The area was then regraded to make sure all water would run away from the house. They pourerd a new patio almost twice the size of the old patio and rounded off the edge of the patio as I had asked for. Multiple times during the project they had me look to make sure that what they were doing was what I wanted. WE LOVE OUR NEW PATIO!!!
