I was expecting to be told I needed a new furnace as the previous company I used did. Technician ran diagnostics, found water in inducer, took off motor and drained it and checked amps on inducer motor. Fired up and has worked like a charm since.
Description of Work: Heater was not cycling on, cutting off after a few minutes operation.

The tech that came out was nice. They diagnosed the issue as a flame sensor. They gave me an estimate of over $100 for the sensor and almost $70 in labor. Knowing that the part was roughly $10 and it was a very accessible part, held by one screw and a single wire, I declined the install, picked up the part for about $5 and installed it myself. The issue was still happening so I called them back. The owner was very rude and said if they installed this part it would have worked. He first said it would be another $100 to diagnose then decided almost emediately that he wasn't willing so we disconnected. He then had the nerve to call me a few minutes later to tell me he called the parts store and say I didn't buy the part there. I advised i had a receipt, let him know how much it was ($5) and gave him the address of the store. He then threatened me by saying the individual who sold me the part would be fired by the end of the day because they are not allowed to sell to individuals (supposedly only contractors) as well as tell me he was going to block my number because apparently he figures I would call them the next time.

They were really terrific! They were excellent in every way. The service guy that came to help us out really took his time, he didn't rush through things, he did it correctly, and he was punctual. The person that I talked to over the phone was just super and very nice to deal with.
Description of Work: There was a leak in the condensation so I had Hales Corners Heating & Air Conditioning come out last December and they replaced hoses.

I scheduled a day for the estimate and Scott, President of the company, came to the house right on time. He acted in a very professional way and gave me a good price for the equipment and the installation. His installers were also very professional and completed the installation in a timely manner. The installers made certain that the equipment worked properly and they took the time to instruct me in the use. Everything went extremely well and I would use this provider again if the need arises.

He arrived in the evening. Charlie took the motor off, twice. At that point we wondered, who did they send out. He kept saying it must be a plugged heat exchanger. After that, he said the diagnosis of the problem would be another $155.29. His temporary solution was removing the exhaust pipe, but you have to put it back on because removing it can cause toxic fumes. He never fixed the problem. On the invoice it said that my furnace was past life expectancy. Using my own intuition, I believe that he was trying to get me to buy a new furnace, but that is very speculative. We got another provider to come out and look at the problem. They were able to fix the relatively simple problem within 10 minutes. He knew right away what the problem was and how to fix it. I called Hale's to try and get the secondary service charge removed. The diagnosis was faulty, and to be honest, he didn't do anything more than when he first arrived. I called and spoke to the owner. He said the worker mentioned that I had purchased the motor on Ebay. I did not. I purchased it from a reputable motor repair and sales establishment here in town. I even have the receipt. He didn't even bother to ask about what the problem was, he just said, and quot;you're going to pay.and quot; Afterwards, he promptly hung up.

Response from Hales Corners Heating & Air Conditioning
This letter is in response to a complaint from our customer [member name removed]. 1). I took the call from [member name removed] at 6:11 pm after hours. He was informed of our charges on phone. 2). Charlie arrived at 7:01 pm – found the differential pressure was not enough to close pressure switch (safety) to start furnace – which means a bad pressure switch, bad inducer motor, plugged secondary heat exchanger, or restriction in the PVC. Charlie removed the inducer motor to check the secondary heat exchanger. It looked in poor condition. He then reinstalled the motor, removed intake on PVC fresh air. The furnace fired, he checked the PVC for restriction and found none. He removed the motor AGAIN! That is when the homeowner told him he just put the motor inducer on before he called us! Customer never told me on the phone or when Charlie arrived! Charlie then told him he either has a bad motor or the wrong one. He reinstalled the motor and left intake off the furnace so the customer would have heat. We did not remove exhaust PVC as it is glued in. The only way to remove it is to cut it off. Customer did not want us to do any more at that point. All work was approved by the customer. See attached service ticket. Also, the secondary is what most likely failed this motor. 3). [member name removed] did call me the next day told me he either replaced or exchanged the motor that he bought. He wanted his money back from us and I replied NO! We called Hales Corners Heating and Air Conditioning Friday, 11/29/13 to service our 20 yr. old Carrier furnace which was emitting a burning smell. Scott Puffer (owner) and a tech. arrived within 2 hours and identified the secondary heat exchanger was bad and carbon monoxide was present. Scott provided replacement possibilities and options. We arrived at a suitable inclusive replacement and the price seemed fair. Scott arranged installation for first thing Monday, 12/2/13. Scott and 3 install. techs arrived as promised Monday morning. The crew was very professional, very skilled and very polite. Their craftsmanship is impressive! We are very satisfied with the HVAC installation and product. This was our first experience with Hales Corners Heating and Air Conditioning and will be a returning customer. Dave and Diane Meyer

Started with leak a week ago. they came the next day to repair and tune up. A few days later reported a banging from furnace blower area. They came right away but had to order the blower wheel which is being replaced now. They told me to go on their website for a 20% off coupon which I appreciated after hearing that replacing blow wheel would be around $350. All around very professional.

First appointment scheduled. Service person did not come. Called and was told that they had the wrong telephone number; they were trying to contact us to cancel appointment. Rescheduled. Service person did not come again. Called and was told that they forgot they had an appointment with us and would send someone out later that day. Person never came.

In both instances mentioned previously, all went very well.
Description of Work: Service call on 2/23/13 as furnace was out and the house was cold. Our normal service company was called. The fan was not operating so the technician surmised that the problem was the fan motor. He said he couldn't get a fan motor until Monday and if he came on a Saturday without the parts he needs, the charge to just walk through the door would be about $130. Based on a recommendation, I called Hales Corners Heating & Air. Tech. Nick showed up promptly that am and replaced the igniter. The furnace worked fine and his service charge was about $40 less because it was before noon he expalined. The furnace was 22 years old so he provided information for a new furnace. He said he would waive the entire charge (about $220) if I decided to go with a new furnace. Should I decide on their a high-efficiency furnace I was told I would get a $295 rebate from the Wisconsin program "Focus on Energy" and another $100 from WE Energies. After thinking about it for some time, I decided to get an Armstrong dual stage furnace from them. I didn't want to worry about the old furnace failing when we take a winter vacation. We had just returned the previous day. The new furnace was installed today (4/15/2013). The crew was very professional and completed the entire install in about three hours. We have only had the furnace operating for about 5 hours and so far I'm very happy with it. I will write another review when the weather turns cold again...say next December to report how well the Armstrong furnace is performing and an estimate of the gas savings.

They are always professional and timely; I'd still use them for service needs but not for furnace/central air installation/replacement.
Description of Work: We've used Hales Corners for servicing our furnace and central air for years. Always had a good experience with them for general service; last year or so we've had some pretty pricey repairs on both units and they were very professional/fair. Well, a few weeks ago our furnace quit working and we called Hales Corners right away as they'd just serviced our unit for this season a few months prior. They gave my husband a few trouble shooting ideas over the phone and when that didn't work they came out later that day. We were told we needed a new furnace or would need to replace the heat exchanger which would not be advised d/t the age of our unit (14 years old). They recommended an Armstrong model to us; neither my husband or I had heard of this manufacturer and we wanted to get a few more quotes. The tech did get our furnace working again thank goodness...and after a few more quotes we went with another company because we could get a nicer unit for the same price as what Hales Corners was offering us an Armstrong unit for.

I was hearing noise coming from my furnice it was a fan reducer the cost to price around 700 the furnice was 14 years old so I decided to have a new one installed. Hales Corner worked around my schedule and was there on time and finished in a timily manner. They cleaned up there debri and made sure I had no questions.

I called to get prices for service calls for both emergency and during hours for my furnace not working. At the end of getting the prices I asked a quick question to see if it was something simple. Nick stayed on the phone with me for about 15 min having me test different things over the phone to see if it was a quick fix. Despite the fact that they were $20 more for a normal service charge it was well worth having this excellent customer service, especially when so many places I had called were abrupt, rude and curt. It was refreshing and fantastic to get someone so helpful! Nick came out the next morning to do the service call and was able to find the issue of a broken condensate pump. The part was acquired and installed that day! Overall a fantastic experience and they will likely have my service for years!

The tech was courteous and informative. After finishing the tune-up he explained, in detail, the work he did and the outcome of his inspection.
Description of Work: Furnace tune-up. Please note: I have used this company for years starting with the Waukesha facility when I lived in Muskego & Pewaukee then they consolidated with Hales Corners (I now live in Milwaukee) for furnace tune-ups and have been very satisfied. I bought a new furnace 4-5 years ago from them and will continue to use this company for any maintenance or buying of any Heating A/C future equipment.

Our 1 year old air conditioning unit stop working last week of course during a string of 90 degree days. We currently have a home warranty, so we had the home warranty vendor come out and diagnose the problem because we thought that would be more cost effective. The warranty did not cover the problem, a broken pump, so we opted to call the original installer of the unit, Hales Corners heating instead. We called to report the issue. H/C quoted us $90 to diagnose the problem and $189.00 to fix it. We asked if they would roll the diagnostic fee into the overall repair, since it was a minor repair, since we live in Hales Coners so travel time was less than 5 minutes, since we already had the issued diagnosed by a professional, and since they installed this unit themselves 14 months ago. I understand margins and the need to conduct a profitable business, but since when does that send all customer service down the drain!? Almost $10,000 was spent with Hales Corners in our home in less than a year and a half this past year, we tried to continue to show customer loyalty to this company and expected that they would service what they sold and installed with more pride and integrity. They obviously have no desire to maintain customer loyalty between the short, rude demeanor of the techs on the phone, and between the inability to work with a customer to help resolve an issue that should not occurred at this age of the unit. Needless to say, we will be shopping for another company to take over our heating and air service needs. Thank God the warranty follows the unit and not the company! We will never call Hales Corners Heating and Air again!
Description of Work: Last year in October of 2008 Hales Corners Heating and Air Conditioning installed our boiler, in March of 2009 they then installed our air conditioning unit. Our air conditioning stopped working May 22nd of 2010, 14 months after its installation.

They are very good. I bought my unit from them. The come when they are supposed to. They call a half an hour before hand to let you know that they are coming. The service man is very helpful. He explains and alerts us to things.

2 guys showed up at the exact time promised and worked very hard and efficiently until the job was completed. It was a cold rainy/snowy day yet they were very conscious about keeping our house neat and clean. When they were done, everything was removed and left in perfect condition.
Description of Work: We had a new Armstrong furnace and A/C unit put in since our old ones were over 16 years old and not functioning properly. We've used this company for over 5 years and have always purchased their service plans to save money on tune ups and repairs. I spoke with the owner Scott regarding our existing plan good for all of 2008 since new units automatically come with a one year plan. He extended our coverage for a full 2 years. I also asked for any possible discounts since this is a rather large purchase. If you pay in full with a check, they do offer a discount over using a credit card. I feel Scott is very honest and very knowledgeable in this business.
