Home warranty claim - All-Temp was the preferred HVAC vendor called by company. Air conditioner would not cool during first hot & humid day in late May, All-Temp added Freon and recommended scheduling a leak check later that summer. Paid $100 deductible at this time. Air conditioner evaporator coil froze up when air conditioning was run during hot & humid weather in mid-August. Contacted home warranty company, who called All-Temp again - they found low Freon and diagnosed a leak in the evaporator coil. All-Temp added more Freon and would contact home warranty company to determine what to do next. They also attempted to charge me another $100 deductible again, but I pulled the earlier paperwork showing the leak check was part of the original claim. All-Temp replaced evaporator coil under home warranty coverage, but I had to pay out-of-pocket for non-covered duct work modifications and capture/charging of Freon. Yet another attempt at charging me a $100 deductible again, but I refused - tech said it was a paperwork error this time.

Home warranty claim - All-Temp was company's preferred HVAC vendor Came home from work on Friday and the house was cold, furnace kept trying to start but would not run; when did run, it would shut off after a few minutes. Opened a claim with home warranty company that evening. All-Temp called back Monday and tech arrived as promised later that morning. After determining the severity of the problem, tech said he would recommend complete replacement of the furnace to home warranty company. Paid the $100 deductible for this bad news. Knowing that the home warranty company would likely replace the old furnace with a similar (90% efficient) model, I asked All-Temp tech to also quote me the cost differential on a more efficient (at least 95%) unit. Received a call from home warranty rep Tuesday morning, All-Temp could replace furnace with a similar off-brand model and my out-of-pocket to All-Temp would be $1100 (for various non-covered charges - duct work/exhaust modifications, removal/disposal of old unit, etc). I did not authorized the work. I asked rep about replacing furnace with a more efficient unit, but they would need to contact All-Temp again to get this information - I voiced my displeasure because I had asked All-Temp to have this alternative ready. I reminded them that furnace was declared unsafe by All-Temp and we were keeping the house warm with a gas fireplace, electric oven & space heaters. Fortunately, I had already started to gather quotes on furnace replacement from other HVAC vendors on Angie's List. Forwarded these quotes to the home warranty company for evaluation. Contacted All-Temp by phone daily, no one answered each time, left increasingly frustrated messages. With this level of non-response for a quote - what would it take to actually schedule the installation work? On Thursday, I negotiated a direct cash payout with home warranty adjuster and selected my own HVAC vendor to install a name-brand 96% efficient unit on Saturday - no extra weekend charge!
Description of Work: Diagnosed furnace had a cracked/clogged heat exchanger and high CO exhaust, declared unit unsafe and should not be run
