Craig LaPlant installed a metal roof on my home. The roof leaks above the bathroom. There is visible damage to the drywall ceiling and sometimes I find standing water inside the bowl shaped glass dome. The roof also leaks above a bay window and has permanently damaged the wood casing and caused mold to grow around the light fixture in the top of the bay. The roof was not installed according to the installation guide (page 10) and is most likely leaking in other areas we don’t know about. Craig does not stand by his work. Craig is responsive, but Craig never follows through on his promises. Craig does not keep his word. Craig does not keep his appointments. Craig does not communicate unless prompted. Craig is also combative and argumentative at times. Craig used our credit card fraudulently. Unknown to us, he was not authorized to accept credit cards. He possessed a legacy manual credit card machine and slips to image our card and obtain our signature. He then used our card to pay off suppliers. He did not ask for our permission nor inform us he was using our personal credit card in this manner. I have been trying to get Craig to address these issues for 18 months. I have made no progress with Craig. I offered to not hold him accountable for internal damage and mold. I even offered to pay his insurance deductible. I do NOT recommend doing business with LaPlant Metal Roofs.

Description of Work: I am again looking for a reputable roofer. Today the spring thaw had water running my house again. This is the third leak we have had. Craig Laplant roofed the house in 2001. He has not responded to my requests over the years and refused to fix my driveway after breaking it up with large heavy truck. I have reported him to BBB. He lies, denies and runs away. He has changed his business to just metal roofs now. He will never set foot on my property again

The problems started with the first big rain. We noticed that the area over the garage became a great big lake. The whole garage area was under water and was causing the roof to sag. I called LaPlant and was assured that 'ponding' was normal, but this was a lake! At that time he told me he would pitch the roof to take care of the issue, but that never happened. The next winter, i noticed that i had ice coming out from under the eaves and siding on the north side of the house when the snow started melting. We could also see the new insulation we had put in was all wet. the windows in that area also showed signs of water on both the inside and the outside on that same wall. When all the snow was gone from the roof we could see that the seam over this end of the house had pulled loose and was letting water in. Later that same year we started getting water leaking in the garage where the large pond was located. When we cleared the water off we saw that the seam in that area had also come loose. it appeared that the seam tape used was not holding at all and just a thin line of caulk was all that was applied. There were mulitple calls to LaPlant roofing and the answer was always 'we will be out there next week', but next week would come and no one showed up, and no one called to say why. So I would call again and the same routine was repeated, a promise to come out then a no show, and no call to reschedule or explain what happened. This went on all summer and into fall until the weather got too cold to do anything. Many calls and emails were sent with the same results, we will be there next week, then no one shows up. At one point i told him to just bring the seam tape and i will do it myself, so in October a couple of boxes of seam tape show up and a can of adheasive. Again LaPlant said he would be out next week to install it, but again no one showed up. I figured i better do it my self or i will have leaks again all winter, but the rain and tempuratures did not cooperate. Now its the spring of 2012, and i still have rolls of tape in my garage and no one to put them on. I sent another email to LaPlant and got a phone call back, and i got another promise that the sub contractor was called and it will be done this week. Well i'm not holding my breath, its thursday night and i have not heard a word. To summarize, the rubber roof was put down carelessly leaving many wrinkles, the seams were not taped with quallity tape, and the seams were not covered at all on the outside. Follow up service was totally non-existent, there is no responsibility taken for poor work being done.
Description of Work: LaPlant Roofing gave us an estimate to repair a portion of our flat rubber roof that was leaking. The estimate was roughly 5,000 dollars. When they started to pull back the roofing they found the extent of the damage to be much worse than expected, and the whole first story roof needed to be replaced. the new quote became $18,000. We were assured we could make payments and spread it out over time, all we needed to do was give a down payment to get started. Work began with a subcontract crew from Carlos Roofing of Sister Bay. I was assured that they were experts in rubber roofs and would do an excellent job. Before the job was complete Craig LaPlant came back and asked if we could put more money down, he had a big job coming and needed more money to start that job. So much for making payments. We gave him another large payment. The new roof went on and at the time there were some wrinkles, but I was assured that normal. we made the final payment after another plea for more money.

Description of Work: My husband was looking for a company to replace our asphalt roof with a metal energy efficient one so we would never have to replace it. We also were looking for a metal roof with stone coat so it looked good and would be able to walk on it. Gerard who provided the material guaranteed 120 mph wind resistance as well as resistance to hail of 2 inches. Of three metal companies we looked at, this was in the middle and looked the best. They just started business in this area. Craig, the owner estimated timeframe they could start the project and they did. Bruce, the sales person said it would take three days and it actually took two. Although they told us originally, the crews are from their company, the installer was not (although was supervised by a La Plant employee, Jason). All people involved were very professional and worked very hard and long hours since they had to drive from De Pere each day. We had our siding blown off during the windstorm and they were able to fix that at an additional price. They also had to fix the wood underneath the asphalt and installed a ridge vent as well as shielding and metal flashings. Also, we have a satellite dish company for our tv service. La Plant's crew took off satellite and reattached it where other cos said they would not. So far all seems good. Only time will really tell but we were very pleased so far. Craig had to fill out insurance form in a timely manner so we could reduce our insurance fees. He did it immediately. We also got an energy credit for the roof. They had great colors which matched the rest of my house. They took out the building permit ahead of time and also got a dumpster and took it away in a timely manner.
