Description of Work: We resently were buying a home and saw a sign for a company that we called. Horizon Homes. Off the bat I was impressed they answered there phone. I had call 3 others with no answer. We set up a time to meet and Chad the salesman was great he spent 4hours with us explaing everything and giving us ideas. At the end of our meeting we hired them to redo are kitchen and bath along with new windows and a roof. The job was completed 3 weeks later and we are very happy. They always answered are calls and never made is feel un happy.

WHAT A DISASTER!!. Chad came over to give an estimate and it was a fair so i decided to go with them because he said that they could do everything i was asking. Nick came out the next week, we talked about the project and what i wanted done, gave me a start date of 2 July 12 and finish date of 20 July 12 and took the initial 25% down payment. we picked out every color for stain to carpet, tile and lights with Nick. From here it all went to h*** quickly. they didn't get started until 2 1/2 weeks after the finish date and only because we kept calling to find out what was going on since Chad never called me. Chad said that they would have at least two people on the site everyday, Nick and other workers. when they started only one guy showed up and started to take measurements and left after only a few hours because the materials had not been ordered yet. two days later the materials show up and the one guy is back trying to stud out the basement. he said that the wrong materials had been sent he couldn't do any more that day to he left. long story, finally got the walls studded but poorly organized so i asked where Nick was and was told he was no longer with the company - surprise none of the info we talked about got passed off correctly. so i had to go down and check ever day after i got home from work to see what was done, lots of things done wrong and had to be redone. we never changed plans from day one but no info was passed on and it was frustrating for both us and the single worker he had here. three and a half weeks into the job Chad asked for a second payment and after cashing my check they walked off the job!!! he had his guys pick up the tools and go without saying a word. They pulled electricity from the basement to re-wire for new can lights, should have taken a two days at most - one week later there were no lights on still until i complained that they need to see if everything is working before sheet rocking the ceiling. He was to run a 220v wire for a hot tub that we wanted put in, since the info didn't get passed on right the guy ran it to a spot that was convenient for him to stop. First it was 30ft short of where it was suppose to be located for the terminal point, 2nd they used the wrong wire for the job. they used a cheaper wire that is not rated for use with a hot tub so i made them re-wire with a larger gauge wire that would handle the Amps for a hot tub. He bought a small role of wire because it was cheaper and ended running it 20ft short of where it was suppose to be located. An even bigger problem still is the fact that when they walked off the job, they left all the wiring with the ends sticking out of the wall and electricity running through the wires! so i have hot wires in the basement without any them hooked up to outlets or switches, the can lighting in my ceiling is incomplete. they left the electrical box open with all wires exposed. THIS IS A SAFETY AND FIRE HAZARD!! i also had them wire for a floor register with a thermostat to control the heat. unfortunately i realized to late that they have the thermostat directly over the heater so the heat will rise and shut off the thermostat quickly and the basement will still be cold. also there are two wires about a foot and a half apart sticking out of the wall about five feet up, when we asked about them we were told they are for the thermostat. we asked why so far apart, the worker said "yea, that may have to be moved." poor poor poor i had asked Chad from the start to build me a new set of stairs since the one in place was made from 2 x 12 with only two stringer and although sturdy not what we wanted. He said that he would build me a proper set of stairs and have it looking nice. well all he did was build set of stairs with three stringers and guess what, they are made of 2 x 10's. who in their right mind would pay to have a staircase made of 2 x 12 and replace them with 2x10? i asked about treads and riser for the "proper" staircase like we had talked about and he said he didn't think we wanted risers and treads. Chad included a bar in the quote that i had wanted built in a little nook of the basement. apparently he did not get bids on how much it would cost to build a bar so when the guy came out to give an estimate it was over the allowance that Chad wanted to pay. in the end Chad said that he could not do the bar because of cost was to high. I had asked that two 4" poles/post in my basement be wrapped with a decorative post and Chad agreed with me at the very beginning and knew what i wanted. they worker had no idea what i was talking about and had build a 1 foot box frame and sheet rocked it up around the poles. again who build a foot square box to cover a 4" post... i had to go to the hardware store and get the info for the supposed carpenter. i also had a pipe coming off the wall for drainage that angled out about a foot high and 8 inches from the base of the wall , i told them not to worry about boxing it in and i would just have it painted. they left the area behind the pipe open to the outer concrete wall and did not sheet rock this - who, what contractor leaves a gaping hole in the wall! Professionalism was out the window with this company. i understand that this is a job site but it is my home, they would walk in without knocking in the morning. they would track dirt, plaster and anything else through my house, hallway without cleaning it up or even trying not to make a mess. once when the worker got mad he ran out of the house and slammed the basement door, stomped out of the house and slammed the front door. on another occurrence we could hear swearing (the F word) coming from the basement and extremely loud music that they (yes there where finally two people here that day) that they had to shout over to talk to each other. there was no pre-planning for materials or planning for sub-contractors to come in. Chad told us that he would have a electrician, a plumber and a painter come in and do the required work, come to find out there were no other sub-contractors just his workers trying to figure out what to do. Luckily for me, i used to manage a Home Depot and know what to look for, what needs to be done and how it needs to be done. i was able to make correction to their mistakes, but i should not have had to. we did not change one thing from day one other than not having the bar built. if they know what they were doing i would not have had to point out their mistakes. one month after the initial finish date has passed and i do not have a finished basement and they have walked off the job leaving a mess. i will have to hire an electrician to come in and try to figure out what they have done and see if he can fix it. the fan, light and baseboard heaters in my three seasons room now have no power to it, the back part of my basement has no lights to it. now i have to hire an electrician to repair the damage he has done. i can do most of the work myself but it will take time, that is why i hired supposedly "professionals" to complete the project quickly. i will have to complete the stairs, tiling, bathroom fixtures, vanities, lights, paint, trim work for the entire basement, hanging doors, building the bar, building shelves and stain all to match. Chad has not responded to any emails, texts or phone messages for the last week in trying to get in touch with him. i am giving him the opportunity to finish or fix the project prior to any further action i may take.

We got a flyer about them with free no obligation estimate. What got me with them was it said “we financed everyone regardless of the credit”. At that time I didn’t have the cash needed and the roof was falling and it had to be fixed, so that’s what drew me in. When we looked them on line for the owner to complain about what was going on we couldn’t pin point the owner. We were given Chad’s number by the receptionist. It was horrible. I ended up paying nothing with them. They were originally going to replace the roof and the old existing porch. The guy told me how much it is going to cost. He said it will be $750 and so I said you are half than everybody just quoted and I asked if he is sure of that price. He said no problem. He calls me when I was at work and tells me he is wrong and it will cost me $1100. So I thought it is still little bit less than everybody else and so I assumed it will go up once they start working on it. They were pleasant over the phone. They were using one by boards and outside and there were gaps in between. There were nails down and about 50%-60% nails didn’t hit the mark. They were just punched in and they didn’t care. They had put plywood and asked to paint that. I had six estimates after that and every single contractor came over and laughed. My wife said the one guy that was doing the nailing was a young kid and he dropped the nails four or five times and the other guy seemed like he is teaching the younger kid. The guy name Chad who actually bid the job did absolutely no work whatsoever. He was coming and checking and was going away. Then when I called them and left a message saying it was not looking good and I am not happy with it and it has to be redone. He didn’t return phone call. They had told my wife they will be back at 7.00 clock the next morning even though they originally told us the job will take one day. They only had half the plywood up there and next morning nobody showed up. I called them next morning and nobody responded. The next day I was off and nobody showed up. I called up and they said they will be there and nobody came. I called back again 4-5 times. I told him they are not going to finish the job and it is looking bad. I told him to take his stuff and I would give him 200-300 bucks. He calls me back about 15 minutes later and said they will be here in 20 minutes and wrap it up. I told him most of it has to be redone and he said he will take care of it. Twenty minutes later he said it is raining and will not be here till tomorrow morning. Nobody came the next day. I called him and left a message saying if he can’t be here by eleven I have other guys come and bid this job and I don’t need the awkwardness of his guys being here and picking up his stuff and it is just not professional and cool. I said if he is not here by then I am considering his supplies abandoned and he can forget the 300 bucks for putting on the roof. He called me half an hour later and said he doesn’t want the job and to keep it. They gave a lowest bid but when they got here they shot up. First Chad came across to be very professional and like it is going to be okay.
