I paid over 400 dollars for a ceiling fan box to be installed. Not only was the price inappropriate, so was the quality of the installation. When I installed the fan myself, I realized that the box was installed poorly. It was a little loose on one side (up and down) and was not parallel. This means that the fan was a little scary to install (would it pull the box down and fall?) and it was not parallel to the ceiling or the floor which caused the need to jam some other items into the support for the fan to make it more plum. The interaction with the financial individual was also not very pleasant.

The job was a small one placing 2 new outlet receptacles in an existing waiting room on a 2nd floor of an office bldg. One of the 2 needed separate fuse/ line from the electric panel thought to be on the 1st floor. Jim quoted $500-700 for the job but stated usually "the actual cost is less." After the job was done on 5/2 with the electric panel actually being found on the same floor thus shorter time and line needed to connect a new receptacle I thought the cost would be much less, only to find the final bill greater than $1200. No other discussion took place on the day of job pertaining to the cost by J and J Electric staff. Upon further investigation my understanding of a typical cost to place a new receptacle is about $75. Discussion ensued and tried to charge tax on labor and not just for materials used. He offered to split the difference as best option. Final cost nearly $900 for 2 receptacles. You be the judge.

Called and got an estimate for i$300-$350 and they did not charge for travel time. After the work was completed the work I was presented with the bill for $362.44. That was materials and one hour of install time billed at $90 for the first 1/2 hour and 2 more 15 minutes segments @ $21.25/ea ($42.50 total) plus materials, permit and tax. It was charged to my Discover Card. 11 days later I received an invoice for $588.50 comprised of $90 for first 1/2 hour, 8 more 15 minute seqments and five 15 minutes segments for an apprentice (that I was never told about or asked permission for).

They were good about rescheduling the project, probably because they wanted the business. However, the pricing I was told was not what it ended up to be. They quoted me $90 for the first hour and $85 for each additional hour. When the job was complete, the price then became $90 for the first half hour and $21.25 for each 15 minutes and they had their GPS phone with them which tracked each 15 minute increment. Also, when they had me sign the contract after the job was complete, now suddenly they are trying to charge 5.6% sales tax which is listed on their sheet, but because they have moved and the job was in Waukesha county, the tax is 5.1%
