Description of Work: Jay works very quickly, was responsible to my wishes regarding placement, gardens etc. he was great at training my dog, he made it fun for her. She mostly |had the idea by day 2. By day 3 the electric fence stopped her from chasing a small boy in an electric car. Last night her best dog friend went chasing, loudly barking, after a deer, my dog stayed in the yard. Major accomplishments. I have spent months trying to decide to install the fence as my dog is a 2 year old rescue and did experience some mistreatment and can still get frightened. Jay did such a good job with the training that my dog thought it was all play. By day 4 she is off her leash and staying in the area fenced. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and service.

I had a very good experience with this company and would recommend them.
Description of Work: He installed the hidden fence for my dog in 2013 after we moved in, trained our dog and when we had landscaping done which cut the fence he came out and quickly repaired it.

Description of Work: We have a two acre, mostly wooded property. They installed the hidden fence around the perimeter. They were prompt and efficient in the installation. They helped train our dogs. After one of the collars broke this spring they replaced both collars with new technology for a minimal charge. We have been very satisfied with the results.

Excellent experience. Jay called me back within an hour of leaving him a message. Made plans to do the install a couple of days later. Jay was very helpful in answering all the questions that we had come up with in our research. He worked with my wife with no problems at all and checked back with us to make sure things were going well. Did everything that I would have expected of him.

Thank you for the positive review. I just wanted to clarify a couple of things. The system you have is a retail system with no dealer support so I couldn't exchange/replace the transmitter to make it 100%. As far as price goes I'm sorry you felt it was too high. On August 5th I quoted you $90 to diagnose and repair up to two breaks, and that's exactly what I charged you.

I just think it's weird that Jay refuses to call me back but will talk to my husband. Considering my job is professional customer service, I find it very weird. He did in fact install our fence, but the support was ridiculously bad. It's also difficult for my husband who works in IT and travels a lot to have to be the one who calls, when I get breaks during the day and can call then. Also that I am 8 months pregnant and he still is showing very poor communication and sending random dog collar parts in the mail. I'm sorry but we just don't have another 2-3 weeks, or a month to wait around for him to help us. We offered to pay for all the parts, reimburse him for the postage, be available any time of day if he needs to come to our house and get the new collar working. The worst part is, that we just do not know what is going on. Additionally, when he was here before he went on long political rants. I just think that no matter which side you are on, that while installing a dog containment system is not the time to try to push your political beliefs on someone else, especially if you have very extreme beliefs. It's not really a time that is going to change anyone's mind about anything. But that is his issue, not ours. Our issue is that we are expecting a new baby literally any minute now and need to get our dog fence up and working again and Jay is obviously not going to help us for any reason. I really hope one of the other companies will not be quite as unprofessional. Also, if they list that they service Waukesha, they probably should do so! I really doubt he is going to respond or care, my intentions were to warn other families who wanted to get a dog fence installed. He obviously has no interest in keeping us as customers. We are going to have to hire a different company to get a collar up and working for our dog. We need it done very soon because we are expecting the birth of our first child any day now. We don't have time for Jay's games and complete lack of communication. Also, when I call as opposed to my husband, he never responds at all or answers the phone. He obviously has some of his own issues he needs to attend to. We are going to be better off working with a different company who wants our business. Jay took our money and didn't want to actually do anything for us. It's really unfortunate.
Description of Work: I tried to call Jay for weeks and also sent an email inquiry and got no responses. My husband then called and he did call him back and came out to do a consultation. 3 weeks later he came and put in the fence. He "trained" our dog with the fence for about 10 minutes and then left. My husband did not understand how to change the setting on the collar we were given and then 2 weeks later when Jay finally had time to come help us he did come and fix it. Then last week, when I'm 8 months pregnant our collar and charger broke. There has been really no communication, just random collar parts mailed to us, not callibrated for our machine or adjusted to our setting at all. We are at our wits end and are going to have to call in a different fence company to help us with this. Jay obviously doesn't want our business and it's too inconvenient for him to come to Waukesha. He probably should not say he covers that area if it's that much of a hassle.

Response from HIDDEN FENCE OF WISCONSIN
I received a notice of this Angie’s list posting on Sunday November the 11th. On Monday the 12th I sent the following response to the members and to the Angie’s rep. On Friday the 16th I followed up with the rep at Angie’s and at that point he had not received an answer from the member's. On the 16th I had thepass along an additional offer. In both the email and hand delivered quotes it clearly states that I offer a 60 day 100% satisfaction guarantee. I told the Angie's List rep that I would extend that offer (now 5 months) to the member's. I’d stop out, pick up the equipment and deliver a check for the full purchase price of $1070. On Tuesday the 27th Chelsea from Angie’s informed me that she’s closing the case since there hasn’t been a response. ************************************************************************************************************************** In the beginning I initially had trouble with their number. I either couldn’t make it out on the vm, or wrote it down wrong. I actually thanked the member when he sent the email on 5/21 as I was able to get a hold of them. From then on I have a pretty good record of contacts. 5/21 @ 12:54pm I received an email from the member. I called him at 2:12 and went over the basics and quoted a price which was $1070 not $1200. The next morning I followed up with an email quote and he replied asking that we get together to go over the layout etc…We met in the early afternoon on the 23rd, and scheduled an installation for late morning on Friday June 1st. After the install I don’t remember specifics, but over the next couple of days there were some training questions and he was having trouble adjusting the shock level. Saturday the 2nd he texted me at 4:10 and 4:19, I replied at 4:16 and 4:25. On Sunday the 3rd he texted me at 2:55, 5 and 5:41 pm. I replied 3:17 and called at 4:20pm. On the 6th there were still some questions/issues with programming. The member texted me @ 1:48, 2:53, and 7:16pm. I replied 2:26, 3:53. The member called @ 5:33, and then I called him @ 5:41 and 8:01. At this point I think we were trying to find a time for me to stop out. On Thursday the 7th we texted each other at 11:24 and 11:25, I’m assuming to confirm our appointment for Friday morning. On Friday morning I stopped out and exchanged the box or collar not sure which. We did some more training and I went over the programming again until he was comfortable. In summary, after a slow start I was there two days after we spoke, installed the fence eight days later, responded to texts and phone calls on Saturday and Sunday, and was back at the house seven days after the install. On the 5th of July I received an email about the collar flashing red. The member assumed correctly that it means it’s time to charge it. He had asked about how long it takes to charge. When the collar is plugged in a green light comes on, when charged it will go out. I was spending time with my family after the 4th and didn’t catch the email right away. He’s an IT guy so I figured it would make sense when he plugged it in. He also told me things are working quite well now, and their dog is enjoying the yard. September 13th email from him didn’t make sense so I ignored it. salvatorespagnolo.com/online.income was the only message. Next contact from the member was a text Thursday Nov 1st at 3:21. “The member thinks the collar is broken, I’ll check it tonight.” At 7pm I sent a message that a shipment was coming in on Friday (our plant is in Philadelphia, hurricane Sandy caused some delays). At 8:05 pm the memer informed me it was broken. On Friday the 2nd we emailed back and forth as he was worried the charger may be damaged also. UPS comes late, so I don’t think they (charger and receiver) went out until Saturday. The collar was actually damaged by over-tightening a screw that covers the charging port, and the charger was ok. Here’s where I messed up. The receiver is attached to the collar by two screws. I didn’t communicate clearly enough that all I needed back was the electronic part. I sent just the electronic part, (fully charged and programmed) not a new nylon collar and prongs. The member sent me an email at 10:17am on the 6th and I made sure the missing parts went out that day. At this point I assume everything is going to be up and running again. As far as training goes I’m sure it was longer than 10 minutes. This is a rescue dog that was living on the streets and was apprehensive around strangers to start with. Stress is a real problem when dogs have a history like that. Training time is really dictated by the dog, if you try to force it the dog will shut down. We walked around the yard a few times and then my dog came out and stood on the other side of the line to act as a distraction. All during this time I’m explaining what I’m doing. At the point where I feel that the dog is losing interest or getting stressed I stop. It’s hard to explain exactly how to know when to stop, but after training over 3,000 dogs I just know. It does seem odd to complain about my training process. They have a wonderful rescue dog that is enjoying the yard while respecting the boundaries. Many stress prone dogs aren’t trained properly and never leave the porch. According to the member the dog is moving about the yard and backs up when the collar beeps. As for all of the other insinuations and accusations, I won’t dignify them with a response. I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t try to come to an understanding before the AL posting. The process of sending out replacement parts works for my other customers, but clearly not in this case. Again I want to take full responsibility for not communicating the process clearly enough. You didn’t ask for any kind of resolution, but I as I see it there’s two options. Right now you have a working system and a happy dog. If you’d like to move forward I’d like to have your (the member's) email and phone number so I can make sure that it’s loaded into the contacts on my phone. If you have a problem in the future contact me and we’ll figure out the fastest way to get things working. After we figure out what’s wrong I will tell you how and when we’ll resolve it. If it’s something that requires a service call (cut wire etc…) I’ll tell you what that will cost before I stop out. The other option is that I credit you for the equipment and you can install whatever brand you’d like. The wire in the ground will work with any system. If you choose this option I would suggest that you keep your current equipment until you’ve made the change so there’s no down time. If you find something you like, try it out, check the shock level; get comfortable with the programming process etc… When you’re satisfied just send me your equipment and I’ll send you a check for $535. After I receive your equipment I’ll get a check out the next day. If you choose this option I’d like to have the equipment back by December 7th. If you have another option, or would like to make changes to the above I’m certainly willing to work with you.

We called in January/early February to price out in ground dog fences and the owner was very knowledgeable. I thought I'd have to wait until spring, but he offered to lay the wire on the grass and said he would save $200 of the bill after he came in spring and buried the line. He was quick, very friendly and even trained our dog using his dog. Our dog picked it up quickly as we had the fence at the old house. As we had such warm weather and the grass grew quickly, the neighbor accidentally mowed over our line before he could bury it. My husband was able to patch the wire (although the owner had offered to come out first thing to fix it) which kept it working until in a day later, the owner came and buried the line. He was so fast and efficient and I appreciated that he took care of everything so fast! I would definitely recommend this company!! Thanks so much for the great product and great service!!

We have two dogs- Jake, an 11 year old, 80 pound Samoyed who usually stays on our property and Sadie, a 3 year, 30 pound American Eskimo who we recently rescued. Sadie is a runner and an escape artist. In the first week of living at our home, she got loose twice. She can get out of collars and harnesses. Our property is approximately 1 1/2 acres and we wanted the dogs to be able to enjoy most of it. Jay, the owner of Hidden Fence, promptly returned our phone calls. He visited our home to provided us with an estimate and explained how the system worked. We obtained other estimates but we preferred the collars provided by Hidden Fence. We thought the collars would work better on Jake's thick fur and Sadie's longer fur. The collars were also smaller. His warranty was better too. The installation was great. Jay uses a machine to dig a very small trench for the wire surrounding the property. He uses the same machine to cover the wire. We cannot even see where the wire was buried. He did a great job of placing and sealing the wire through our driveway. Jay also shows you how to train your dog. He worked with both Jake and Sadie. He used his dog as part of the training process. He gave us a great explanation of the system and answered all of our questions. His clean up was very thorough. Sadie learned very quickly At first she stayed close to our house but now has ventured much further into the yard. When she hears the warning tone of the fence, she immediately turns back towards the house. After a month, she hasn't gotten the collar off. It is wonderful to watch her run in the yard without being tied down. She loves to explore under the bushes and trees and now she can watch people walking by. She gets more exercise too. Both my husband and I think she is much happier. We focused our attention on training Sadie but we are now working on Jake. Jake usually stayed in the yard unless someone walked by with another dog. He always wants to play with the dog and go walking with them. We are taking it slower with him since he is older and he has been able to go anywhere in the yard. We now have him up to a level where he can feel the fence and soon we will have him trained too. My husband says and I agree, it was a great investment in the well being of our dogs. Great product and great service!

They were one and a half hours late for the appointment, then seemed to rush off after collecting my check. I guess his thinking was that I wouldn't mind that the fence he just installed only worked on three sides of my house. Jay mentioned in passing while cleaning up his materials that my fence wasn't exactly in working order upon completion of the installation. He instructed me to contact the company to obtain a different transmitter, as the one I had interfered with my neighbor's. (He advised me that he could make the ''upgrade'' for an extra $250). I had no idea about this issue beforehand, and this is an issue I would think a professional installer would check out prior to installing and completing $400 worth of work. If you have a three sided house and you need an electric dog fence, he may be person for you.

Response from HIDDEN FENCE OF WISCONSIN
YES I WAS RUNNING LATE THAT DAY. AN HOUR AWAY I CALLED, APOLOGIZED, AND ASKED IF IT WAS OK TO STILL COME OR WE SHOULD WE RE-SCHEDULE? IT WAS HIS DAY OFF AND SAID HE WOULD BE THERE. THE FENCE IN QUESTION WAS PURCHASED BY THE CUSTOMER AT A RETAIL STORE, OR ONLINE. I WAS HIRED BY THE CUSTOMER TO INSTALL THE WIRE AND TRANSMITTER ONLY, WHICH I DID. IT’S NOT NECESSARY TO SEE IF THE NEIGHBOR HAS A FENCE FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: -EVEN IF THERE IS A FENCE NEXT DOOR, YOU DON’T KNOW IF IT WILL INTERFERE UNTIL THE NEW ONE IS INSTALLED AND HOOKED UP TO A TRANSMITTER. -THE MANUFACTURER WILL SEND A REPLACEMENT UNIT FREE OF CHARGE. AT THAT TIME I EXPLAINED THERE ARE 3 OPTIONS: 1. MOVE THE WIRE AWAY FROM THE NEIGHBOR’S FENCE. THAT WOULD SHRINK THE YARD SUBSTANTIALLY, SO IT DIDN’T SEEM TO BE A VIABLE SOLUTION. 2. CALL THE FACTORY AND HAVE THEM SEND A 7KHZ TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER. THEY WILL DO THIS AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. 3. UP-GRADE TO THE PRO TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER. THESE ARE USUALLY $450. I OFFERED THE CUSTOMER A $200 CREDIT FOR HIS PRODUCT, WHICH IS MORE THAN HE PAID FOR IT SINCE THEY RETAIL FOR $130. AT THIS POINT IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE WOULD CALL THE FACTORY AND HAVE THEM SEND A NEW TRANSMITTER. IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS AFTER THAT, I TOLD HIM TO GIVE ME A CALL. I AM UNSURE WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO SATISFY THIS CUSTOMER. I CAN’T JUST GIVE THE CUSTOMER A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM.
