Mike and Gina did a fantastic job. Everything was very well organized and well coordinated with the contractors like electrical, pluming, heating, etc. The quality of the work was excellent. The time frame that Mike had given us was right on target. He kept us well informed along the way as to who to expect would be showing up. Mike recognized that our old floor tile had asbestos and referred us to an abatement company that gave us a very reasonable price for removal. Even though one sub-contractor got sick for a week, they rearranged the work schedule to stay on track. The price quoted was what we paid and we had full confidence in Mike and Gina to get the job done right.
Description of Work: We did a complete basement remodel except for the furnace room/workshop. We ended up with a beautiful rec room, laundry room and walk-in closet. In addition, the furnace room required a new floor drain to meet code. This allowed us to put the drain next to the furnace so we did not need a condensate pump or hoses on the floor. Custom cabinets were installed at one end of the rec room that provided space for home entertainment center and storage. Carpeting was used in the rec room and closet, and vinyl flooring in the laundry room. Custom cabinets were installed in the laundry room as well. Glass block windows replaced the original windows. Zoned heating was added to separate the main floor from the basement.

So, we called them and on our first meeting at our house Mike immediately went to town on ideas (you could tell he has been in this business a long time). By the time we were finished, Mike and Gina both came up with ideas we loved and once we had a firm price from them we knew who we wanted to do business with. Their price was not the lowest and was far from the highest, however their quote provided the most value and thoughtfulness over the other two quotes we received, so we proceeded. They took us to a cabinet provider, a granite store, a flooring store and a cabinet hardware store and a sink and faucet store (we were able to see first hand the materials and were able to choose what we wanted). Mike said it will take about 10 weeks to completion, and we'll they were done in 9 weeks. They completely demo'd everything and started from scratch. We absolutely love our new 3 room Kitchen, Dinette and Seating area. Both Mike and Gina were a pleasure to work with and Mike's humor helped a lot along the way. Mike knows his stuff and we'll be hiring him for more remodeling projects at our home in the future. We'd also have no problem referring friends and family to Reality Construction. Thanks to Mike and Gina for everything, we love your work and our newly remodeled rooms....
Description of Work: We decided to remodel 3 rooms that were joined together and one of the rooms was our Kitchen. We had a very small Kitchen separated from the other 2 rooms via a wall and long counter top (a dinette and a seating room with a TV). We asked providers to quote on how they would make our kitchen larger and how muchg it would cost us. The 2 providers we found had just OK designs we were not thrilled about. I reached out to a long time friend of mine who I knew just remodeled hi kitchen and asked who the GC was he hired. He referred Mike and Gina from Reality construction.

We are incredibly pleased with how both rooms have turned out! Contractor was easily contacted and updates on the project progress were given regularly. Helpful advice was given to us as to which configurations would be most efficient and how to get the best results within our budget. Mike, Gina and their team are very personable, professional, honest and provide quality service.

I have a bedroom downstairs, the whole rest of my basement is finished. There is a section of the house that kind of extends out, and but that room was never finished. The room already has electrical too it. I inquired about having some insulation put in by the foundation walls, and some drywall. I told her that we already had heating to the room, so we wouldn't need that, but we would need an egress window. Typically they do the heating and the electrical, but since I wouldn't require those services, they wouldn't be interested in the job. She also told me I'd need Zone Heating, but I told her I don't need that. She said they do complete gut-outs. My home is only 10 years old, so everything is up to code. She said 'because you wouldn't require the heating and electrical work (she was just trying to up sell me) and because I wouldn't let them take it all out, they weren't interested in the work. I told her I would call Angie's List and file a complaint.
Description of Work: It says in their advertisement that they do a full service design, and it includes lower level.

Hi [Member Name Removed], I am sorry you were so disappointed in us. Unfortunately, what you were looking for is not what we do. We do complete projects only. We don't just do insulation and drywall. We also only do egress windows in an unfinished space that we are finishing. That way, we can see the area to be cut at the time of our proposal and know of any issues. We have to pull permits on anything we do, therefore, we cannot put insulation and drywall over someone elses work, that we did not do. Once our name is attached, if there is a problem in the future, it becomes our problem. There was not "trying to up sell", she was trying to determine exactly what you wanted done. We are professionals and this is our way of protecting our customer and ourselves. If you need a complete bathroom or kitchen remodel in the future, I hope you will give us another chance. Project started out with thoughtful and careful planning...where to put appliances, island shape & size, window resizing for best cabinet flow, etc. We were very pleased with the design. After the first day the kitchen & bath were gutted down to the studs. The demo phase was fast, professional and they left the house after that first day spotless. They took no time at all to complete the rough-in and handled the curve balls of updating a 1974 home with various plumbing and electrical quirks easily. Inspections passed with no problems. Mike coordinated contractors, pulled permits and maintained the schedule with consistent communication along the way. Reality Construction made some suggestions throughout the project that were quality enhancements. Mike rejected a side cabinet that didn't meet his expectations or standards and had his contractor build another one to better suit the look he wanted. Their finish carpenters were amazing and going with a darker Maple look rather than golden Oak made all the difference in the world. Trimming out the rest of the project with new 6-panel interior doors stained to match really gave the project a classy look. Don't let the fact they don't have a showroom dissuade you one bit. Being a small business owner, I know the value in controlled (low) overhead. They have built a wonderful network of vendors where we went onsite to view THEIR showrooms and as we picked out what we wanted, Gina wrote those choices into the contract. By the end of the selection process, all the choices were made, we were able to see what we were getting (not purchased looking through a book or on a computer screen) and we knew exactly how much our project would cost...no surprises. It's an efficient process and allows Reality to be very competitive for your remodeling dollar. Mike & Gina know quality and delivered! They are great to work with. My wife Wendy and I can easily recommend them for your project.

Very happy with the work Reality Construction did on our bathroom. From the initial meeting through the completion of the project Mike and Gina were great to work with. From helping pick out all the cabinets, granite, sink, fixtures to being responsive to answer questions or concerns we had as our project moved along Mike and Gina were honest and available and kept us in the loop on the status of the progress in our bathroom remodel. Our project was completed on time, Mike and the sub-contractors were neat around our house, and there were no hidden costs. The finished result turned out great and we are very pleased with our bathroom.

EXCELLENT Experience. Mike and Gina are wonderful to work with.... from the initial design meeting at the house, to the pre-signing handholding choices of materials and supplies, through the final walkthrough. Always available via email or cell phone, and always responsive to our questions and concerns. Any issues that arose were discussed with us and always resolved to our satisfaction (examples below). I wish I had the money to have them do every room in my house! Highly recommend them to anyone wanting a quality job done by quality ethical people. examples: 1) Countertop people drilled an extra (unnecessary) hole in granite. Mike offered to provide a cap or a soap dispenser free of charge. 2) Due to size of sink and faucet, the original plan for a short granite backstop was not possible. Mike presented 3 options, and we agreed to one of them: we buy tile, he'd install it free. 3) Floor guys put a double threshold between kitchen and dining room, which looked odd. Mike arranged for floor guys to resolve with a single threshold. Gina and Mike are awesome. Cannot say enough good things about them.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel on our 1966 kitchen. =Full gut to studs = New electrical, plumbing, venting, drywall, primer, paint = New cabinets, trim and cabinet hardware = New granite countertop = New sink, faucet, garbage disposal, soap dispenser = New laminate floor & thresholds = New tile backsplash = (We purchased separately new dishwasher, electric range & microwave)

The estimator arrived on-time & listened to my plan. She offered suggestions & explained their process. She provided a rough verbal estimate & indicated that a written estimate would be e-mailed to me. The written estimate matched what we had discussed & was very thorough. I won't be proceeding with the project at this time due to the cost.

Went quite well. The purchasing of all items really helped with our budgeting-we did not want any pricing surprises. Very much appreciated the pricing assurance given by contractor. Not being in construction it was a little difficult to visualize how everything would go together. We lost some time when we decided that the flooring we had picked out was too dark for the room/cabinets. Had to pay a restock fee and wait for the lighter shade floor to arrive. We accept that this delay was on us-simply did not appreciate how the colors etc. needed to be seen together as opposed to being single items. Workers were clearly skilled and competent and left the work area clean at the end of the day. Requested and received a timeline of the cascade of workers schedule for the duration of the project. Helped with coordination with our schedules. Good husband/wife team as each bring unique talents to the project.

They returned my call quickly, which I really appreciated. However, on the phone they were already saying that they would need to tear out work that had been started- saying they couldn't trust others electrical work. This seemed strange, as I assume that the electrical would be inspected anyway, and I told them all the electrical was still exposed because the walls were never finished. I said I didn't want to pay more for tearing out work that was done, and then paying again for them to re-do it. They arrived a little early. We went to the basement, and they said again that they would need to rip everything out. They tried to get me to add another zone to my heater without even really looking at it, and after I told them I already bought an electric fireplace to heat the area. The zone would be a few thousand dollars. I said no. I said I just wanted a basic finish, nothing fancy. The only upgrade I agreed to was maple trim and doors. They said the cost would be $26,000 and I literally laughed out loud. The area was a little over half the basement of my very small home, probably 500 square feet total. This equals $52/sq foot, while averages are $10-35. This does not include a bathroom or anything unusual except the maple trim. I called a contractor I know who builds custom homes- not the cheapest company in other words. They quoted me $13,000. I would not recommend this company.

I am sorry you thought our bid was too high. We were not charging you for the demo work that had to be done. When pulling permits, you are required to run heat ducts and cold air returns off your existing heat runs. If you do that, without a separate zone, you are drawing heat from the first floor into the basement. With a zone, you can turn off the heat to the basement when you choose - and use your electric fireplace to heat the space. Per code, we have to have fresh air intake and an exhaust in the basement to prevent stagnant air. Our electrician wants to use his wiring because he becomes responsible for all work in the basement when he pulls a permit. Mike wanted to remove the existing framing because when 2x4s are up for an extended time without drywall on it, the walls warp. Mike wanted the basement walls to be straight as possible for you. Our base price was $30 per square foot. Most of our competitors charge from $40 to $80 per square foot. To that we added a carpet allowance of $2,500. We do not use builder grade or Home Depot carpeting. We did also add $3,500 for your zone - you could deduct $1,500 for just the heat runs and cold air returns required by code. We had also included approximately 20 can lights on dimmers to ensure proper lighting for you. Finally, there was the cost for the maple trim and doors. I can honestly say we would have had more than $13,000 in materials in your job. Carpeting alone is $4 per square foot. We met with you for maybe fifteen minutes. I am sorry you found us unprofessional. We just want your space to be the best it can be and have everything up to code and inspected by your community. Right now we are working on a basement for $50,000, they told us their other 3 quotes were $80,000 and up. We are glad you were able to get your basement done in your budget.

Reality Construction remodeled our basement into a finished rec room/bar area, office space, bathroom, and brewery. The project was completed very quickly, and we are very pleased with the quality of the work. Our space turned out how we hoped, and it was nice to have helpful suggestions from Mike and Gina. We liked how everything was upfront (picking out materials and timeline), and there were no surprises. They were very accommodating when we requested changes to the job.

We are sorry you feel that way about our meeting. Your bathroom, with your requests, is not an easy project. You live on the 12th floor of a high rise apartment building. The floors and ceilings are spancrete. Mike was trying to explain that it is not easy to run new electric (he did not see any runs for the wiring). Also, we cannot move the location of your shower or tub easily - if at all. Mike is not the kind of person that will tell you what you want to hear just to get a job. He tells the truth, whether or not you want to hear it. All of the debris and new supplies would have to be taken up and down in an elevator. That adds time (labor) to the project. You were requesting all high end finishes. A bathroom like that in a single family home would run $20,000 to $25,000. We are also a Lead Safe Renovator and your building was built before 1978, this adds more time to the demolition work. Unfortunately, you did not have a simple job. Again, I am sorry you were not happy with our meeting.

My husband and I got a few estimates and we chose Reality Construction for a few reasons: One is that Mike knows how to do the work, so when he sends contractors to do work for you, he knows if it's done right. He is very concerned with being sure they were on time, cleaned up, did a good job etc. We also liked that he said it would cost a certain amount and if there were any "surprises" after gutting the kitchen, that there would be no extra cost to us. We did end up having some plumbing behind the walls that was a mess, which they rerouted without us going over budget.. I'll admit that they are not sales people, but we didn't want that. They were very honest and upfront from the get go. We wanted someone who knew what they were doing and didn't try to up sell, so this worked out well. Mike was very straightforward with what we could afford within a certain budget, so when we went over budget on a few things, it was completely my husband and my idea and not any pressure from them. Gina is also a very sweet lady and was very knowledgeable when answering questions as well. Most importantly, our kitchen is beautiful, functional and good quality.

We met with the contractor on 5/5 to discuss the project and its tight timeframe. We are seasonal residents and needed the renovation to be completed by the end of June. Work began on 5/13 and the project was completed on 5/25 with our final inspection and move-in on 5/26. We are EXTREMELY pleased with the responsiveness of Reality Construction and their professional approach to our project as well as the quality of all the work performed by all the various specialty areas. Everyone who worked on our project was very respectful of the other residents in the building, working only during the approved time frames and keeping the public areas clean. We highly recommend Reality Construction for work quality and thoroughness.

Our experience with Reality Construction has been very positive. Our big concern was the length of time that a project of this extent would take. Mike said he would "move mountains" if necessary to get it done in two months. To our delight we were using our beautiful new kitchen in exactly two months. What made it all possible is Mike's quality of workers and respect that they had for him. Completing a job of this magnitude on time required precise scheduling. The electricians, carpenters, drywallers, plumbers, granite installers and painters were all on the job exactly when expected. We had more than one occasion that they asked to stay late or even come in on a Saturday to get the job done. Gina was great during the whole process. She helped us with the design, made creative reccomendations, and actually spent a day with us picking out cabinets, granite counter tops, fixtures and flooring. This type of "hands on" service helped us to pruduce a finished kitchen that looks like it's right out of a designers catalog. To say the least we are very pleased. It truly has the WOW factor we were looking to create.

It is clear that this company can perform excellent work; however, in this instance it appears that they simply did not want my job. I would have been ok with that if they would have simply said so. I am very sorry you did not receive the proposal I sent to you. We sent it out, but apparently you did not receive it. I wish you had given us a call that you had not received it. Generally, we follow up with every proposal. We try very hard to make everyone happy. We came out to your house on a Saturday morning and gave you a good idea of what needed to be done, for it to be done right. Mike gave you an idea of the cost and you said it was more than you wanted to spend and more than you wanted to do. You requested a proposal and we sent you one. All we can do is apologize.

Mike and Gina came to look at our bathroom and make recommendations. We reviewed possibilities for expanding the space, and they were honest about the costs versus benefits of the options. We decided to remodel the existing space, and although their estimate was not the lowest, Mike immediately impressed me with his knowledge and focus on quality. The proposal was very thorough and all of my questions were addressed immediately and clearly. Once the project started, there was a crew at our house working almost every day. Mike kept us updated constantly on who to expect and what was happening on the remodel. When there were obstacles, Mike discussed them with us and found a solution that we were happy with. The crew was professional and friendly throughout the project. They worked around our hectic morning schedule and cleaned up after themselves each day. In addition, it was obvious that Reality Construction wanted us to be happy with the results and also for the final product to be a good reflection on their company. Our finished bathroom is beautiful, and we are glad to took Mike's advice to replace all of the plumbing.
Description of Work: Total remodel of bathroom in 1930s home. Replacement of all plumbing to basement, electrical, walls, ceiling, floor and fixtures. Due to codes, toilet and sink had to be moved.

I called three times trying to obtain more information regarding a quote for a special home remodeling project, and after finally connecting with them, they informed me that the scope of our project did not fit with what they do.

We returned your call as soon as we received your message. We pride ourselves on responding quickly to inquiries. Gina spoke to you on the first call and you told her you wanted an addition to your kitchen. Mike called back to get more details on the project, and you said you wanted to add a pantry. We do complete remodels and do not handle smaller projects. I do not know what happened, but we called after we received the only message left for us. Since there are just two of us, sometimes we are not able to answer the phone every time it rings. But we do return every message we receive.

We needed to create casual living space in our basement for teenagers and young adults to hang out. The basement was totally unfinished - concrete walls & concrete floors. After contacting a few remodelers, Mike and Gina were the only people who came over and immediately gave us a price to meet our expectations. They followed up with a formal quote that exactly matched what they indicated verbally and then they executed to perfection. Everything was timely and all of the subs were professional and punctual. Project was done over a month sooner than promised with just very minor hiccups which were addressed and dealt with immediately by Reality. The result is the comfortable, functional and quality basement that we had hoped for...all in budget and completed faster than expected. We even wound up with a few extras that we didn't think we would get in our budget like new glass block windows and a dedicated heating zone connected to our existing furnace and HVAC system that runs on it's own thermostat. We couldn't be happier with the results and would absolutely recommend Reality Construction.

We contacted Mike and Gina from Reality Construction in June 2013. They responded promptly and came to our home to review the project. We wanted our walk out basement finished and a 3 piece bath added. Nothing fancy, no fireplace, bar etc. The bath was already roughed in, and some of the framing and drywall had been completed. The first visit entailed Mike giving us a rough estimate and time frame for completion. This was agreeable to us, so we asked for a formal estimate, which was supplied about a week later. We decided to use their company. The next step was meeting at their suppliers for cabinets, tile, bath fixtures and carpeting.. There were several locations involved. I did feel a bit rushed, especially when choosing the carpet and tile. Mike and Gina were supposed to give us design help which was rather laughable. I felt we were steered toward products so we would stay in ?budget? options, which was certainly understandable, but it would have been helpful to also show us what would work for additional costs. At the tile store I asked Gina about a mirror for over the bathroom sink. She said I a choice of square or oval. I told her oval. We signed the contract after choosing carpeting (again we felt with a store full of options we were shown very little).. Work began promptly the week after the 4th of July. Here is where the first issue came up. They were to supply us with the drawn out plans for the space BEFORE they started. The plans came the first day as construction began. We had talked about an arch between two adjacent areas, Mike?s idea, and that was not done nor was it explained to us why it wasn?t. We left this go, but we really should have brought this up. Things went smoothly for the next weeks. I did have to remind them about the central vac installation as well as an outdoor plumbing line that we had requested at our first meeting. The plumber had to be called back to install the outdoor line. Mike did contact us over this time period, leaving messages on the phone as to what was going to be done during the up coming week (s). Around the middle of Sept we received a message that Mike and Gina would be making their final walk through the next day while we were at work and then they would contact us for the release of the final draw for payment. This was disturbing to us as we thought the final walk through should be with us there so we could address any concerns we had. We made a list and posted on the door. It was at this time that we noticed that the stain on the doors didn?t match the trim work. We found it hard to believe Mike didn?t notice this when he was on site. Among the issues was the bath mirror. A square mirror had been installed. Neither Mike nor Gina recalled my request for an oval one, but they also had never questioned our choice. So if they didn?t know what we wanted, why did they install the square one? They did correct this, along with a big whole in the drywall behind the mirror and several nail pops. While adding insulation to a box for the electrical panel, our land line phone was disconnected. The door on this cabinet doesn?t close properly. We met at their request on VERY short notice at 10 am on a Sunday morning because they were apparently returning from a camping trip and were in the area We were upset about the lack of concern for our Sunday. We did have a ?Blow up? regarding the door stain. An agreement was reached that the doors would be replaced. Mike phoned us to say he would be by sometime that week to remove the doors. Didn?t say on what day he was coming. On Monday morning I left the house to do errands and unthinking, locked the door. When I returned home Mike had left me 2 messages, including one that used some rather foul language. Apparently he had been to our house with a door company representative and found the door locked. I called him back to explain what had happened and he proceeded to tell me how much stress he was under, that we were keeping his money from him and I had locked him out on purpose. If I had wanted to keep out, why would I have not changed the garage door code? What would be the reason I would purposely lock him out??? Also, why didn?t he call on Monday morning to let me know he was coming that day? No one had been to house for several weeks. After being spoken too so rudely and unprofessionally, we decided to fire him. We realize that he most likely would have tried to correct the issues but we believe that when we hire someone, we are the boss. His attitude and style didn?t mesh with ours. We had his wife come to get the release for the final draw. Several weeks later we needed to turn the heat on. The furnace was never connected!! We did call the furnace contractor, who came to our home to investigate. He was very surprised as well. Mike had never inspected the installation, nor arranged for the furnace to be connected. BEWARE

I am sorry you are so disappointed with your experience with us. When we were making your choices, yes, we did try to keep you in your budget. If we had known you would have wanted to spend more, then we would have happily showed you other options, but we did not know that. We do not want to upsell. Most of our clients do not want to add extra money, so we try to limit options so you (and others) do not fall in love with something out of the budget. Yes, we made a mistake with the mirror, but it was quickly replaced & repairs made. We knew about the spigot. Our plumber had been there one day and had to return. He decided to install the spigot on a later trip. Mike had already called the plumber and asked about it. We also included this at no extra charge. The central vac was installed before the drywall went up. The electric panel was installed when the home was built. It is very unusual that it is on an exposed exterior wall. Unfortunately, the phone was disconnected. Things happen. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Mike installed the door and it closed at that time, it may need adjustment. When we set up the Sunday meeting, we thought we were responding quickly to your concerns. You could have said another day would have been better and we would have respected that. It just happened we were near your home when Mike spoke with you on the phone regarding some issues and Mike wanted to take care of things as soon as he could. When we arrived the homeowner was extremely agitated and “hyper critical” to use his term. Mike did his best to diffuse the situation. We thought everything had been worked out and was going to be okay. When the issue of the door color was brought to our attention, the doors had been installed for a month. It took us by surprise. You had already moved furniture in and were using the space before it was completed. As you mentioned, we agreed to replace the doors for you. Mike showed up on Monday morning with a crew to remove the doors and found the door locked. At first he was told "the kids" must have locked it, then he was told it was locked so no one could "just come in". You had furniture in the space before the drywall repairs and touch ups were done. This made it much more difficult for the repairs to be done. We did our best to cover everything and keep it clean. As for the heat, I am sorry it was not hooked up. That is usually done when the heating company comes back to install the grids and finish up other details. This was handled without question, from your statement, as it should have been. Again, we hope you enjoy your space and are very sorry it was not a better experience for you.

|So far it's been outstanding. Great craftsmanship work, good materials and on time. I say "So far" because they still have the flooring and finish carpenter work to do. I'll follow-up when 100% complete.
