Hank just left my house after completing my repair. He was extremely courteous, punctual, and did an outstanding job on my project. I would recommend him highly and would hire him again.

It went way over budget. He estimated $600 or so in labor, it ended up being $1,400 in labor. Hours seemed excessive and for some days made no sense. He charged me $30 for the initial visit.

He is a great guy, does good work, suggested options that we might do ourselves to save money. Will call again if the need arises. Highly recommend.

Hank is a nice guy who knows his stuff, works hard and gets the job done. We were able to get an appointment within a week of our call, and Hank was prompt and thorough in the work he did. After he completed the work on the house, we decided to hire him again for work needed in the garage, and we were just as happy with him the second time around!

It's one thing if a provider doesn't want to do the work - either doesn't have time or it doesn't fit into one's skill set or value proposition. However, to simply not contact me after I followed up shows a tremendous lack of disrespect and professionalism. Mr. Stern may be a fine carpenter - but he has serious issues vis-a-vis customer service and common courtesy.

Hank showed up on time, worked steadily, and did excellent work. He set up a mini wood shop in my garage so he could fabricate pieces that he needed in order to repair the rotted wood. The outcome was better than expected.

I can not say enough of what a great carpenter and person Hank is. We have an old farm house that has presented many challenges. One particular problem was a stairway, to the basement, that was extremely steep and very dangerous. We had a couple of carpenters stop by, promise to come back and fix it, and never return. I knew it was going to be a problem to find a person to fix this as it was difficult and hard to do. Enter Hank Stern......I called him and he was here, in my basement working on a solution within the hour. The next day he was at my house, lumber and all to make custom stairs. We got incredibly strong stairs that are now safe. He even gave me the option of ripping out the old steps to save money if I so wanted; so I ripped the steps out to save me money. The next project was to fix old doors so they would close properly. He did that too......perfectly and really quick. So, that is impressive enough, but here is the kicker......since our house is 170 years old we needed some hardware that is not sold in stores. He had the hardware at his house. He called me and invited me to his house, gave me the hardware for free and a soda to boot. I wish I would have met Hank much sooner in life, I would have a great carpenter to call and likely a trustworthy friend. I can not say enough about his skill and character. I generally do not let anyone at my house when I am not home. I travel for a living and both me and my wife have agreed that if an issue arises when I am out of town she can call Mr. Stern anytime. Thanks Hank for your service and promptness.

Hank is an A+ carpenter who goes the extra mile with fine detail and craftsmanship. Add-ons and changes to the plan are not a problem, he is very accommodating. Where I asked him to frame out one closet and reuse and existing door, I changed my mind and wanted a second closet added after he started. He said no problem and jumped right to work. His estimates are right on the money and always shows up when he says. You'll be very pleased with his work.

As a newer home owner, I was unsure if the floor being off level was an issue. Hank took a look around, and even though his advice meant that I would not be hiring him for that particular job, he reassured me that the situation was not uncommon - just normal settling. Although I did not need his services for this particular job, I will definitely call him for future carpentry work. He was very thorough and knowledgeable.

He refused to provide an estimate, told me to call him after I had bids from others & that he did not like replacing rotten wood. Angie, is this really an "A" tradesman?

Mr. Stern was very prompt to come out to measure the window and issue me a quote despite the fact that he knew the job was going to be quite minor. He mailed me a quote and called me as soon as he was able to find a window to match. I appreciated that Mr. Stern put as much effort as he did into the job even though it was quite small in comparison to other jobs that he does and the quality of his work was great.

I needed to replace two wood windows that had rotted. I talked to other contractors who either wanted to sell me custom vinyl windows or would not return calls. I called Hank who not only returned my call, but came out the same day to look at the job. He looked at what I found, told me to order them and call him when they arrived. Two weeks later the windows were here and I called Hank. He returned my call that night and set up an appointment to remove the old windows and install the new ones that same week. Hank arrived on time and went to work. He knew what he was doing and had the job done in no time. I am very happy with the quality of his work. Great personality and easy to work with. Mike

Hank was very professional. He did a wonderful job of re-structuring the damage that was caused by years of neglect to an Historic Home. His final cost was below his estimated cost. I will be using him again as additional projects are needed to be completed.
