Great! Tim really know his stuff and spent lots of time explaining the process he would use to patch the walls. Tim mixed up custom grey tones that matched the carpeting and vinyl floors. YOU CAN'T FIND A BETTER PAINTER IN THIS AREA! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Description of Work: Repaired badly peeling paint in almost every room. Removed old kitchen wall paper and painted most of the interior of the home, about 1800 square feet.

I had Tim over to give an estimate on staining (17) replacement windows we had installed and after some discussion he wouldn't commit to a firm price for the work. He wanted to work on a paid per hour basis. That should have been my first red flag. I wanted to know what the total was going to cost me before we started so after a few phone calls between us I asked if the work could be done for under $2,000 and he assured me that it could. I waited a few months to save the amount I needed and then called to get started. At that point he had me go to stain stores to try to get a gel stain that would match. All the time I'm wondering why am I doing this? I hired this so called professional so I wouldn't have to do anything. Well I bought the stain and he started the next week. He came alone and pulled his old minivan onto our newly poured section of concrete and preceded to drip oil on our driveway. Good start. Once he started, he continually asked my wife to help him carry windows outside and help turn them over. Outside, where the wind was blowing and bugs were landing on the new stain. All the while he was doing the work he was constantly complaining how hard it is to stain these windows. At the end of the day he wanted his check right then and there before leaving. That should've been the next red flag. My wife wrote him the check for $300. He got a total of 3 windows stained but not completely varnished. I talked to him that night on the phone and asked if he should have help with him so he could get it completed faster. He replied that if he got the work done faster he wouldn't collect the up to the $2,000 he said it would take. I should have fired him then. He came back for his second day alone, knocked once and let himself in, didn't even wait to be let in. Gave my wife a bit of an uncomfortable feeling. He then pressed my wife into helping him again. I came home from work early that day to discuss his work and found four windows laying across lawn furniture on our back deck drying. I noticed that one of the window panes on a window was cracked. Now these were new windows that we had put in and there were no cracked windows when he started. He proceeded to come up with every excuse imaginable on what could have happened and that it had nothing to do with him. My wife had already wrote out the check for that day, so he had his money and couldn't have left faster, saying he had to get home for dinner. I proceeded to deal with him through emails. He wanted me to file a warranty claim saying the window was defective. So he wanted me to lie on what happened so I could get a free replacement. I wasn't going to do that, so I got a price to replace the unit and it was $340. These windows have a 20 year warranty so I wasn't going to take this to any hardware store and lose a warranty on windows I just purchased. He adamantly denied that he broke the window and went as far as to blame my wife. Then he came up with the story that maybe someone sneaked into our back yard and broke it. That was it for me. He refused to take any blame for breaking the window, was staining material he obviously knew nothing about and showed what kind of character he has by blaming others for his actions. We have since hired someone else and they completed the work of staining the remaining ten windows in four hours. They came back the next day to apply the finish and were done in less than four hours. All this without taking the windows outside of the house. They told my wife that they do the work as close to the window frame that the window came out of, as possible. By carrying it around and taking it outside, the more chance you have of damaging the window. Enough said. And the difference between the windows done by Tim and the professionals we hired to take his place, are like night and day. They even commented on how poorly Tim's work was.

Response from Bast Painting & Services
In all my 40 years of painting experience, how do I even respond to this? A review that the homeowner said he'd write if I did not agree to pay him $340 for a window that I did NOT break. I’m sorry that the homeowner and I couldn’t resolve this amicably, as he did not accept my offer to pay for the repair to his window. I looked at this job in the spring of 2015. I told homeowner [Member Name Removed] that with the non-wood fiberglass windows, that staining is a little difficult and don't take stain like real wood. [Member Name Removed] gave me a sample of the material to be stained to take with and see if I could get a good match and I found a couple stains that came close. I told him to confirm colors but he found it tough to do. In Sept 2015 I agreed to do a demo on a few windows to make sure it was a match with the trim. I took out 4 windows = 8 pieces per manufacturers instructions. I then stained windows with drop cloths securing my work area in the garage. The plan was to do a few to homeowners satisfaction. Our plan was to come back later in the week if windows were good. I discounted that 8.5 hour day to $300. That night when [Member Name Removed] came home he called me to tell me they looked great and he wanted me back asap. I cleared my next day to accommodate him. I did approx 8 more sections and showed [Member Name Removed] wife [Member Name Removed] how to stain windows so they could do some that weekend if they had time. [Member Name Removed] did assist me in carefully turning the larger widows over so as to properly complete staining in areas you could not get if you attempt to stain the windows in place. Note: I know this is getting wordy but needed in the hope of exonerating my business. Note: It was [Member Name Removed] who suggested I work in the back yard on the big deck where he has more sunshine and tables that I could cover and use as a work area. It was Mikes wife who said she would be available to help and wanted to learn. Note: there were no bugs or leaves falling on windows. The tables and a couple of lawn chairs were covered and worked great to stage and dry the sections of windows. Note: the comment of walking in on wife is just wrong and another false comment to make me look bad. I have been doing this a long time and would never do that. Note: I never told homeowner to lie about his window being broke. I did tell him that after calling Marvin Windows that the 20 year warranty does cover broken faulty windows. I was told that stress cracks can show up when handling them. Note: I never told him that I would take it to a hardware store to fix it. I told him that I would replace the piece of glass at Les' Glass in Hales Corners and could get it fixed at a 1/3rd the cost. But he insisted I replace the entire window and frame for $340. Note: I have received the Angie’s List Super Service Award annually since 2010. I invite you to read the reviews from the 164 satisfied Angie's List customers.

Tim and Chuck painted the entire interior of our home about one year ago - we had a great, affordable, experience then. So, when we needed a foyer wall repaired it was logical that we would call on Tim. He responded to my email request that same day and 3 days later the job is complete. He came out twice- first to fill in, then to sand and knockdown the wall. The wall looks great - as if there was never a hole, and confirms my perception that we have a great painter in our contact list! I would highly recommend Bast Painting for quality of the work, affordability, responsiveness and professionalism.

Tim was responsive, professional, timely, and asked for my input on a variety of things - which I appreciated. As far as the painting goes, I love it. He's very knowledge, has been in the business for 30+ years and is a perfectionist. He looked the job over at the end of the 2nd day and when he found something that was not just right - even little things that I may not have noticed - he made it right. Very easy to have in our home - nice sense of humor and an over all great guy ...and a great painter who we've already talked with about future jobs!

Tim was responsive and professional throughout the process. I appreciated his advice on colors and especially appreciated that he gave us advice on projects we could do ourselves. Tim and the other painter showed up on time, worked throughout the day and finished on time. The room looks great and the entire process went smoothly. Would definitely recommend them and would use them again.

This was a job where we really did give them our best. We pressure washed 10 years of weathered deck wood, then gave them two FREE gallons of stain and a discount on labor. We pride our selves on always doing our best. I will always see to it to do touch ups when pointed out. As for the waiting, I thought that it was understood the importance of NOT putting any product on exterior wood unless it has 2 days of dry time before and no rain in forecast for 48 hours when oil stain applied. Note: June was a wet month. This was a job were we were asked to do some touch ups, and we did some, then we also painted some misc walls rather than touching up some of the walls. I only wish I would have gotten a call in July if the job needed a couple of brush strokes vs a "B" review in Sept. We always shoot for that "A" report. Thanks Much Tim

Tim and Chuck are GREAT! Tim was very responsive and helpful in getting paint supplies and colors. Him and his partner spent a total of 3 days doing all of our painting. We had just had our wood floors refinished and they were very accommodating to ensuring those had proper time to dry and not putting tape on the floors, as well as keeping things very clean! He was very helpful with tips and tricks for continuing the painting on our own. I would rec him to anyone and would certainly use him again as well!

Tim and his friend did a great job for us. They were kind (we have two little kids and a not so little dog) and very efficient. Their work looks great. Tim worked with us to use some leftover paint that he had as well as what I had in the basement to save cost. They had a lot of good suggestions, but also understood that we couldn't necessarily do everything, and helped us choose the most important parts to work on. Highly recommended, great work, great value, great guys.

Tim from the start was very responsive as we were going back and forth on when he could do the project. He did have someone cancel on him so he was able to fit us in sooner than we had thought, which was a nice surprise. He said he would arrive at 8:30 in the morning and he pulled in right at 8:30. Some of the walls had some minor repairs that needed to be done. My wife wanted a dark color in the hallway and he said if he did the dark color the imperfections would show up a lot more. He decided to take the time to repair the wall so it would look nice. I know other contractors would not take the time to do that. We had another service come in and give us a quote and they said they would not do any repair work to the drywall except filing nail holes. Tim and his partner were quick and cleaned everything up. I like to paint myself but do not like going on 20 foot ladders to paint. If we ever needed painting done again we would hire Tim.

Tim was very professional in every way. He provided a quote very quickly and even included color suggestions for the paint. (We were very happy with his color suggestions.) He called while he was painting to let us know that part of the gutter was clogged and he was going to clear it out, even though that wasn't part of his estimate. And the final price was exactly the same as the estimate. He did an excellent job, the house was meticulously painted and very clean when he was done. I would definitely hire him again, and I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking for a painter!

Tim did an amazing job! Like many other reviewers, we had gotten a quote from another company who wanted over $800 to repaint an empty 10x11 room that had been professionally painted a few years ago. We just wanted to change the color of the room and had paint they could use. The other company INSISTED we buy new paint from them. Tim, on the other hand, used the paint we had and did an amazing job painting that room. Not only that, but Tim also has an amazing eye for color and suggested we do some painting around our fireplace. We absolutely love it! He also did some patch work around the house. We would recommend him to all our friends and will definitely use him in the future!!! Thanks Tim!!!

Before we hired Tim, we received several quotes from different painting companies. The majority could not get the price under $1,000. The worst offender wanted $1,460 for the job. To put this into context, the surface area of the master bathroom is comparable to a larger walk-in closet. We felt there had to be someone who could do the same work at a better cost without sacrificing quality. When we met with Tim, he not only reviewed the areas that needed work, but also found other areas in the house that he could paint and still keep the price reasonable. Sure enough, he was a man of his word. For half the cost of our highest estimate, he handled the initial job and also painted our kitchen walls and family room walls. This is two additional spaces on top of the original job! He arrived at 8:30 a.m. on the dot and finished right around 4:30 p.m. The best part was it was Tim and a helper that handled the job; he didn't outsource it to anyone else. Not that there is anything wrong with that model, but I generally appreciate it when a guy can make a pitch for a job and then arrive on the site and handle it himself. Again, this doesn't work for all jobs and such, but it's greatly appreciated when it can be done. Overall, the house looks great. Tim's background in interior design is a major asset when selecting colors that work well with each other. He is also very personable; you feel like he's an old friend that you haven't seen in a while. I would highly recommend Tim to anyone. There is a reason he's so highly rated on Angie's List. Now I know why.

Tim and Chuck arrived on time and got right to work. They patched cracks and applied spray texture in the living room ceiling and walls to the point that the cracks are hardly noticeable. They put 2 coats of paint on both the living room and hallway walls and ceilings. In addition, they did some minor touch-up work in our kitchen and painted 2 lower sections of our breakfast nook. All of the kitchen work blends well with the previous paint job. They put in a full day.....but got it all done! And, at a great price! I would highly recommend them and will use them again in the future, should I have any painting and/or staining jobs.

I could not be happier with Tim's work ethic, and his partner. When they say you get what you pay for, it s true! Tim was worth every penny and more in my mind. He even did work i didnt know needed to be done. For instance, there was some window trim that needed to be restained and varnished. He did that as a freebie. I had a lot of scratches on the bedroom doors and some cabinets that needed to be stained. I told him that i could do that, so he went and mixed up a batch of stain for me free of charge. I also had a problem picking out colors, my wife and I thought a neutral beige. So Tim basically went with that family of colors and mixed up different shades for each room of the house. I didnt need to worry about the colors his suggestions were spot on. He also needed to put a thin coat of mud on the whole kitchen and hallway walls because there was wallpaper on it. He did that and texturized it, and it turned out beautiful. There were no drips or mistakes that i could see, he used drop clothes throughout the house. After the job was done he had me walk through and made sure everything was covered. And he touched up any missing spots I could find, which were very few. I chose Tim because of the other reviews he had. He was punctual and answered his phone every time I called, or got back to me that same day! Which i appreciated. He listened to my suggestions and concerns, and answered all my questions. This would have taken me weeks to complete myself, and no where near as good. I will hire Tim again.

Reasonably priced and very responsive, also easy to work with. Numerous quality issues with painting - missed spots, drips, missed fixing some areas of the wall. Sanding left fine dust everywhere throughout the house. Seemed like on the final day they were more concerned with finishing the job than doing a quality job.

Yes day one I dripped and wiped it up. I not only patched approx 100 dents/holes I left it way cleaner than it was when we started. I even cleaned dried chucks of stuff off kitchen paneling that were not to be painter. As another extra I sanded, stained and put polyurethane on a window sill that was not on list.we also painted spindles going up the stairs. Oh, we also removed stairway carpeting so we could get 1 coat on risers, also not my job. I thought with all those nice kids we'd do some extra stuff. I will let our other reviews weight in.

The process went extremely well. Tim answered phone calls, emails, texts within the same day. Kept me updated on when work could start, based on unexpected pending jobs that popped up. But, still started within a few days of original planned start date. Rolls the paint, rather than spraying....which is a much better coverage. Does 2 coats on rooms where color needs to be covered, and primes when needed. Does patching if needed. Prefers to use a primer/color in one paint, which came out just beautiful. But offers paint options of course. Very easy to talk to; listened to my concerns, answered all my questions. Would recommend Tim, and would hire him for our own home. We had Tim paint a home that we are preparing for sale.

Tim and Chuck are the BEST!! They did a beautiful job...and thanks to Tims advice, that crack looks great! (what crack? Lol). Our home is open from living room to the upstairs loft area so that presented a little challenge...they handled it perfectly. They were quick, courteous, and very helpful with color and paint selection too. Everything looks great. And clean up was awesome! I would definitely recommend Bast Painting and will call Tim for any future painting we may need. Thanks guys!!

We were unsure on hiring someone to paint our new home. We thought it would be easy to do it ourselves, but with moving prior to the holidays and wanting to move in fast, we made a wise decision to hire a painter. Tim was very helpful and responsive to our questions and was able to point out everything he would do if we were to hire him. He really understood our vision and what we wanted as color throughout our home. Tim and Chuck did a GREAT job on a short notice and with no doubt will recommend them to anyone looking for a painter. They will be the first people we call on our future painting needs. Job well done!

I was nervous about using a painter, but Tim with Bast Painting was excellent. He was prompt in returning my calls and made sure I fully understood every step of the painting and patching process. He fixed quite a number of defects in the walls, which other places who gave us quotes wanted much more money to do. All the painting was done by him and his partner, which I liked - as I did not want too many people in my house. Even though it was only the two of them they did it in the same amount of time quoted by others. The two of them were effective and efficient. Tim also helped make sure that I got the best price on paint, which was a considerable savings. He also went above and beyond by cleaning light fixtures and painting hot air returns that we had removed. Overall, I was very happy.
Description of Work: Bast Painting patched and painted the complete interior of my home, including ceilings.
