She is really great to work with. I can't believe how much she accomplished in just a few hours. She adapts to your priorities and ideas but offers great suggestions, too. It went well. After getting to know my husband and me and our families biggest issues and needs, she helped us make a list of things to do. We also did a full house tour and discussed problem areas and ways to begin addresses them. We made more notes and discussed everything...even the garage, basement storage closet under the stairs etc. Very thorough job. When our time was up she provided a little more info and encouragement. Very positive experience that helped me make some adjustments in my everyday maintenance routine, etc.
Description of Work: Sustainable Organizing was very empowering and provided lots of ideas and encouragement to make the steps necessary to keep my home more manageable. I loved how the proprietor casted vision for me as to what possible solutions I could find and other tips that influenced me to make positive changes. Her emphasis is on "what works" and what is sustainable i.e. what can I as the one who uses the space all the time actually do every day all the time. Very helpful. I elected to use my appointment as more of an overall house use evaluation rather than a project appointment so I would definitely have her back to help with actual projects in the future.

She was fantastic! I felt absolutely no judgement from her. Her questions and comments were designed to help me decide what I needed to keep or throw out. It has been a few months since she was here and I am still able to keep the areas clean and organized. In addition, she made sure that each time she left (she came twice) that we completely cleaned up the area we had worked on. Everything I was planning on throwing away, went in the garbage; everything I wanted to put away was put away.

I purchased Angie's "Big Deal" with Jen for $99 for three hours. What a great buy. Jen responded quickly to my e-mail and we set up a date for her to come out and work with my husband and me. We walked her around our house showing her our problem areas. She gave us great, yet simple and inexpensive ideas as well as helped us start organizing our chaos of a garage. Jen does not pressure you into buying big expensive organizational sets, but gives you the tools and skills to bring peace to a cluttered home. My husband and I combined two households worth of "stuff" when we got married almost three years ago and have yet to work our way through many of the boxes so what Jen taught us will help us take that first bite out of the elephant. Sustainable Organizing returned my call promptly after I signed up for a special rate through Angie's List. We set up a 3-hr time for about 2 weeks later. I was needing help in identifying priorities in cleaning out and organizing my house after the illness & death of my spouse. I thought the top of my list was a large, cluttered, completely unuseable basement. The difficulty of dealing with my spouse's things was a major problem also. We toured the house and garage & yard. She commented on each area that seemed to need attention and practical suggestions about who would take what. To me there were an overwhelming number of things to address, so we sat down & she had me think about what would give me most pleasure - or reduce most stress - and to prioritize those items. My ADD (over-focusing) tendencies were addressed with methods to break down tasks into 90-minute periods, with "spacer" activities in between to keep the energy & focus high. She also gave me a couple of book references (because I like to read), an online resource for a clip-on timer, and other things to follow up on. She is going to follow up on finding a particular alarm watch for me... at the end of 3 hours we had done mostly talking, which she said was unusual for her. So we found a short task to focus on and she stayed almost another hour to help me clear out that area and load the car with give-away items. I found the session to be very stimulating and encouraging. I will check in with her by email on my progress, because I need that kind of encouragement. I plan to have her return for a hands-on session when I am ready to pack up and load things out the door -- or perhaps sooner, if I feel my motivation slipping. Another area she may be able to help me is in time-organizing. I will keep a journal for a while of how I spend each hour of the day. I suspect she would be very useful in giving me tips on how I can better live the life I want, instead of the life that "just happens to me". I think this process is going to be a life-changer for me.
Description of Work: When my husband & I moved in together 7 years ago, we combined 2 households of things into one house. We always had trouble with utiliizing space well and getting rid of things we didn't truly need. Earlier this year he passed away after a lengthy illness. Now I needed help with the mental and emotional problem of paring things down to size, to live more simply and to part with things that were no longer relevant to me. Jenny was like a Mary Poppins with a satchel full of solutions, a cheerful manner and was a sensitive listener to boot. I feel re-energized, and psyched to continue with what we started.

As a single working mother of a spirited 7 year old, I find time most precious. Between working full time, attending college, and mothering I never seem to find enough time to get things done. I knew I needed some help! After doing some research I decided to contact Jennifer. Any initial reservations I had were immediately washed away when we met. Jennifer assured me she would work with me to find solutions that I could maintain long term. She was so professional and easy going that I knew I had made the right decision. I was concerned about multiple things and had no idea where to start. Jennifer suggested we beginin the basement where I had been storing most of my things. Jennifer helped me to sort through boxes of holiday decorations, random decor, pictures, momentos, and media. She helped me to recognize what what needed, wanted, or unecessary. Jennifer asked all the right questions, and always got me to make the decision. We ended up with boxes of catagorized items for storage that I could easily identify. We also made a bag of things to donate or repurpose, like some of my son's old baby toys. We made enough progress that day that I was motivated to continue the orginization myself. Now that I Jennifer had helped me find the right location to keep the things I needed, it was easy. The next project Jennifer helped me with was the orginization of my closets. In my 1940's home, closet space is very limited and has always been an issue causing me to buy armoires and the like. By the time we were finished with the closet in my bedroom I had freed up a whole storage unit in the basement, which I now use for storing my son's toys. All of my closets hold more than they used to, it seems. Jennifer even took time with my son showing him how to properly put things away in his newly reorganized area! Jennifer also helped me to reorganize my overflowing shed in the backyard. A simple repositioning of some items and donation of a few others created just the space I needed. It has been some time since the reorgnization Jennifer helped me with. However, the orginization continues to this day. She showed me how to create a system that worked for me, and how to maintain it as well. Jennifer helped me get not only my home, but my life back on track. I now have more time than I ever thought possible for my son, myself, even my homework! Jennifer was wonderful to work with, and I would reccommend her to anyone!
Description of Work: Jennifer helped me with the orginization of my entire basement. We cleared it out and made it a useable, funcional space, and designated where the storeage area would be. She also worked with me to clear out my closets and other storage spaces in my home to make better use of the space. Jennifer helped my son with orginization in his bedroom and following the rules of putting things where they belong. The shed in my backyard was also addressed. In all these spaces we looked at items, sorting them into catagories. Some things were kept and stored, some were kept and utilized, some were repurposed, and some I decided to throw away. Jennifer presented all items to me personally and let me make the decision on each. She asked the questions that got me to think about the things in my life and their purpose and importance. Jennifer had some very innovative ideas on how to utilize my small space and how to make it more functional for me.

Jennifer ascertained our priorities and began in the area we suggested. She encouraged us to donate or toss, when it seemed appropriate, and helped us to organized remaining items. Most importantly she helped us view the project differently and not be overwhelmed by the project at hand. We have moved from area to area and are still continuing the process.

She works very hard and very quickly, and is very efficient. She gives good advice about how things should be arranged for easier use. We finished the main room on the first visit and that gave me the boost I needed to keep working between her visits. I now know where each thing is and can find it in an instant. We moved here a few yrs ago and now finally things are put away. I had found this task overwhelming before she came to help me. At the end of each visit she carried everything up and I put it in my car so I could donate it or dispose of it. That showed how much we cleared out each time. I highly recommend her!
