As I have a home warranty with HSA at an annual cost of $430, I informed them of the problem. They arranged for Main Street Mechanical to do the necessary repair. When the plumber arrived and saw the water coming through the ceiling, he proceeded to open up the ceiling in order to determine the precise location of the leak. Lacking any kind of saw, he used a hammer to rip up an unnecessarily large portion of the ceiling., but assured me that HSA would cover the repair. I was then informed that, in addition to the $75 service fee that I had to pay, I would have to pay $200 to have the vanity sink in the adjacent bathroom temporarily removed as there was no access panel which would allow access to the bath tub drain located directly behind the vanity. However after removing the vanity, it was discovered that there was an access panel which would have given the necessary access. Nevertheless, I had to pay the $200. When I called HSA to arrange for the necessary ceiling repair, I was informed that I would have to call a drywall contractor and submit an estimate to HSA for their prior authorization of the repair. I submitted an estimate for $275 which HSA felt was too high. This necessitated a round of discussions with HSA, the contractor and me. Eventually, HSA agreed to reimburse $200 of the $275. I paid in full and promptly submitted a paid receipt for the work. Although, HSA guaranteed that I would be reimbursed within 21 days, One month later, nothing has been received. Whe I called HSA, they said that the reimbursement would be made "tomorrow". To rub salt into the wound, HSA increased the cost of renewal of the home warranty from $430 to $615. Needless to say, I will not be renewing.
Description of Work: Repair of a leaking bath tub drain which was running through my kitchen ceiling and which was covered by a home warranty.

These people don't cover anything. I have been in my house less than 2 months. I was told I needed a warranty so that if anything goes wrong within the first year I could have it repaired. The first time I called them was because the overflow in the bathroom sink did not work. When the water got up to the overflow, it ran on the floor. They told me on the phone without sending a contractor or plumber that the don't cover it. The second time I called them was because of the air condition didn't work. The sent a contractor which cost me $65.00 to be told they don't cover that either. I am now faced with a $2,600.00 repair bill. Thanks for the coverage 2-10.

The only grip I had with them is they tried to charge us an extra $50 because the furnace repairman left for about 30-45 minutes to go pick up the part he needed. We had already paid our $100 deductible and felt this was not right. After talking to them about it and discussing it with a supervisor they agreed to not charge us. If they would not have done that it would have been straight B's. But it sounded like a tactic they might employ often.
Description of Work: They are the warranty company our realtor used and we are covered while our house is on the market for sale. The furnace went out and HSA had it fixed.

After a weekend of troubleshooting a broken doorbell, I realized the sump pump was on same circuit as doorbell, and it was tripping the circuit breaker. This was my second claim with HSA, and while the first one was a complete disaster of failed communication, I decided to initiate the claim via their web site instead of dealing with people who couldn't communicate. The difference was like night and day. I submitted the request, and saw the information of the service company who would be calling me. They called, we set up an appointment, and he took care of it. I couldn't have asked for a smoother transaction. I give them straight A's for this event, but this was 1 of 3 claims that went as expected. I'm on #3 right now, and if they only had my first experience to go by, claim #3 would be par for the course. This claim (#2 - sump pump) was an incredible experience, and it's only fair to give them their kudos for this experience.
Description of Work: Tech came out and replaced the primary sump pump. Backup pump was not covered under contract, so besides diagnosing it as failed, couldn't do anything with it through the warranty claim. I knew the backup pump wasn't covered, so this wasn't a surprise nor inconvenience.

The component was obviously failing, yet HSA said they wouldn't fix anything that wasn't broken, and was merely an "annoyance." It's Christmas morning, and it finally died overnight. So, I get to enjoy my Christmas with no heat. This could have been fixed 10 days ago. I ordered a Carrier Bryant 326628-763 Complete Inducer Motor Kit 5 days ago, and it hasn't arrived yet. I was hoping to have this replaced by myself this week, since HSA isn't cooperating. I don't know what is going to happen. Hopefully HSA will cover it this time. When they do, they'll be paying whatever price Aire Serv charges for the part, and I'll keep my part as a spare for when it fails again. The tech said I'd run into the same issue in 2 more years.
Description of Work: I called because of a draft inducer assembly suddenly making noises on the furnace. The strange chirping sound went away after a couple days, leaving the tech without a sound to diagnose. They contracted Aire Serv to come out and look at it. All he did was loosen the cooling wheel, which then spun noisier than it did during normal operation, and oiled the motor shaft. The sound I called about still never returned.

HSA didn't give us a hassle covering most of the existing electrical/plumbing issues even though it's somewhat unclear in the contract language whether pre-existing problems are covered. The only thing they balked at fixing was a drip from the water heater valve due to the lack of an expansion tank. We ended up paying our own plumber around $250 to install an expansion tank on the hot water line. In retrospect, that was a problem we should have had the seller correct. The quality of the contractors sent by HSA was hit & miss. I would say three were decent to good. One was fair & one was a disappointment. When the fan over our kitchen range failed, they sent out a good repairman & they paid the cost of the new fan & installation (beyond the deductible). When a fan on our air conditioning system started grinding, the guy who came out was incompetent & denied that there was any problem. So we ended up responsible for the full $105 cost of his useless service visit. As a homeowner, I would never purchase a warranty for myself because of the inability to choose my own contractors. I might consider purchasing an HSA warranty as a seller.
Description of Work: My wife & I purchased a house for which the seller provided a one-year HSA warranty. Price is not applicable since the warranty was bought by the seller. The seller paid $399. We made use of the warranty five times during the year after purchasing: twice for minor plumbing & electrical issues that were present when we purchased--& three times for issues that arose later with appliances. Sometimes we contacted HSA by phone & sometimes through their website (which was very easy to navigate). Each time they were very responsive & professional & arranged for a contractor to come out very soon. We were responsible for a $50 "deductible" payment when the contractors came out. Be aware, however, that HSA picks which contractors to send from their own lists; we had no say in even suggesting any contractors. Also, If the contractor didn't find a problem covered by the warranty, we were responsible for the full cost of the contractor's visit, including anything above $50. That only happened once; see below.

The warranty service wasn't bad. I called two times during the year we had the service when our heater had problems. I liked how you could file a request online for service. Its too bad that they chose the company that comes out to perform the service though -- it seemed very hit or miss depending on who they sent. The first time, they sent a guy who really didn't know what he was doing. He was on the phone with someone else the whole time as he tried to diagnose the problem. They eventually sent over someone else to fix the problem, and he fixed it right away. The second time, we had a problem that was traced to the air filter. HSA refused to pay the claim since it was not an "operational failure" of the heater itself. We decided not to renew the warranty service after the year was up -- since you don't have a choice as to the contractor performing the service, and since their yearly fee adds up quickly (it's not like something fails every year), we decided it would be worth it to save the money in an interest-bearing account and use it as needed.
Description of Work: When we bought our house, we asked the sellers to include a home warranty. They chose HSA to do the warranty. During the year we had the warranty, we had to call maintenance people out for our heating system. There is a $50 deductible charged for each problem that you report where they have to send someone out, but that's all you pay if the problem is covered by the warranty (if it's not, you owe the remainder of the bill).

They couldn't tell me anything, what new A/C unit they were going to install, when, how much it would be, they couldn't tell me anything and everyone I talked to told me something different. I got tired of the run around from everyone and decided to use a company. I would never submitted another claim to them or use this home warranty company again.
Description of Work: I bought a house that was already covered by this companies home warranty policy, the previous owners had bought it and it was passed to me when I purchased the house. I used them for one claim; a few days after we moved in the air conditioner died. I called HSA, paid them $50, and they sent out someone of their choosing.

I pay them annually. There is a seventy five dollar deductible every time they send someone out. I called them five to six times about an air conditioner that I was having problems with. They recommended a few people, but no one who fixed the whole problem. The bad thing is that you have to call the people to do the work they don't. They are not that good about taking care of issues.

Not very well. We have had a warranty through 2-10 since purchasing our home, just over one year now. We had to use their service last summer for an AC failure, and did not experience much difficulty with them at that time. Customer service was adequate and the problem was resolved fairly quickly. This spring we again experienced a failure with our heating and AC unit. Again, we used our warranty service to try and correct it. I don't know if they have had a significant turnover in customer service personnel or something, but our experience this year has not been good. We made our initial claim in early April, when we had not heard from the company assigned to do the work, we contacted 2-10 to request a update. The customer service representative assured us we would be contacted within 24 hours with a status update. We did not hear from 2-10 until I contacted them again, nearly a week later. Again, I was assured that someone would contact the contractor assigned the job and we would be contacted within 24 hours with a update. Once again, around a week went by with no contact from the contractor or 2-10. This process went on for over six weeks with me escalating to speaking with at least two managers to voice my displeasure with both the contractor and 2-10's customer service. Finally, I requested to speak with whomever I would have to notify that I was contemplating legal action for breach on contract. That finally resulted in someone calling me and providing some manner of feedback. During this process, from about the fourth week, I asked to have specific information recorded in my records of this claim, such as a request to never have this particular contractor assigned to me again. I had to submit a claim last night, as my AC went out again. As I was dealing with the customer service representative it was obvious that none of the information I had asked to be retained was, and they even had notes that were not correct or accurate. Hopefully this claim will be handled more professionally than the previous one, but based on the information recited to me last night based on my previous claim I am not holding my breath. I do know that if their service does not improve over my last experience with them, I will be shopping for a new warranty service once this contract expires.

We purchased our home in March 2007 with a HSA warranty provided by the seller. We contacted HSA about our furnace failure in November 2007 and they quoted a price of $562.00 to replace the furnace, if they performed the work. The contract allows for up to $1,500.00 aggregate coverage. This price was for a lower-end PAYNE furnace with a 80% efficiency rating and NO allowance for the required duct work and chimney liner. HSA offered to perform the required duct work modifications and chimney liner through their contractor for an additional $800.00. We questioned their VERY LOW price/cost for the furnace and the the quality of their contractor and they replied that they get a good price on quantity purchasing. Phillips Heating quoted a price of $2,886.00 for a 90% efficient RUUD furnace with all installation costs included and a 10 year warranty. In addition, HSA subtracted a $50.00 per trade call, deductible and we are left with $2,374.00 out of pocket expense.
Description of Work: During a routine furnace inspection this fall, Phillips Heating determined that the Heat Exchanger in our 17 year old furnace was cracked and presented a Carbon Monoxide danger to our home. We opted to go with Phillips Heating instead of the HSA contractor, whom we never heard of, because of Phillip's past performance and their high recommendation on Angie's List. Phillips replaced the old furnace with a new 90% efficient RUUD model and performed the needed duct work modifications and chimney liner as required. They did a very professional and comprehensive installation job.

AHS only works with one roofing company in Indiana. South Bend is more than 3 hours away, which is why we were charged $100 for an estimate. If in South Bend, we wouldnt be charged. AHS indicated that was the roofer fee but the roofer indicated AHS TOLD THEM to charge us this. The reason for a home warranty is because a buyer of a home doesnt know what theyre getting into when they purchase a home. If the claim will be denied every time the previous homeowner did something incorrectly, then virtually all claims will be denied, and it becomes only an appliance warranty. In the Chicago Angies list, and on-line, I have seen similar complaints. Also, forcing a homeowner to call you first, then limiting the contractors to make $$ for estimates is a bad faith practice, and Im considering going to the states attorney and the DOI to file a formal complaint. The roofing contractor they had do the estimate also DOES NOT do gutters so is useless to us. DO NOT USE AHS.
Description of Work: The sellers purchased a home warranty for us (the buyers) with this company. The sellers spent about $345 on the warranty. The sellers had a new roof installed last summer. So the roof started leaking and sagging into the garage. As per the requirements, we called AHS who sent a contractor FROM SOUTH BEND who indicated the drip guard wasnt installed with the roof. Drip guards are not required in the building code in Indy. He also noticed someone had nailed in gutters which contributed to the leak. They charged us $100 to come out, even though we were told we needed to call AHS first and had to have their people look at it, and AHS denied the claim even though their brochure indicates roof leaks are covered for the buyer. They indicated due to faulty installation of both roof (but roof was installed fine) and gutters, they wont cover and were out $100 and have to find our own contractor.

The service rep who took my call indicated that the contractor would contact me within 24 hours of my call to set up an appointment. That didn't happen. I had to call 2-10 again later the next day and get the phone number for the contractor so I could call them myself and schedule a visit. I couldn't afford to wait. But the plumbing contractor couldn't come out until the middle of the following week. I told the plumbing company's service rep that I had a slow leak in one of the drain pipes in the crawlspace. She seemed to think that it wasn't urgent but said that if the tech could get out earlier that they would let me know--but they arrived the day of my appointment. But who knows what might've happened or how bigger the problem might've gotten because of the wait? Lucky for me, it didn't.
Description of Work: I have a one-year home warranty with 2-10. The contract costs $345 and each service visit from a contractor that they assign to me carries an $85 deductible. I recently called on them about a leaky pipe and they assigned me to a plumbing company. While I'm still under contract with 2-10, I will continue to use them for any home repairs that I can't handle myself. But I would rethink renewing my contract with them since I wasn't happy with the plumbing company's work, even though their technician managed to find the problem after a few missteps. It says a lot about the business partners that 2-10 chooses to align itself with. I'll have to see how any future work is handled before I decide to go with 2-10 again next year.

I am really happy with Home Security. They are like additional insurance for appliances. You have to pay the first $50 to whoever comes out to fix your appliances. They take care of anything wrong over $200. We had a plumbing problem and they took care of that too. This particular experience was nice. They were trying to track down the parts for the dishwasher and come to find out they do not make them anymore. They ended up buying us a new dishwasher, which we thought was great. I pay them $440 a year. I only paid the $50 deductible for this visit. It was great.

I called the 800 number when my frige went out and they gave me emergency status because I was loosing all the food in my refigerator and it was costing me money. They found a service vendor who came out the same day at about 4:30pm and then came back and had it fixed by the next morning, 9am. Home Security of America's customer service was very friendly and they explained the process of submitting a claim completely. I only had to call two times, once to report the failure and once to speak with an adjuster who gave me a complete break-down of how much they were going to cover and what my part was - my part only ended up being my $60 deductible!

I'm upset because it says that this appliance is covered and I was told on the phone that it was covered. I could've used the $75 to go toward a new appliance.
Description of Work: No work was performed. I called HSA to see if something (a ceiling fan) was covered. They told me that it was covered, that I would just have to pay a $50 fee to the serviceman when they came. The serviceman came and checked it out. He called HSA to tell them what he found, which was exactly what I had told them. HSA told him that they did not cover it and I had to write this guy a check for $75 instead of $50. I wrote this guy a $75 check to tell me that HSA wouldn't pay to have it fixed.

We used HSA's plumber to evaluate our problem and found that HSA would cover the cost of trying to flush out the pipes even though it was not likely to be a long term solution but they would only cover up to $500 for replacement of the pipes to fix the problem. The plumbing company tried to advocate for us and it was taken to a higher level representative within HSA but they were unwilling to cover the repair. HSA interpreted the wording of the policy precisely and we were charged, and if you study the policy you find that although plumbing is a "covered item", the exclusions preclude plumbing repairs accessed within the walls from being covered in excess of $500. HSA fulfilled their legal obligation and covered a small faucet repair and the $500, but we did not feel the annual cost of the warranty was worth the small coverages it provided.
Description of Work: Our hot water pipes became obstructed and needed repair. The company that HSA sent to assess the situation found that they needed replaced. HSA only covered a fraction of the cost due to exclusions within the policy about plumbing accessed within the walls of the home.

Very poor, they pointed to the fine print that says you must call them first, which we would have done if there was not water continuing to come out of our water heater into the basement. They would not even retroactively evaluate the cost and determine if they would cover a part of it!

They sent a plumber out who cut a hole in the drywall to fix the plumbing leak. And then he told us we would have to get another contractor to patch it. 2-10 sent a person for drywall who was supposed to repair and restore the ceiling. The drywaller told me that they do not pay for this, so he patched the area that they cut, but did not replace or repair another area/ceiling that had water damage. He rough finished it and didn't do the complete repair or paint. I called 2-10 and they said I had paid extra for my warranty and it should have been covered. I spoke with another person and a manager, and they promised a call back and to send someone out. I haven't heard from anyone there and it has been about 2.5 weeks. Everad Ragoonan, manager, and Kory, supervisor, have both promised to follow up and haven't. They have been very unprofessional and have not fulfilled their part of the contract. Kory was the only one who even spoke to me like I was human.

If I had not had HSA's coverage available my husband and I would not have been able to purchase our home. The house was built in 1929 and many of the appliances were older and not all the plumbing and electrical lines had been updated. In the first year, I would have to say HSA saved us about $2000.00 in replacement and repair costs. I just renewed I coverage and plan to keep renewing. They used great companies and their CSR's are always helpful and polite. They rock!
