The pool issue was terrible. HSA tech called us back two weeks later and said it would cost us $100 for him to look at our problem. Before I set anything up any thing I asked if they were going to fix my leak. I was informed that the warranty only covers the pool pump and not structure, plumbing, filter, or cover. I did not have them come to my home. We paid the $8,000 repairs out of pocket. New pool pump cost $250 to replace. Today I called because our roof is leaking. I was told a tech would call me back. I then told them the story of the pool incident and how long it took for a call back. With our warranty expiring in 10 days I wanted a name to call Monday morning. I was then immediately told that my roof was not covered, but my doorbell and other minor items were. Even if my roof was covered, it would only be for $750. I was floored!!! The rep then tried to talk me into extending this worthless warranty, and add more options. I could not be more disgusted with a service. I let them know I would writing this review. I called my realtor to warn her about selling this to any further clients. I would not pay for anything with this company. They will take your money, send you a pamphlet, and then help you if you need something fixed that costs less than your deductible. I hope I have saved someone from the same problems that we have had. Find a real warranty company and ask a lot of questions.
Description of Work: RUN AWAY FROM THIS WARRANTY!!!!!!! First time we called was for a leak in our pool, which we specifically had the pool option added. Most recently called because of the leak in our roof. Absolutely worthless for both problems.

The first was on September 5, 2013. We smelled something awful in the basement and upon visual inspection, saw sewage was coming up through the drain. We paid Down's Septic $160.00 on 9/5/2013, when they came out to the house to clean. We worked with HSA and all work was approved but for some reason, HSA only refunded $60.00. Our understanding was that this was a $75 deductible charge and there is $15 due to us. This past Saturday night (9/14/2013), we were walking out to attend a wedding reception when we smelled sewage again in the house. We did not get rain, use excessive amounts of water, and this time, we knew the lines were clear as they had just been addressed on 9/5. Sadly, the basement ended up covered in sewer backup - raw waste coming up from the main house drain again. To reiterate, this same drain was snaked on 9/5/2013 and the lines were clear, the septic system was checked and cleared by the company, and the HSA approved the treatment. On September 15, 2013, we made numerous calls to the HSA for an emergency plumber and septic repair service. Four hours later, we were approved to call our own service because their contracted 24 hour companies were not 24 hour companies and were not available until Monday, 9/16/2013. Sunday, September 14th Allen Drain came to the house and snaked the line from the yard. The drains, stacks, and lines were all cleared by company. The service technician, confirmed on the phone with HSA the problem and repair. HSA approved the claim. This time the cost was $250.00 as it was an emergency service on the weekend. On Sunday, September 16th, we called the HSA to ask for a service call to figure out the root of the problem instead of calling every week when raw sewage is sitting in our basement. The service representative told me that is not an option, HSA is not responsible for preventative work. Our stance is that this was a recall of the previous work because obviously the line was not cleared on 9/5/2013 by their approved service technician. The property damage in the basement is worse than before since we put items back down on the floor thinking the line was clear. We are seeking your advice on how to approach the home warranty people and maybe even how Howard Hanna can look into this problem with the existing house plumbing and the effectiveness of HSA and the neglect that will only further ruin our home and its plumbing and foundation. We called and requested a service call to examine the problem so that we are not calling every week as sewage seeps into our living space but to figure out the actual problem especially when the approved work is not getting the job done. Here are emails from me to realtor: I spent 45 minutes on the phone with them regarding the reimbursement - the receipt was very clear, I sent it to them, I also just emailed you the copy of the 9/17/13 email with the same receipt. The issue they told me was the "new cap" which was ok'd on speaker phone by the HSA while I listened and the two technicians in my home when we called on 9/5/13. I want to make this very clear: HSA is not a company I trust, and now they lied to you. I'm swamped with school work and will try to get some time to get a handle on how we will move forward with HSA. We also requested a manager to call us and set up a time for 7:30 PM on 9/17/13. No call, no answer. email to Support Specialist on 9/25/13: I do not have time to correct HSA. I have a house with a serious septic problems. The issue right now is that I want the $250.00 service call paid, in its entirety, from Allen Drain on 9/14/2013. This was a recall of work done on 9/5/13 that we already paid the entire bill (because HSA did not reimburse as required) on 9/5/2013 for Down's. The bigger issue we want discussed is the existing plumbing issues in the house. It is negligent for HSA to state that "the problem is fixed". How is is fixed if there is a sewage back up within 10 days of a line cleaning? The property damage and residual damage and cleaning costs are in the thousands of dollars not to mention the HEALTH of my family. Support specialist email to me: Hi M,One of our Service Support Specialist will be contacting you today to review the approvals and reimbursements that have been processed for your claims. Today, I called HSA for the phone call a support specialist was to call us after 5:30 PM. I called a 5:47 PM. Mackenzie (male) reluctantly transferred me to "Don". I asked Don if he was familiar with my file as I do not have two hours to go over this every time I call. He said no. I asked him to call me when he looks over the file as it is long. He said he was off the clock at 5PM and not interested in reading an hour long file. Then, Ashley, from HSA called on the other line. She was not familiar with my issues either. She told me that she was asked to call and explain that the deductible would be corrected and the house main line would need a camera inspection otherwise any further claims would NOT be approved. I asked her explain contract page 3: ." 3. DEDUCTIBLE: you will pay the $75.00 deductible for each separate trade call. If multiple visits are required for the same repair you will not be charged an additional deductible. Trade call means each visit by an authorized repair contractor. The deductible shall apply to all approved costs including service call charges. If service work performed under this contract should fail, then HSA will make the necessary repairs without an additional deductible for a period of 90 days on parts and 30 days on labor. In the event that the failure is not covered, you are responsible for all charges incurred." Ashley told me "i promise to call you back tonight" after she figures out the issue. I recorded the conversation and am waiting for the return call. I am also filing an official complaint with the Ohio Insurance Commission.

The chimney needed to be fixed also, but the roof was clearly faulty on it's own. Once we tarped the roof there were no more leaks. The contractor tried to explain to them that the roof was the issue, and happened to mention that the chimney also needed work. Once they heard the word chimney they refused to listen to his case, said they don't pay for chimneys, and twisted everything he said from that point. The contractor was furious and frusterated with the way they were misconstruing everything he said, basically accusing him of lying, and closed the case. Every time I tried to call to speak with a manager they kept me on hold for long periods of time, and refused to help me. I told them to send out one of their people so we can show them the roof is leaking, but they don't do that. So they are denying us the money they owe us. Not customer friendly. Our sump pump also broke, costing us $1400, and they will only cover $200. They are a useless warranty. There is no warranty with them. THEY ARE THE WORST> NEVER USE THEM. My sump pump was fixed a month ago and I still haven't gotten my measly $200 check.
Description of Work: This home warranty center had no problem taking our money, but when we needed them because of a leak in the roof they refused to honor the contract. We had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket because they did not think the roof leak was due to the roof, they thought it was the chimney.

They are very good with honoring their contract, which is hard to come by with home warranty companies. When we call, they are very quick to get a repairman to our home. All the contractors that they use are very trustworthy and efficient.
Description of Work: We use HSA for our home warranty. We have the 5 star upgrade with them. They cover all of our home appliances, pool, plumbing, electrical, hot water heater, a/c, garage door, and even coverage towards the roof. Most recently they have replaced our air conditioner for us.

We called the company in regards to the main waterline coming into our house. We had a leak coming through the basement wall and could hear the pipe running even though the gauge wasn't counting and we had no water on. We had skimmed the contract and saw "waterlines" listed (missed the "interior" part) so called them and described the problem. After describing the situation they were happy to set us up with a plumber to come take a look and write an estimate. Within in 5 minutes of the plumber arriving he said the claim would be denied. Before he had even left I had an email saying it was denied It was such a quick decision I was confused on why they even bothered sending a guy out and why we couldn't have been told that over the phone after describing the issue. The next hit was when we were told that we would still have to pay the $100 deductible. This is about as close to being robbed as I have ever been. After a call to them they told me they would have to have the supervisor review the case and they would call me back. An entire day later I still had not received a call so I called them again. I spoke to the same person who went to check with her "supervisor" and after several minutes came back and said they would not waive the deductible. I asked to speak to her supervisor and after a few minutes another women came on the phone. I re-explained the situation and after a couple minutes of her telling me that there was nothing she could do, I asked her to provide me with the recorded call (my wife had made the initial call) and she said that I would need to talk to the supervisor who reviewed the case ( I thought that was who the first lady was transferring me to), but they weren't available at the moment and would have to call me back. I have called back another 2 times since then (left a voice mail with the "supervisor" and still have not had any resolution. They seem to be passing me around each time without anyone who cannot actually provide any additional information Still unresolved and hoping they actually call me back this time around.

Response from Home Security of America Inc
HSA has tried locating this customer but they are not in our systems. If the customer has a different property address that has the warranty provided by HSA we would encourage them to share it so we are able to review the claim. However, at this time we do not believe this is a customer of HSA. Thank you.

Every time anybody comes up to your house you have to pay a deductible and the hour is $75 to the technician. Home Security of America had somebody over within a day. We had ordered a part and it took 2 weeks to get the part. He came out, checked out what was wrong, what he diagnosed it as being and went back to the company and told them what we needed. They said okay, ordered the part and then they billed the company. It could have cost us about $400. Our realtor have used them with other clients and she's hearrd of how well they worked with home buyers so we went with them. I've called them twice and they saved me probably $1,000.

I inherited an HSA Home Warranty with the purchase of my condominium 10 months ago. When the 5 1/2yr. old Kenmore Clothes Washer/Dryer which I also inherited became off-balance, I contacted HSA, who referred me to A&E Factory Service. I scheduled a Service Appointment for the next morning, and was STOOD-UP, with NO NOTICE. When I called them, they stated that my appt. "...had been cancelled." When I asked why, they stated that "...it had been entered incorrectly."...??!!? I re-scheduled for the next morning, as they were, of course, 'all booked-up' for that same afternoon. The Service Tech. arrived late the next morning, and diagnosed my washer as having a broken spring. He ordered a set of 4 new springs, and a new base, and established a new appointment for one week away, by which time he was sure I would have received the new parts. Two Service Techs. arrived on the scheduled date, one week later, and we collectively discovered that the Base, an important part among those ordered, had NOT yet arrived. When he checked via phone, he was told that the missing Base was "...on BACKORDER," with NO ESTIMATE of when it might arrive! Two e-mails sent to HSA Home Warranty by this time had gone unanswered... After a visit to a laundromat, my roommate and I decided, two days later, to simply purchase a new washer/dryer combo at Best Buy. We did so on 4/20/13, at a cost of about $2,100.00, with Extended Warranties. Exactly two days later, the 'Backordered' Base for the Kenmore was suddenly delivered...!! So the Base arrived four days after we were told that it was "...on backorder at Whirlpool," and three days after we ordered our new LG combo at Best Buy. NOTHING SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THAT, IS THERE?!?!? I notified HSA Home Warranty of these events, and told them to cancel A&E Factory Service, as the broken Kenmore unit was now gone, to it's final (unhappy) resting place. Meanwhile, A&E began an amazing series of harassing phone calls, wanting us to re-schedule the repair appointment. At least some of these were AUTOMATED phone calls, placed at random times, and, over a span of 8 days, totaled 25 CALLS (as well as a couple of unscheduled visits, where notes were left on my mailbox)!!! It does not seem to have occurred to anyone that I WORK FULLTIME, and taking personal calls while at work is 'frowned-upon.' When HSA tried to call during the day, my roommate answered, but they would not speak to her... We offered that the repair parts could be returned, if HSA cared to furnish us with return shipping labels. This time, UPS showed up unannounced, leaving a note, and when my roommate called them back, they were evasive, and rude, hanging-up on her. Eventually, they took the repair parts back. I wrote HSA a detailed letter, requesting to be reimbursed for $1,000.00, roughly half of what I had spent. Initially, they agreed to $367.00, but later, after examining my purchase receipts, and threats from me to enlist the help of my local Milwaukee Area Better Business Bureau, as well as contacting my State Attorney General, they raised this to $500.00 reimbursement, which was more satisfactory. I did receive this check roughly FIVE WEEKS later; I waited exactly four weeks, received a letter from their Sales Dept., urging me to RENEW my Home warranty (?!), then e-mailed them a reminder about the promised check. HSA proved apathetic, for the most part, failing to answer several e-mails I sent them through their own site, on which I am registered. Their chosen subcontractor, "A&E Factory Service," is a bunch of inept clowns. With the exception of the Service Tech. who came initially, to diagnose the problem (for which I paid a $75.00 Deductible Service Charge, never refunded...), they proved unreliable and irritating. The listing on my bank account for the A&E Service Call was "SEARS Roebuck, Grand Rapids, MI," and don't look in the phone book for A&E, they are NOT THERE (I wonder why...?!?). The $400.00 with which the former owner of my condo purchased my Home Warranty was, therefore, eventually returned to me, though this did not fully cover all of my expenses. If you are ever faced with the prospect of doing any business with HSA Home Warranty, or A&E Factory Warranty, SAVE YOUR MONEY, AND AVOID THE FRUSTRATION...I ADVISE YOU AVOID BOTH OF THESE POORLY-RUN BUSINESSES.

Approximately $500 plus worth of repairs completed in 2 days for one $55 deductible. The repairman did not clean up used screws and small pieces of sheet-rock and dust afterwards. Also, the repairman accidentally tripped a breaker and did not push the GFI reset button on the refrigerator outlet completely in which caused the refrigerator and freezer to defrost spoiling our milk and ice-cream. Otherwise, no other problems. I highly recommend home warranty service companies such as HSA in this day and age of over-priced, fly-by-night plumbing and electrical companies. I've had HSA for many years and recently had them cover my mother's new home because she has been scammed so much in the past 5 years by plumbing and electrical companies. Many people do not realize that home-warranty service is available for any home - it is not just for new homes or newly purchased homes.

We pay them a premium every year almost like an insurance premium. Then we can all and they will send people from their list to come and work on different parts of our house. Another company has actually done air conditioning work on our house; we have to pay a $50 service call for them to come and do the work. Sometimes it is hard to get in touch with them and get somebody to the house. They have a limited list of contractors that we can use for work on our home.

Note: here are some guidelines for using HSA: 1) always call them first before calling anyone else or they will not cover you. 2) try not to talk with a manager named Sherrie. She is, shall we say, less than kind. 3)HSA is open 24 hours a day every day, even holidays, which we did not know. 4) try to use your own company for any work being done. HSA uses a franchise company for HVAC that gets very poor ratings on Angie's List. And when I called the franchise, the man who answered said he left the franchise because they were too unethical for him! 5) another good reason to use your company for AC or heating install is that your company will warranty the unit. If HSA puts in the unit, the unit is NOT covered except by HSA and the short warranty from the AC unit...and I wouldn't trust HSA or their HVAC companies for warranties. The story: Wrongly, I assumed that on July 3 I should try to get our customary company out here to fix our AC before July 4. (This was during a pretty bad heat wave). Our company determined that the system was frozen. After the system melted enough to be inspected, they added six pounds of freon and said there was a hole somewhere in the coils. I told them to stop work, that I would call HSA before they went further. Work done was for $490. I called HSA first thing on July 5. Turns out I should have called HSA first, even if they could not have done the work right away. They refused to pay for the work done by our company on July 3 since I had not called them first. In fact, HSA's manager 'Sherrie' told me that having no AC "wasn't their problem" and that I"'should use fans". Really. I won't share the rest of what she said. Just avoid her. Our HVAC guy heard every word she said. He was appalled. So document everything. Our choices from HSA are: 1) have a new cooling unit placed in a 20 year old system without a warranty, or 2) take a payout amount that covers only a third of a new system. We cannot get the money for the payout until we purchase a new system and show HSA the receipt, at which point they will cut a check. The good news is that HSA's payout amount is good forever, or so they wrote to me in an email. If you are purchasing a home, consider using American Home Shield or better rated warranty company...use it for negotiating. Why do realtors persist in using HSA? I have read that home warranty companies cut deals with realty companies. There are sites that tell you what to watch out for, like my buyer broker blog and others. All I can say is, watch out. Stay tough and document everything.
Description of Work: HSA was included in the purchase of our home as a one-year warranty. Our AC home unit went out on July 3. Our HVAC company came out and determined that the system was frozen. After the system was working again, it was determined that there were holes in the system causing freon leakage. I called HSA on July 5, after our initial visit from our own HVAC company to tell them the problem. I had no idea HSA was open on holidays.

They've always been very prompt in getting back often within the hour, if I haven't gotten to them directly, and taking the claim and then actually schedule the repair visit.
Description of Work: They warranty all the appliances and the mechanical things, and basically if it breaks, for a $100 deductible, regardless of what happens, they either repair it or replace it.

Horrible. They are a juvenile, unapologetic, and heartless company.
Description of Work: DO NOT USE 2-10 HOME BUYER WARRANTY!!!! They will go out of their way to NOT help you with your claim(s) and ensure they never have to spend a dime on your warranty. Pulling teeth to get any help from them doesn't even scratch the surface with how horrible this company is.

They cover plumbing, roofing, electrical, appliances and so on. Just about anything inside your home that could go wrong. It can be somewhat of a hassle to get the work done, but it saves so much money is more than worth it! Occasionally we haven't been happy with the companies they have sent but they are willing to send someone else. Their policy is that if something can't be fixed, they will replace it with something of equal value. We are getting ready to move to the Atlanta, GA area an will be keeping them. We've found that when we first signed up with the real estate agent the rates were lower than when we renewed, but they still saved us a lot of money so it was very worth it.
Description of Work: We bought our home about 8 years ago and have used their services since then.

Somebody come out and look out whatever is not working if they determine that it requires repair or replacement they arrange with a contractor. They would either repair or replace whatever is not working. The sum total of your obligation is to pay the annual premium per event. I have had asked them in to look various things that have stopped working and they responded quickly. They either have somebody out to in case of the stove, they had it repaired, for dishwasher and microwave they replace and also for hot water heater they replace it. I have gotten value for money.
Description of Work: I used Home Security of America Inc for home warranties. I got standard warranty when I bought the house four years ago. They had their general coverage you can expand that coverage to include various other things. I have expanded coverage to include my well and septic system.

Whenever we called them up, they would resolve the problem or provide the part. If I have any more problems, they come right out. The cost is very reasonable.
