Big Fish Contracting

Excellent job done on a 20 side-by-side condominium assoc (40 units). The schedule was maintained even with weather issues. The employees were all respectful and kept their work areas clean and safe.

Our project was quite large. It consisted of roof, gutters, siding, windows, garage door, porch rail, chimney chase cover, and sliding back door. We wanted to make sure we worked with a company that would have the ability, and experience, to put all of that together. Out of all the companies that we considered to perform the services it seemed that Big Fish Contracting had the best reviews, although they came in on the high side of the bidding process. Initially, Erik was very responsive to our needs as it came to picking colors and styles. He supplied information, samples, and examples of homes that they had completed for us to see. However, there was an overall lack of clarity as it came to the design of the exterior. (We had a hard time visioning what it would look like). Another issue was, from the beginning, we had wanted to replace the rail that encompassed our porch as part of the project. We received a little pushback on that decision by Erik in the suggestion that we should leave it off. But we were firm that we wanted it. The project began just over a month later with the roof being replaced in one day. Then just a couple of days later siding removal started. About a week after that, the windows came and were installed over a series of days. Not too long after the Garage door was installed, and gutters installed. Two of the installed windows had manufacturing defects and had to be replaced. Many of the windows had seal problems. Erik facilitated a timely resolution with the window supplier / manufacturer to correct these deficiencies. Because of these window problems the project was delayed about a month. In a matter of about two months they had completed 90% of the job. Then things went south. At this point in time there were many items on the “punch list” that had not been completed. (Nail heads not covered, caulking, some porch trim boards not installed, railing, chimney chase cover, etc.). When we asked about a porch rail Big Fish acted like we had planned to leave it off. (even though there is a note on the proposal to put one on, and we had communicated as such). So, we made some decisions on a porch rail and planned to move ahead and have it painted and installed. It was about this time (end of second month) that we received an invoice for the entire job. Erik and I met about three weeks later and I gave him 90% payment of the invoice in consideration that the job was not yet complete. To which he agreed, and promised a quick finish on the project. By the third month into the project the railing showed up. It had been painted very poorly and after installation the paint started to flake off. It became obvious that the addition of the rail had not been incorporated into the design of the siding as there was a significant alignment issue of a piece of rail and siding that did not align correctly. We were told that it would get fixed (Rail and paint). Nothing got done. In the beginning of the fifth month (after several calls and email inquiries) I was assured by Erik that this same “Punch list” of items (Including the rail) would be dealt with promptly. Nothing got done. Over the next 27 days several calls and emails were sent by us asking about the timeline of the project All of which were ignored. Until, at the end of the fifth month, Erik finally replied via email that the items would be completed, apologized at his lack of communication, and that his crew had started another job, that’s why they had not been out to finish. In the beginning of the seventh month nothing had been done. I emailed Erik. This time he responded right away and said that he did not know that the punch list had still not been completed, and they would get someone out there. Shortly after this email they came and fixed the misaligned trim piece and took the porch rail to be repainted. In the middle of eighth month I emailed Erik about when we could expect to get the porch rail on and get the rest of the “punch list” items finished. After several emails and calls that went unanswered for ten days, he finally got back to me that the railing was “currently in my shop and painted” and goal was to be “completed by the end of next week”. Two weeks go by ….nobody shows up. I send Erik an email asking if I could come and pick up the railing and install it myself. It goes unanswered. Again, I spend the next week calling, emailing, and even showing up at his place of business to get an answer. It is now the middle of the ninth month into the project when he finally calls me back. During our conversation it comes out that the railing is NOT painted and ready to go. It also becomes readily apparent that the story he is telling me about what he has been doing to get the railing ready is not the truth. I told him we were done, I will finish the project on my own, and fired him. So in the end, same old contractor story…..pay them and you get ignored. I would caution anyone doing business with this company to stay aware of what they are accomplishing every day, and do not pay them a significant amount until EVERYTHING is finished. There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER that these last items could not have been finished in a timely manner. I am currently finishing an extensive “punch List” of items left undone. As I have been working on these, I have unfortunately found several other deficiencies that I was not aware of in the beginning. Very disappointing ending from a company that seemed have a sterling reputation.

Got a bid for a new roof. Contact was very professional and helpful, even calling back with new information about financing options. Ultimately went with a different company, but not because of any problem with Big Fish. Only negative thing I can say was he

Big Fish was fantastic. The price quoted was in the middle of the pack but the work was exceptional. This wasn't an easy job and their attention to detail was flawless. Communication was great all the way from quoting through to invoicing after the job. A great crew that was considerate, worked hard and left a spotless work site when they were done. Will absolutely consider Big Fish for other projects in the future.

It was very good. We just opted not to have our roof replaced at all at that time. They were very prompt at coming out. The quote was $1800 for a garage roof.

The guy came literally with a bucket of tar slapped it around on the roof and it did not fix the leak. I have since then had to redo my entire roof.

The job was done in a matter of hours. Rain gutter guards and chimney caps were also put on a couple of days after the roof. All was well communicated to me and it went very well.

Both projects went very well. They were very helpful in laying out and designing the basement area that was totally unfinished to a finished lovely usable space. We are very pleased. They also contracted for custom cabinets to fit my niche around a wine refrigerator that looks great. They helped me pick up out the materials that work well in this house. All representatives of the company are professional and trustworthy. I would use them again. In fact they are doing an even larger project at my daughters house and I know it will turn out great. They stand by their work too

Erik and his crew did an outstanding job on our project. Very trustworthy and professional. The entire team was great to work with. They were very courteous and did a great job of cleaning up.

Big Fish was quick to give us an estimate while we were working through the price on the sale of a home. It helped us determine what adjustments needed to happen to the price. Once we had an accepted offer, he was the first of 3 contractors to give us a bid and his prices were very good! The roof was done 3 days after closing. AMAZING PROCESS! So many workers.... old shingles raining down. Very fast due to large crew and not a shred of old roofing left behind on the ground. Great work. After several rains... it appears like good work too! Looks great. We really liked Eriks honesty and approach. Our work was actually slightly cheaper due to not needing decking. When does that happen? We have hired Erik to help us with some gutter work that we will do this fall. We highly recommend Big Fish!!!

I had a leak that I wanted them to check out on. There was nothing to dislike. It occurred while I was at work. So, I wasn't actually there when they did the work. It took two or three weeks for them to come out. They did what they said they would do and the leak stopped. That made me very happy.

He did the inspection and we were having a leak. He told us point blank that he couldn't tell by looking at it where the leak was. We also used them to replaced the roof and it turned out well. He was very nice to work with. The price was reasonable and I like his honesty and I did not feel I was stuck with them. It showed a lot of professionalism.

They did excellent work, they were prompt it's been about a year and the roof and gutters are still in good shape.

When he visited the home, he was very professional and appeared to know his stuff. He investigated the aspects of the roof that were causing concern, and seemed to feel he could do the repairs. He said he would write up a quote, and I would receive it in a few days. I never heard another word from him! I called once and left a message, still nothing!!! Still waiting......

We asked several companies for an estimate on replacing missing shingles on our roof. This company was prompt and professional with their response. It was a tough decision to select a company based on cost and availability to do the work. We chose another company, but would consider this company again if we need work in the future.

Erik got up on my roof to inspect a couple areas I was concerned about. Part of roof is flat with a rubber membrane cover and I was also wondering about the chimney and vent flashing. He took care of a couple of minor issues, which was great since I don't want to be climbing around up there.

Everything went well. They were on time and finished on time. Everything turn out real well. I have nothing negative to say about them.

Very professional and helpful but was the most expensive of 3 bids. I am sure they are well worth the price but it was over our budget.

I contacted this guy to get a simple quote for wrapping my existing garage door trim with aluminum coil stock. He charges more then double than other contractors that I spoke with. I guess that is his nice way of telling a new customer, "I am too busy for your small job. Go somewhere else." Buyer beware.

Work was done without my presence. It was done fast and we were satisfied about the results.

They did repair work on fascia. It was a small job, but it was done correctly. They were very nice and told us what they were doing and when they would be done doing it. I feel like the price was reasonable for the service they did. We would recommend their services to others!

They came in and recommended that I redo my roof, and when I talked to other people, they said that my roof did not have too many problems, and could last another 5-10 years. I just wanted a repair and I ended up doing it myself. They were very responsive, professional, and punctual. I would probably not use them in the future, I didn't exactly trust them, when they said that I need a new roof.

Big Fish Contracting were very nice. His estimate was a little too expensive for me. But he was nice and very professional. He probably does a good job.

They were on the higher end cost wise but they showed up with a big crew and got it done very nicely and very efficiently. Left no mess behind.
