Description of Work: I had a list of varied jobs for Dick to complete. The most urgent one was installing a window air conditioner in my 84-year-old house. I tried to get other handymen but they were too busy or just didn't return my calls. I am outside of Dick's travel range and must pay for travel time but I have learned that it is well worth that charge. Dick got back to me promptly and arrived with all of the needed materials--some unexpected. I had e-mailed my list of jobs, adding any that I thought of after scheduling the appointment. My jobs were installing a window AC, replacing light bulbs in hard-to-manage ceiling fixtures, installing roller window shades, installing and integrating a remote outside thermometer, adjusting a cabinet door lock, and repairing a table lamp. I had wanted a porch ceiling light replaced but Dick saw that the current fixture is not up to Code and suggested that I hire an electrician to upgrade the wiring and install the new fixture. I appreciated that level of professionalism. Dick works efficiently using his hours well.

Description of Work: In order to have some work done in my basement, I needed to have the basement steps removed and then re-assembled. Dick did both jobs for me.

Description of Work: Dick and I spoke on the phone and made an appointment for a workable date and time. He explained his fees and payment requirements on the phone. I had a long list of items for him to work on around my home, so the minimum hours were not an issue. Dick started on the job with the most potential for issues, replacement of the faucet on my old basement sink. Despite the old pipes and fixtures, it did not take him very long to replace the faucet with the new one I had purchased. He then made some smaller repairs such as installing new apron hooks in my kitchen and one or two other smaller tasks. He then went into the garage to stop a leak on one of my garage windows. He worked on this for quite some time and caulked around the window and the door to the back yard. He mentioned that leaks are a very hard item to solve on the first try and that this window would probably need more attention.

Description of Work: He removed a malfunctioning sump-pump and installed a new one.

Description of Work: I originally contacted Mr. Wilde to repair a storm door. He told me that he charges for a minimum of 4 hrs at $50 an hour, and says that he told me this included his travel time. He told me to think up other tasks to fill the four hours. It was probably 6 weeks from the time of contact to the visit time, as we could not find a mutually agreeable time. When he came out, the door was too damaged to repair, so he suggested replacing it as an option, and offered to go to the home improvement store to pick one out. He did repair a broken tile and caulked an outside cable box. He was in our home for 2 hours, and I paid $200. He requires cash for the first visit. He ordered the door from the home improvement store after confirming the price and selection with me. He came back to install it, once it arrived at the store. With the second visit, he was in our home for 3 hrs and 15 minutes, and left a bill for $250 for labor, plus the cost of the door and materials. I called him to dispute the labor charge, as it seemed excessive. He confirmed that he computes his labor based on his travel time, as well as the time he needed to purchase and pick up the door. I understand his rationale, but I had thought he might have considered the excess time from the initial visit as part of the time used for the door purchase, as part of the reason for the short first visit involved him not being able to actually repair the door initially, and as I doubted that all of his travel time would amount to 3 hours and 45 minutes. He said that it certainly did.

Description of Work: Dick replaced the kitchen sink, faucet and garbage disposal and repaired kitchen plumbing pipe leak. Also, resolved persistent clog and water back-up problems in bathroom sink plumbing (was beyond what snaking or drain unclogging products could do). In addition, we've previously used his services to repair ceiling fixture electrical and wiring problems.

Description of Work: Dick hung a heavy mirror, replaced doorbell, replaced smoke detector, installed curtain rods, put CFL light bulbs in ceiling fixtures, fixed exhaust pipe on fan above range, built wooden shelves in den closet, built wooden shelves in kitchen spice cupboard, and other small jobs in the house.

Description of Work: Overhead lights in kitchen didn't work;he figured out the problem & fixed it. Bathtub plumbing was leaking;the whole unit needed to be disassembled in order to fix it. He was able to take the faucet apart & stopped the leaking. Assembled a bed that needed to be put together.

Description of Work: Dick installed closet shelves, bathroom fixtures, door knobs, a programmable thermostat, and a flag pole kit.

Description of Work: I am preparing my house for sale and Dick was most valuable in recommendations based on his many years of experience in all aspects of home repair. He was here on four different days and addressed all of the items on my lists and more. Dick also offered suggestions on other household problems that I presented. Among the many items that were fixed to perfection are: Dick installed several florescent light fixtures, replaced weather stripping for a threshold, replaced many door knobs, replaced garage door opener button, fixed a closet door that was sticking, shaved off the bottom of a powder room door that wouldn't close after new carpteting was placed, removed folding doors and installed new smoke alarms, along with incidental problem solving as the days passed. The total cost includes supplies for his work. I will give Dick a lot of credit when I sell my house.

Description of Work: As part of my kitchen remodel, the baseboards were removed or broken when the flooring was installed. Because they were the original baseboards, I couldn't find the replacements in any big box store so needed help.

Description of Work: Came out to see the project and provide an estimate. The work involves electrical so he wasn't able to accept, but he did provide two alternative contractors that might help. I appreciate the advice and the time he took to view the job.

Description of Work: DICK FIXED THE RUBBER SWEEPS ON MY DOORS, INCLUDING THE SHOWER DOOR, REPLACED AND CLEANED THE VENT FOR MY DRYER, REPAIRED MY BACK DOOR, REPAIRED A SMALL DRYWALL AREA AND REPAINTED IT. HE ALSO REPLACED THE SCREEN FOR MY SLIDING GLASS DOORS IN THE BASEMENT AND FIXED THE DOORKNOBS ON THREE DOORS. AFTER REMOVING MY OLD MAIL BOX, HE REPLACED IT WITH A RUBBERMAID UNIT AND ATTACHED A NEWSPAPER HOLDER. HE REATTACHED ALL MY TOWEL RACKS AND TOILET PAPER HOLDERS AND SOME WALL SHELVING.

Description of Work: I CALLED THEM TO SEE IF THEY COULD TO A HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE RAMP.

Description of Work: HE TOOK OFF OUR VERY HEAVY STORM DOOR AND INSTALLED THE SCREEN DOOR, REMOVED THE SEASONAL PLEXIGLASS WINDOW COVERING FOR OUR SCREENED IN PORCH.

Description of Work: SANDED COUNTER, INSTALLED NEW SINK AND FAUCET, DRYWALL REPAIR, REPOSITIONED A BANISTER, FIXED OTHER FAUCETS, INSTALLED 2 NEW EXHAUST FANS, ELECTRICAL WORK, AND OTHER SMALLER THINGS.
