I feel my contractor made a huge mistake when he used cabinets from Customer Service Hardware (CSH) also doing business as www.rtacab.net.Truths about the cabinets: wood frames, plywood, and dovetail drawers. Truths they do not tell you: About 28% of the shelves are bowed or warped. Of the 16 cabinets with doors, about 25% of the doors do not lay flat against the cabinet frame and the door problem could be with the door itself, the cabinet face frame, the square of the cabinet box, or any combination thereof. One door fits so poorly a #2 pencil is easily slides between the door and the frame. The doors may also have other grain defects incompatible with the rest of the cabinets. In what could be interpreted as a classic bait and switch, the showroom cabinets have none of these problems. Advertising only desirable features and "ships from Wisconsin" easily leads a reasonable consumer to believe they are buying some kind of "quality" cabinets. In addition, CSH/www/rtacabi.net does not disclose in its catalogs, online, packaging, nor did I see anything in their showroom that the cabinets they sell are made in China. On 2-4-2010, when salesperson Peter was pressed to explain the cabinet?s poor quality he said, ?They are what they are.? When pressed to explain that statement he eventually revealed the source of cabinets. Withholding material information that could affect a buy?s decision and is illegal under FTC regulations as well as many state consumer agencies. Buying decisions could be affected because the health and safety concerns of materials imported from China for example ?toxic Chinese drywall" or children?s products coated with lead paint. Shortly after 2-4-2010, I complained to NARI about CSH/www.rtacabi.net because the NARI logo is displayed on the catalog even though I could not find CSH/www.rtacabi.net in the NARI directory. Originally, Shawna Brown of NARI told me CSH/www.rtacabi.net is not a member of NARI and are illegally using the NARI logo but the next day Shawna called and said they were a member. They now appear in the NARI directory. Very strange. NARI of course disowned the problem because I got the cabinets from a contractor. It does not speak well for NARI?s standards if CSH/www.rtacabi.net is allowed membership?more thanks for Angies List! The Cabinet Makers Association logo is also displayed on the catalog but as late as 3-3-2010, Customer Service Hardware is listed as a ?sponsor? under hardware only and CMA?s search engine for cabinet shops does not return CSH/www/rtacabi.net. The NARI and CMA logos give customers a very false sense of confidence. CSH/www.rtacabi.net might replace defective parts but my contractor either did not attempt to do that in the case of the shelves or only reluctantly replaced one door with exceptionally abnormal grain. CSH/www/rtacabi.net might be OK for landlords who replace cabinets every year or a cheap quickie fix for a fast home sale. CSH/www.rtacabi.net cabinets is not for anyone who desires a quality investment in their home.
