The following review was written by my son, who hired these guys to perform work at his house: I bought a coupon for an a/c tuneup from these guys on jsonline dealwatch for $50. I made an appointment for 4pm. Nobody had showed by 4:45, so I called. Nobody answered. I left a message, and nobody called back until noon the next day. Sorry, the guy was on another job, blah blah blah. Made an appointment for 5:15 the next day. I get home just prior to this, and I have two voicemails: one at 4 saying ?I?m here, where are you,? and another at 5 saying, ?You?re not here, I?m leaving.? Called headquarters again, and they?re sorry again, and they?ll make sure he shows up at the right time next time. Made another appointment for 5:15. He shows up at 7. He looks like he?s been to h*** and back, dirty, tired, and staggering around, knocking things over in the yard and stepping right on my sump pump hose on the back patio. He complains that he?s been working all day and isn?t happy to be here. Great thing to tell a customer. He does his tuneup and leaves, noting that the contactor switch contacts are pitted. The NEXT TIME I fire up the a/c, the outside unit doesn?t turn on. I took the back off to see what was going on, and the contactor switch wasn?t firing. If you wiggled the wires to it, it would fire and release. So I believe as he was doing his poking around that he pulled too h****** a wire and broke a connection. This is NOT a symptom of pitted contacts! Called back to complain and she said someone would call me about it. Nobody did. Called again, left a message, and never got called back. Called again, and she said she?d have the technician call me. He calls, I tell him the problem, and he says, ?Yeah, I told you that switch was going bad; it will be $150 for a new one!? I told him no, it?s not firing, which isn?t related to the contacts, and I get the runaround. He says he?ll stop over after work one day and look at it. I said fine, just give me a call before you come. I get home, and there?s a voicemail on the home phone that he?s here and I?m not, so he left. Didn?t call me at work or on the cell! Called headquarters again, and she said he?ll be there one day at 5:30, no excuses. Nobody showed up. Called back to complain, and was told I?m sorry. Then Saturday the guy shows up in his personal vehicle, unannounced. Looks it over and tries to tell me it?s some other switch, which doesn?t make sense. Calls his boss, jumpers this switch out of the circuit, and it still doesn?t work, which I told him it wouldn?t! Then puts me on the phone with the boss, who tells me to get ahead of the game I should buy a new unit! He leaves. I call headquarters a couple days later, speak to the boss, and ask if he?s going to put my a/c back in working order the way it was before his guy put his hands on it. He says he?ll talk to the technician and give me a call back with a decision. No call. I can?t say I was too high on these guys touching my unit again anyway, so I bought the part for $35 and put it in myself. I don?t know how these guys stay in business acting this way. I did submit a complaint through the BBB. He responded by getting my last name wrong, as well as claiming several things that were outright lies, including that the date of service was in June, that they told me their appointment times were two hour time windows, and that I was never home at the scheduled appointment times. He then said his tech was working long days, so that's why he was so beat when he showed up. Despite this, he claimed his guy couldn't have caused my system not to start. He then went on about how he wasn't going to be responsible for anything since I had gone into the system myself and fixed it (which I pointed out was only after their failure to respond to me). I would advise anyone to steer clear of this business.

Response from Airtek Systems, Inc.
I, Terry Tehan, Owner of Airtek Systems, Inc. am responding to complaints made by the member (son of Angie’s List complainant). Please read as follows: 1) I meant no disrespect when I inadvertently called Mr. R by a different name that is similar to his correct last name. That is the name I had written down in my service log, so my apologies for the error. It happens sometimes, but we make every effort to correct it if it's brought to our attention. 2) I spoke to my scheduler and she stated that she did tell Mr. R we book in 2-hour increments/time slots. If a miscommunication occurred, which can happen, then I can understand the confusion. This was not our intention at all, nor do we make a habit of missing service calls. The fact that appointments had to be rescheduled was not solely our fault. We accommodate the customer's schedule as much as we can; sometimes that doesn't work with our regular schedule, so we make exceptions when needed. 3) I did call Mr. R and received no answer. I assumed that we would need to reschedule and had my scheduler handle it. She is trained to log the schedule of service calls and I trust her implicitly. I had no reason to believe I personally needed to reschedule Mr. R when I hired a very capable person to do just that. We don't get complaints like this, so we weren't sure exactly what went wrong and where. We simply wanted to make the customer happy within our ability to resolve the complaint. 4) My technician spoke at length with me regarding the comments made by Mr. R and stated emphatically that he only engaged Mr. R in friendly conversation while at the residence and that he in no way meant to come off as complaining about how tired he was or his life in general. My technician simply stated that he listened to Mr. R talk about his day and offered up conversation along the same line. Mr. R chose to take offense for a seemingly civil customer-service technician chat. We have chats with our customers on almost every call and we don't make a habit of cussing or being disgruntled on the job. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion of what they deem as conversation or complaining. 5) My technician also states that Mr. R's sump pump hose was directly in the pathway where people typically walk, and my technician was carrying equipment/tools, so he didn't see the sump pump hose. Again, my technician simply tripped and could have himself been injured on the property as this is a tripping hazard. I don't understand how someone can become angry for a simple accident. The technician did his best in his working environment, regardless of how unkempt/dirty Mr. R claims he was that evening. We get dirty in our line of work; it's a daily occurrence. We do our best to have a professional appearance, but after a near 12-hour shift, that can sometimes be impossible. 6) The appointment I personally set with Mr. R was on June 21st, as I stated previously. I have it written in my service log, so I'm not quite sure what Mr. R is contending. Yes, there were rescheduled appointments and some conflicts, but we tried to accommodate Mr. R's schedule more than once. We did work after normal business hours to service Mr. R to the best of our ability, but some customers just aren't happy no matter what you do. 7) It's quite unfair and rude to assume that I hoped Mr. R would "just go away" after having to reschedule another appointment. I didn't make assumptions about Mr. R, so I don't appreciate that kind of attitude. I've been in business for 17 years and I treat my customers with respect, otherwise I wouldn't still be here. Missed calls or scheduling conflicts occur, it's the nature of the business. A wrong address or wrong time could be entered; a name can be misspelled; and people just have long, hard days and don't look their best. We are all human and make mistakes. If I or my technicians make a customer unhappy, we do our best to fix it. I never tried to sweep anything under the rug or not take responsibility for my part in this situation. 8) Lastly, we feel Mr. R took it upon himself to perform a repair that only a trained technician should have done. He took it upon himself to open the unit, wiggle the wires around, determine my technician was at fault, then took it upon himself to NOT call us, but to buy a replacement part and install it himself. When customers take it upon themselves to perform their own "service" on their units, we cannot and will not be held liable. Mr. R should have called us back and we would have taken care of the issue. 9) Our resolution is to offer Mr. R a refund of $50.00 for the cost of his coupon through “Deal Watch”. We will not, however, reimburse Mr. R for the cost of the part ($36.00) he chose to repair/replace himself, nor do we take responsibility for any issues he may have in the future since he chose to open his unit and repair it himself. My technician stated emphatically that he did not damage or cause any part of his unit to fail. This is our final offer to resolve the matter and we hope Mr. R will accept the settlement. Note: Mr. R did not accept his reimbursement offer of the $50.00, but wishes to continue this on-going rebuttal. The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin has closed this case, and has found Airtek Systems, Inc. at no fault in this matter. They felt we tried to resolve this issue in a professional manner, and had made several attempts to rectify the situation. No additional trip charges or costs were ever charged to Mr. R, other than his $50.00 purchase of the coupon through “Deal Watch”.
