POORLY I had 7 windows (38"X39") and 2 windows (108"X54") and and entrance door and storm door installed. The 7 smaller windows were removed and installed in 1 day (seemed a little fast, but hey they're professionals right). When I got home my wife was very pleased so far. I wanted to see how things went and the foam insulation between the window frame and the 2"x4" opening was not filled entirely. There were voids that I could take a piece of nylon zip tie and push it from the outside all the way to the inside trim. So I call this "show" insulation as it isn't doing its job completely. If you know anything about new construction window installation this might seem puzzling. The contractor folded the nailing fin back and installed the window from the inside of the house. (The inside trim was attached to the window prior to the window being put into the opening). The only thing hold in my windows are the small nails through the trim on the inside of the house. No flashing tape was going to be used on the exterior to minimize water leakage behind the window. So I call the sales representitive, he responds to my concerns by raiding his tone and sounding angry. I thought this to be odd as I still owed the the balance of the bill. He told me the field manager would be by the next day with the installers to resolve any concerns. The next day the contractor showed up to finish the job without the field manager. I spoke with him on the phone and told him not to do anything until the field manager arrives(this is about 7:00am). Field representative arrives 11:00 am looked at what was going on. I explained I went to Pella's web site to find 2 methods of installation of windows, neither way is how my windows were being installed (understand the way Pella's warranty reads, the homeowner is fully responsible for the window and door installation. If not done correctly Pella will not warranty their products), I asked him to provide me with documentation from Pella that identifies this installation procedure is approved by Pella and then I will let Verhallen continue the installtion. He said they don't have that then leaves. Next step is to contact Pella Inc., yeah their attitude was, they provided the windows, after that Pella washes their hands of any ties with the windows they provided. Pella Inc. said I had to deal with the contractor that was installing the windows. Surprise as I go back to the web site to review the window installation procedure it was removed with no trace from their website. (this seemed odd). In short windows were installed, I had issues( leak on the inside of the window), it did get resolved. The normal installation warranty is 2 years, in "good faith" they provided a 5 year installation warranty.(realistically how much damage/rot/mold would you see in 2 years time due to a poor installation) so I would get to have new windows installed again, wall repair and mold remediation all at my cost due to the initial window installation. BONUS I got a comparable estimate minus the doors from Lowes for about $10000.00 cheaper installed. The reason I went with Verhallen was I thought the were reputable, and they were recomended by a former employee of them, and I did not want to stain the windows and trim. In hind site I could have gotten alot of trim installed for $10000.00.

This was super fun and easy. The hardest part was going to the credit union for a small loan to cover the work. This was a low stress fun project. My wife loves the new window and I am happy with the quality of the work.
Description of Work: Ross S. from Pella Windows and Door in Madison Wi came out to our house in the spring of 2012 to bid on replacing two windows in our kitchen. Our house is 60 years old and the windows were falling apart. Ross measured all the windows and gave us a bid. Ross then organized the workers from HLW Builders to replace our windows. The two kitchen windows were replaced in five hours. We loved the quality of the work and the quality of the windows so much that this year (2013) we decided to have the eight remaining windows in our house replaced. In January of 2013, Ross came to the house with a carpenter from HLW Builders and remeasured all the windows and went over exactly what we wanted. In March a crew of two carpenters from HLW builders replaced all of our windows. They even brought in an electrician to move a outlet that was in the way of the new larger window. The job was bid as a "Turn Key" job. Once we decided that the price was fair it would not change.

The contractor, Rick Larson Builders LLC, installed the 9 windows. Rick was pleased with how smooth it was to work with Sam from Pella. They worked well together to get the proper stain color in a timely fashion and to correct a loose fitting window.

Matt came to quote the window and was very nice. He was right on time and prepared. He was detailed and fun to talk to. He was able to give us a quote right away. We did end up going with another company. Our decision was not based on anything bad that Matt or Pella offered, it was more of a price issue. Matt did call a few weeks later to follow up with us which was very nice as well.

We started off going to the showroom on 124th Street. Comparisons were made to other companies including Andersen, Marvin, Stanek, and Weather-Tight. The latter two were a fair amount less but the products seemed like they would not go with our house since we have a lot of finished wood. After deciding on Pella we were given a date for installation. Everything went very well. My wife was quite pleased with the installation team (from A.M. Construction). We would definitely recommend them and will likely use them if other windows need to be replaced.
Description of Work: Replaced ten windows on back of house and changed patio door. All windows were casement windows. Four contained one area of glass, three contained two, one had five, and two had four glass areas. Windows and frames replaced.

They did a wonderful job. I had room reservation that day as I got to know they may not put windows in my house and can't cover them up then what's going to happen. They came really in the day, which they arranged. They operated extremely efficiently. They got in, got it done and got out. They look good and they worked well. I have no complaints about the work they did or the windows themselves. It was little over than $5000 and that was when the energy credit was on. There were all kinds of discounts, credit and stuff. They did a great job. It was kind of a challenge. They had installation of two of the windows because they came as a unit and they were out of place that was difficult to access.
Description of Work: Pella Window Store-Verhalen Inc installed antique windows on day before the thanksgiving. They did floor windows and they did interior wood work as well for windows. They had an extra installation pad and mini blinds to the interior of the windows to protect from dirt as well as dust.

We didn't end up using them. We got two bids. One was for about 4K and the other was for 2K for different levels. They were punctual and professional when they came over for the quote. Alternately we looked at the reviews on Angie's List and there were just too many F's in their ratings. It was unnerving so we decided not to go with them.

The quote was for $8000. The salesman was very professional and very knowledgeable. He did a great job presenting the product and answered all of our questions. The price was quite competitive, but it was still more expensive than what we were looking for. In the end we decided to go with another company as we preferred their product more.

We needed to replace the windows and doors that were original to our 1927 house. Pella had the windows that were the best match to the original windows and the best price so we went with them. With the tax rebate on windows giving all the installers brisk business it put our install date at the end of November. The installation crew showed up an hour late but they worked efficiently and got the windows and door installed by the end of the day. A different crew showed up the next day to complete the window wrapping. They did an excellent job. While installing the door the first crew cracked the molding around the door inside the house. Since it was an old house they had to special order replacement materials. They were supposed to put it in the next week. There was a snowstorm but they never called to schedule a new date. I left multiple messages but never got a return call. After leaving multiple messages with the Madison office I called corporate HQ and asked how they could bill me when the work wasn't completed and my calls weren't being returned. I am now waiting for the crew to arrive and repair the damaged door frame. They are over an hour late this time. I like the quality of the materials and the workmanship but the communication and punctuality is sorely lacking.

The experience went very well. They were reasonable in price. They were efficient and did a good job. We chose a color that turned out to not quite match the color of other windows on the house. In the spring, they are going to repaint the windows that they installed to match the other windows in the house, as if they were factory-painted, for no additional cost. We chose them on the basis of price.

They did a very good job and cleaned up very well. The only concern was that they took the old door out and laid it in our yard and it was sunny, so it scorched the grass a bit. There were a couple of things for which we had to ask them to come back and fix. But, overall I was satisfied with their service.

Noticed first winter, condensation on all interior windows when temperatures fell below freezing due to air leakage. Contacted company with no response after several calls. Contacted call center for Pella and was informed that windows may need to adjust to interior temperatures of home. Condensation increased yearly. Calls made unanswered. No warranty received with windows, requests ignored. In 2002, Ver Halen, Inc, Brookfield, sent technician after contacting customer service manager, Adolf Bona, in Green Bay. Provided a brochure and followed every suggestion. Placed dehumidifer in every room did not change problem. Left windows cracked in below freezing weather, only caused heat loss. Further attempted contacts not answered. Ice formed on interior windows where glass meets wood, when temperatures dropped to 10 degrees or less, ice formed 2 inches up on glass. Eventually, outside aluminum cladding fell off one window. Wood under cladding was rotten. November 2008, contacted Adolph Bona, customer service manager, Green Bay. He offered technician again. Took pictures. Sent us contracts of cost to replace windows. Contract only showed cost no breakdown. Had discussion of upgrading windows and Mr. Bona offered trial window in November. Requested cost of upgrades and trial window was sent in March. Due to delay of sending the trial window in timely manner, no below freezing weather in March so unable to determine effectiveness. Again, requested appropriate contract with no response. Finally received yet another contract providing cost of upgrades with little breakdown and no guarantee in July. During that time, contacted pricer at Ver Halen requesting cost difference of Proline and Designer (upgrade). Informed cost would be approximately $126.00 per casement and awning for full window. August 2009, received new contract without full breakdown pricing upgrade of only sashes at cost of approximately $235.00 each. Attempted several contacts with Mr. Bona and finally spoke September 23, 2009. Requested explanation of difference in cost and stated that we would not understand the reasoning for the difference, stated cost on contract is final. Disagreed and requested an appropriate, fully completed contract sent in 5 business days. He stated it could not be done but would send when time permitted. All contracts were received and signed by Dave Mattson, customer service manager, for Ver Helen, Inc of Brookfield, whom we attempted to contact since 2002 and only received one call in return which was rude, disrepectful and condescending. Requested Mr. Bona send Mr. Mattson to our home to discuss issues with the windows and his response was that he doubted Mr. Mattson would want to be bothered. It would not change the cost nor the service they would provide.
Description of Work: Windows were ordered thru Menards. Not special order windows. 3 double hung, 3 casement and 7 awning. Choose Pella Proline. Used prestain conditioner, stain and 3 coats polyuathan with UV protection. Installed by owner.

In May of 2009 I called Pella to advise the door in the basement was not working and I needed it repaired. Now it is September and after numerous calls back and forth, they have not responded to the repair. They sent a man out approx 3 wks ago, but sent him with no parts. We are back where we started, no response from them. The windows in the home are still under warranty, but they will not take care of this problem.

Seems to be alot of confusion at the store. the installation crew(subcontractor) was outstanding but he wasn't given all of the parts that were needed. The install was done 1 month ago and we are still not done. A second crew came back for finishing work. A stainer is scheduled to come back today. Don't know if he'll be able to complete the work in one stop. We always have to call them to get the next thing setup and there's always a delay in return calls and getting work scheduled. Good product, see if you can get them somewhere else perhaps a good subcontractor.

Pella came out while we were in Cape Cod and when we got home there was garbage all over our front lawn. We asked them to remove the copper flashing and keep it all in tact. We found it all over the driveway and lodged underneath one of our cars. There were huge holes around the window and we had to have them come out twice to fix it and both times they gave us a hard time about fixing it. The window itself is beautiful, however the carpentry is terrible. We decided after that to avoid using Pella for windows again.

They were prompt. I choose them to do bedroom windows because they have windows with shades in between the windows panes. They seemed of lighter quality but maybe because the shade is in there they can't make it the same way. They completed the job in one day and installed 8 windows. They did the job quickly, they came back to repair the window that had a problem. We forgot how to operate them and the sales lady came back to show us again. They seemed receptive.
