I purchased the house in April 2011 with a 23 year old furnace. Assumed immediately I would need a new unit soon however old unit was running fine. Gross's label was on furnace so I called them the first week I had the house for an estimate so I could budget accordingly. When the furnace began malfunctioning in November, I called Gross. The tech was prompt and professional and quickly diagnosed the ignitor as the problem. Service call was less than and hour and I payed the $211 on the spot. Got home that night, cold house and furnace still malfunctioning. I called night service and discussed their after hours rates, they couldn't guarantee I wouldn't have to pay overtime if it wasn't their mistake so I agreed it could wait until the next day. Service tech again prompt in arriving, courteous and professional. After assessing the furnace for 10 to 15 minutes, he told me it could be one or more pricey components (circuit board, gas valve) and with labor I could quickly have $1000 invested and still may not have it fixed, it was up to me. My understanding at the time was I wouldn't be charged for the second call. I was told a sales rep would call. Waited for the call until late the next afternoon (I have no heat). Called the rep, He was trying an old phone number. The tech and the store front admin had my new number. Gross revised the quote, I recieved a competeitve quote. In the mean time I have no heat and determined the pressure switch was the problem which reportedly is very common for this model. The problem was not the ignitor, the circuit board or the gas valve. I am still thinking about a new unit as I have budgeted for it and I recieve a bill for the 2nd service call for $134 two weeks later on December 3 with no follow up call from Gross. I talked to the owner once and the sales rep twice by phone, they assumed I bought a furnace from a competitor. The sales rep and I exchanged perspectives on the situation in several emails as well. The final offer from Gross was to credit half of the $134 call if I purchased a furnace at some reasonable time in the future from them and I pay the other half. They would credit the other half at time of sale. If I don't buy from them I would get a bill in the mail at some unspecified time in the future for the other half of the $134. I declined their offer and commited to paying the $134 to end my obligation to them. I was not pursuaded to invest the price of a new furnace in a long term relationship with Gross.

Excellent. The customer service was great - we got an appointment right away when our AC broke and to get the new one installed. All of the technicians who were involved were very friendly, professional and did a great job. When they were installing the AC and furnace, they were very quiet and respectful and we hardly knew they were there. Their prices were competitive and we really appreciated the manner in which they gave us the quote - doing it right there at our house was really helpful and that ease and professionalism from all of the persons we talked to convinced us to go with Gross.
Description of Work: Our AC was frozen and we had a technician come out to see what the problem was - we had a leak, which he was able to fix. However, he recommended that we replace the AC and the furnace - both were 16+ years old and both were running very inefficiently. He was not pushy at all and basically just said that we should think about replacing both and start shopping around before it becomes an emergency situation. He was very nice and very helpful. We received a 10% discount because we got their name off Angie's List (so it paid for the one-month membership we started with). We had a sales person come out a few days later to give us an estimate on replacing the AC and furnace (and he gave us a quote for the water heater too since that was leaking as well). The salesperson was also great - he too was not pushy and actually sat down with us after he looked at what we had and did the estimate right there at our kitchen table. It was very helpful because we could ask questions while he was there and knew exactly what he was talking about in the estimate. We decided to go with Gross (after getting one other estimate which was comparable in price) and they installed a new AC, furnce and water heater (they did not actually do the water heater but subcontracted it out to a plumber they use but took care of all of the scheduling and details for us).

We contacted 4 providers to give us a quote on this replacement. Gross was the only one who sent someone out to look at the current installation to put together their price. They were the only ones to give us a firm quote - the others were 'dependent on actual cost to install'. Gross was the 2nd lowest price, but by far the most professional and we appreciated the firm price. They were prompt & professional with the installation. The technician was friendly, efficient and left everythin neat & clean. When the city inspector came to inspect the installation, he even commented on what a nice job they had done.

I used the link on Angie's list for Gross to request more information (like do they visit the East Side and approximate service charge). I got a response the same day from Ann at Gross and appointment was made the following week . On the day of the service the tech called me to let me know when he would be there and he was there as promised! There was a leaky valve that I was concerned about and the tech looked at it and explained what the function of the valve was and that upon further inspection of the boiler he would know if it needed to be replaced. When the time came to turn the furnace back on, the tech noticed that my thermostat was blinking and asked if I had extra batteries which I did. So he put them in for me. Then he told me that the furnance checked out OK but there were some other problems. He explained the problems and showed me what needed to be done. one of which was that valve that was leaking. The work he thought would not be that expensive and later when I made a follow up appointment I found out that the estimate was less than I had expected. I also found out that since this is a follow up there would not be a van charge. So now I am waiting for the follow up visit on 8/25. So far I am very impressed with Gross Heating and Cooling. All of the people that I have spoken to were very professional and helpful and I will use them again.
Description of Work: I needed someone to come and check over my hydronic heating system for the winter and didn't know who to call. I went to Angie's list and decided on Gross Heating and Air Conditioning because of the reports rating Gross as a very reasonable and professional company..

Last October we tried out our furnace and it wouldn't run. We had someone come and take a look, and he found the heatwexchanger was shot. The furnace was over 20 years old, and we decided to replace it. We had several estimates done, and We decided to go with Gross Heating for price, and the fact that they didn't try to oversell the type of furnace we would need. They came back in less than 1 week and installed the furnace in less than 1 day. They got rid of the old furnace and replaced the old dial thermostat with a digital one. The installer crew were friendly and professional and didn't make a mess. I would not hesitate to use Gross heating again

Company responded quickely to my request for an estimate. They showed up on time, were polite, professional and knowledgalbe. The salemans Jeffrey took time to explain in detail the work that would need to be done and my options. The estimate was very competitive - price was fair. I did go with another contractor but it was not because their were any negatives to this company - I simply had to pick 'one'.

It was difficult to get them scheduled as they were booked up the day I called them and then they stated they could not test/repair my system unless the temperature was above 70 degrees. I find this somewhat strange, but regardless had to wait a week. The technician was very efficient while on site. I was somewhat surprised that a 30-45 minute job tops, cost $134 in labor but trying to get estimates up front out of plumbers, as I found out, is difficult at best. Overall, they did a nice job and the air-conditioner is working fine now.

We were impressed by the person who did the estimate; he clearly knew his business and also understood our space and aesthetic concerns. I can't say enough good things about Chris, the guy who did the installation with his son Brandon. He was exceedingly knowledgeable and made all sorts of extra effort to meet our goals. And they were so careful about their surroundings, and left the house in good shape every day. Overall, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor of any sort.

In early February, I came home from a long weekend away to find my furnace was not working. I live in Wisconsin so it was down to 50 degrees in my condo. I called the company that usually works on my furnace (not Gross Heating). The emergency repairman came out about 3 hours after my call. He spent 30 minutes trying to fix the problem but he could not. My two options according to him were fix the furnace for $900 or install a new furnace for $3,000. I decided to wait and get more estimates in the morning. That was a long, cold night without heat. The next morning I called Gross Heating to see if they could try to fix my furnace. I selected Gross based on all the positive reviews on Angie's List as well as the recommendation of a trusted co-worker. Ann at Gross Heating took my name and number. She called me back within 60 minutes to tell me a repairman was in my area and he could stop by in less than 15 minutes. The repairman, Bill came around 10am and by 10:30, he had my furnace running again. He simply replaced the ignitor and the furnace has ran just fine since. The whole bill from Gross was less than $200. I was so impressed with Gross Heating's response time and professionalism. I was completely shocked that Bill fixed my furnace in 30 minutes and I didn't have to pay anywhere close to $900. I wish I would have called Gross the night before. I could have enjoyed a good night's sleep with the warmth of my furnace. I would strongly recommend Gross Heating to anyone who needs his/her furnace repaired. I know I will need a new furnace in the next few years and I plan to give my business to Gross.

During the furnace clean and check the technician reported the secondary heat exchanger was in the early stages of failure. He mentioned this was a common problem on our model furnace, and that it was covered by a manufacturer's warranty. He filed a claim on our behalf, and came back one month later to install it for no charge! He also diagnosed a faulty pressure switch that was causing the furnace to run longer than necessary. After replacement, our furnace cycles are noticably shorter. We feel that Gross Heating went above and beyond for our service visit.

The process went perfectly from start to finish. Jeff did a very thorough and professional job in providing the initial estimate and determining a start date. The project began and ended as scheduled. It was a four day job and they made sure we had heat every night. They minimized distruption while they worked and cleaned up as well. They were terrific about explaining the new system, including new thermostats and everything works perfectly. They could not finish setting up the air conditioner because of the cold temperatures and said they would contact me in the spring to finish. I assume this will go as smoothly as everything else. I should also mention that they also coordinated their work perfectly with a carpenter who had to remove and replace a finished ceiling. This also was done seamlessly and with a minimum of inconvenience.

Gross Heating and Air Conditioning was a great company to work with. Greg, the sales manager, was the man who came out to bid the job and was more thorough than most of the other professionals we had assess our HVAC needs. He provided a quote in a timely manner and was friendly and prompt as we changed our minds on whether or not we wanted some additional components (i.e. humidifier and filter). It is also noteworthy that Greg was calm and attentive every step of the way, despite the fact that Gross (and other HVAC companies) were swamped with end of the year interest because of the federal tax credits. Gross professionals appeared to work very well together and the company seems to have good management and coordination of services. After we decided that we would like Gross to do the job, Greg arranged for the man who does ducting/metals to come out and do measurements well in advance of the instillation. This process went incredibly smoothly, especially considering our furnace is in a confined space and elevated on a stand. The two days of instillation also went very smoothly. There were a few professionals that came and went throughout the day to attend to their specific parts of the instillation and all were friendly and professional. Additionally, the couple of times I stopped in the office to make inquiries and/or payments the assistants in the office were always knowledgeable and helpful. They also prepped necessary paperwork to have our city do an inspection of their work to satisfy permits and paperwork for the federal tax credit. In summary, Gross did a great job from start to finish and we will be likely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We had our furnace and air conditioner replaced. It was discovered when Gross HVAC and other companies were evaluating our needs that redoing our duct work would be helpful, so this was part of the work that they completed.

Description of Work: When I awoke on the morning of 11/17/10, I realized that we had no heat. To further complicate matters, my husband and I were scheduled to be on a 10:40 a.m. flight that morning, and I was worried about my children being in a house with no heat. I quickly called Gross Heating, explained the problem, and they had somebody at my house by 8 a.m.! The technician was extremely polite, showed me the part that was burned out, explained the problem, repaired it, and was done with the job by 8:45, about 15 minutes before we needed to leave for the airport!
