FIREPLACE CONSTRUCTION

At first, Kent was responsive - i.e. looking to stop by our home, assess our situation, and give us a bid. Unfortunately, he seemed reticent to set up an appointment - he'd say "I can meet you at 10 a.m. tomorrow" - even though I work downtown and it's hard for me to drop everything and drive back to Mequon, WI. Attempts to text him on his i-phone yielded no responses and he never returned my last voice mail and email through Angie's list as I made one last attempt to make an appointment. After I sent a final note via angie's list indicating that I was going with another vendor, i received a call from his wife/partner - at that point, it was too little, too late. I'm sure he's good at what he does, and he seems like a nice man, but Kent showed little respect for my time and didn't seem to want my business. My advice going forward is that, be upfront if you're too busy and politely decline. Otherwise, work around your potential customer's schedule, not yours.

Multiple companies would not touch this job without charging us huge expense to take down field stone front. And this was based on asking us to provide pictures. They did not even come out to give estimate. Also was told gas insert would be to small. Kent came out quickly and gave us all options, including explaining gas insert options. Did a great job! Even came back to make sure additional metal piece was fitted and matched around insert. We got what we wanted with gas insert with remote control, and it looks beautiful. Heats a large open room. We already had gas line, so hooking up gas and electric for unit was less labor intensive. Had chimney chase rebuild with new Tyvex barrier and cedar lap siding. Only complaint was that the pricing on chimney work was a bit pricey. Mary was also wonderful in getting out detailed estimate and receipts to us in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Fireplace Construction.

It went great. I had three other installers look at it and they could not figure out how to retrofit the existing wood stove chimney. These guys knew right away what to do. Did the whole thing in one day. They also helped me pick the perfect unit for our house.

Pretty good overall..they started project a couple of weeks after we signed contract which was nice 'cuz I did not want winter to arrive first. I am stisfied and only regret not trying to talk the price down a bit..Oh well at least we are very much enjoying the convenience of gas heat and acsetics

salesman (a partner in the co.) told us one thing, construction crew (headed by other partner) told us something completely different. 1. Fireplace location had to be adjusted. 2. fireplace insert was not what we agreed upon, we took it anyway. 3. mantle was not what was agreed upon, we took it anyway -looked good in the end....needed some extra sanding at the end before we stained and polyurathaned it...easy enough for us to do. 4. chimney location was changed due to relocation of fireplace...instead of garage roof, was now house roof. 5. Outlet on fireplace needed outlet cover, we bought and installed that ourselves - painting it with home depot stone spray paint. Again, not a big deal. 6. our newly sanded floor needed more sanding after they left. fireplace grout and dirt and scuff marks needed to be removed. We figured that would happen, so no surprise - could have brought more tarps to cover floor perhaps, we used ours as well. 7. needed to order more cultered stone for the fireplace due to relocation. Reminded them about that on day 2. Stone co. didnt have the same in stock, needed to suppliment with a similar type. Looks good, cant tell at all. 8. Hearth stones we picked out were different than what was delivered. Stone co. had different one on display - mislabeled. Had to personally drive an hour away to pick the proper ones up and get back to the house before the guys finished on the last day. 9. attic crawl space in rafters left open in garage after they left...not a big deal. 10. Original salesman never returned our calls about all the issues that happened. Never heard from him again. The completed job looks nice, it was just a bit stressful. Job took 3 days.

It is beautiful. We love it. The workers were very friendly and professional. They cleaned up after themselves. They did it so quickly too. They were very quick and timely. They were very prompt. When we called them back in October, they sent someone right out right away to look at it and gave us an estimate. When we signed up the contract, they finished it up in three days. I would absolutely use them again in the future and I would refer them right away.

Went well. They completed the project as outlined/planned.

I had nothing to praise for Fireplace Construction. You can just mark them on top. They called in, they came, they did what they were supposed to do.

They did a good job. When I came home they were all done. They did a good job with the clean up. I would recommend them. They pricing was reasonable for the work that was done. They let me discuss pricing with them and what I thought was fair.

Dan was a great sales representative and the project was finished exactly to my specifications. It went really smoothly and it was completed on time. They really did a nice job and anyone who has seen it thinks the same. I did not research other fireplace companies so I cannot comment on the price but I thought it was fair. In the future I will call on them to work on other areas of the house.

When I contacted them via their website to schedule a free estimate, they got back to me in a timely manner. Dan came out and provided the estimate. He was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. He also provided good cost saving suggestions. I didn't like that he didn't have an insert brochure to leave with me (he just showed me the one he had and told me I could find it online) and he didn't have any samples of the finishes to show me. He wrote up an estimate on the spot, and it seemed to be very fair. When I called back to ask questions, I didn't get a call back from him for three to four days. He apologized and said that they were very busy. He answered all of my questions, so I called the very next day to say that we would like to go ahead and use them as our service provider, but I NEVER received a call back from them. I had interviewed another company that I really liked, but the one thing that swayed my husband and I to choose Fireplace Construction was the excellent reviews they received on Angies List. Obviously that was a big mistake. They may do great work, but we'll never know. The other company is getting our business.

Every looks good and no problems so far.

Install went great, very pleased with the rusulting fireplace. They also arranged for custom cabinets to be installed to the right and left of the fireplace.

This was a great experience. Dan did a good job of selling us the appropriate gas inserts and leading us through what needed to be done. Kent and his assistant did a great job of installing everything. They were even faster than we had anticipated.

We called Fireplace Construction twice about 4 or 5 days apart and left messages with name and phone number. We did not receive a call back for either call so we went to different supplier. We assumed that they either weren't interested in installing an insert or didn't have time in their schedule for an additional job. We received a follow-up call from Dan explaining situation surrounding missing our call. It says a great deal about the integrity of this person and the way he does business. I have moved my rating from and quot;Badand quot; to and quot;Goodand quot; because I appreciate Dan's taking his time to explain.

We are very satisfied with the installation and performance of our fireplace gas insert. This unit supplements the hydronic/baseboard heating unit for our home during the winter months. Without an appreciable increase in our heating costs, we have been able to increase the efficiency of our old system, resulting in a consistently cozier temperature with less demand on our boiler. During our long, bitter winters as well as the transition months from fall to winter and winter to spring, the insert provides an attractive ambience on chilly evenings. Fireplace Construction did an excellent job in assesing our needs, making product recommendations, and installing our unit. We love it.

The bid and analysis were professional and credible. The company showed up on time, was thorough and prompt. They saved us from a terrible headache and heartbreak. We completely trust them and would not hesitate to use them in the future. We would recommend them without qualification.

Dan Grandlich is very knowledgeable about all aspects of fireplaces. Turns out the fireplace is obsolete and flue is no longer manufactured so we will have to replace everything. We would have definitely hired Dan to replace the flue, had this been an option.

They were polite and professional, did the work on time. The fireplace looks great.
