I had a 10.5 x 10.5 section of my patio replaced because of several cracks in this section. They were friendly and professional and the new block of cement looked good. I was told that the section did not need to have the joints cut as was stated in the contract. About 6 months later, I noticed a crack in the patio and I called them about it. One of the partners came out to look at it and said that it shouldn't have happened. He wanted to talk to his partner about it and said that they would try to take care of me since I was a customer. Two months went by and I heard nothing from them. I called them again and they said that this had never happened to them before and the partner talked to this time said he had to talk to the other partner. I finally received an estimate in the mail a week later stating that in order for them to repair this work, it would cost an additional $1,050.00. I feel that this is unfair in that the work should have been done right the first time and I should not have to pay almost the full price a second time.

Response from NATES LAWN MAINTENANCE SERVICE
The member hired us to remove an old section of her patio that was cracked and uneven. We removed the old slab and poured a new slab (10.5' x 10.5') for $1350.00. Saw cutting joints in the new slab was part of the quote but was not done because of the small size and the fact that the joints by my standards would not have looked very well next to the old patio an d back porch stoop (the joints would not have lined up with the old patio). It is not uncommon to have controlled joints 10' or farther apart on concrete drives and patios. We proposed to remove the cracked patio section and replace it for 1,050.00. Please note this is over a 22% discount from before. I do not believe we installed the patio outside of common industry standards. It is unfortunate that the patio cracked but important for her to understand that even with controlled saw cuts the slab may have cracked in an undesirable location anyway. At $1050.00 for the new patio we would be losing money.
