Kustom Kitchens & Bath Shoppe

They quoted us for a total gut of existing bathroom fixtures and drywall/flooring to the studs. Before work began the project manager Erin said she would be around frequently during the work. She did stop over once or twice but that was all once the work began. Tear out was efficient and well done. Kustom Kitchens workers protected our wood floor and stairs with blankets to prevent any damage and were quick to clean up any dust/debris left behind. Electrical and Plumbing were subcontracted and both were great to work with. Electrician, was friendly and made suggestions on a dedicated circuit for the bathroom as it was not previous to this remodel. Plumbers were also friendly and did great work. Inspections were next and delayed us due to a few issues. One issue was not related to Kustom Kitchens work or the remodel, but needed to be fixed upon opening up the walls. The others were nail plates around plumbing and electrical. The electrician was present during this inspection and quickly fixed those issues once identified. Drywall was next and was fast and efficient. I'm very pleased with the way the texture looks and the quality of that work. Tile followed the drywall and caused the most angst of the entire job. The tile itself looked good but the grouting left much to be desired. There were numerous cracks, pinholes and missed spots in the grout. As I write this review the Tile guy has had to come back out 4 times to fix issues with the grout. After tile was the cabinet, final electrical, and final plumbing. I was very pleased with the quality of the cabinet, after they added the 3rd drawer which was missing when initially installed. Some of the small details were missed along the way. The electrician didn't receive the bathroom fan to install, after another model fan was suggested to them from a local home improvement store, they decided to get the original fan as proposed. The plumber was not told to add a downspout for the bathtub but asked us if we intended on having one which we did. The 3rd drawer on the cabinet was missing and had to be installed after the cabinet was in place. The day for us to do the painting was lost, partially due to inspection results but caused painting to have to be done after the bathroom was completed. The medicine cabinet that was installed did not live up to expectations. We replaced this with a cabinet we found at Lowes that was higher quality and better looking. Plans called for tile behind the toilet but the workers were not informed of that so that was not done as they stated it never made it into the quote.

I had used this company several years ago to build and install kitchen and bath countertops for my duplex, and they did a great job...the similarity ends here! To start, the salesman forgot his appointment with me to estimate my current job. When I called to find out why he didn't show up, he laughed and said that he forgets his appointments several times a month. I called the owner, Dennis Schwersenska, and he apologized for his salesman Rob in addition to telling me that he would handle the estimate himself. Aside from some negative and mean comments to my daughter-in-law about soccer, things went smoothly. The workers took the drawers that had to be worked on and 2 installers returned 3 wks. later to install them. At this time I noticed that whoever put on my old drawer fronts back on had screwed the screws in too deeply and they were beginning to protrude out the front causing "bumps" and several "cracks" in the laminate that is on the drawer fronts! I pointed this out to the installers. One installer immediately implied that whoever had rebuilt the drawer boxes of 2 of the kitchen drawers had somehow damaged all 8 drawers! No comment when I pointed out that the other 6 drawers were original and when I examined the 2 drawers that were reused I noted that the old screw holes from the previous repair were not in-line with the protruding screws which were clearly caused by Kustom Kitchen's work. The other installer was very polite and did his best to bang out the bumps and even apply glue to the areas that were cracked. I also noticed one drawer in the bathroom was not closing flat with the cabinet frame (one bottom corner was kicked out by 1/4 inch). I pointed this out to the same installer who told me there was nothing he could do to correct it. When I talked to Dennis the next day, he told me that his workers did the best they could given the fact that my drawer fronts are "cheap particle board with laminate". If I knew that this was going to happen, I would have shopped around for another company who was capable of doing the job without damaging my drawer fronts. Then I told Dennis that the ill-fitting bathroom drawer had nothing to do with the quality of the cabinet and that his installers just didn't install the tracks properly. He then offered to have the installer come back to see what he could do to fix it. Several days later the installer did come back and in less than 10 minutes fixed the improperly track/glide so that the drawer fits better. Bottom line...I paid top price for low quality work! No discount was offered by the owner to compensate me for this inferior work. In fact, the bill (which I have reluctantly paid )arrived a day after the installers came the first time.
