Description of Work: I would not use them again. Initially things started off well. We pointed out things that needed to be redone and some of them did get done. What really upset us was the work near trim and near the roof edge. Very sloppy work. I had to go touch it up. I would not use them again.

Description of Work: College Works was contracted to prep and paint the house and trim on a single-story ranch. | |Prep included scraping flaking paint that was determined to be lead-based and would require hazmat measures. We expected hazmat suits, containment with plastic draping, HEPA vacuums, but no extraordinary measures were taken; the paint was simply scraped, the flakes littering the ground and deck and left to us to pick up. | |Patches of paint were sprayed on the driveway, our lawn and the neighbor's lawn, killing the grass, when clearing the spray nozzle or checking the spray pattern. Overspray was on the deck and on two windows, including the glass and frame. Trim paint was on the frame of one window. | |Other small items like thin spots or skips were satisfactorily addressed when brought to their attention. | |Part of the problem might have been that we were at the end of their schedule; the students were going back to school shortly with ten houses left to do and, undoubtedly, under pressure. The work was rushed and attention to detail was missing. To their credit, the students were polite and well-mannered, but they're young, lack experience and it shows. |

Description of Work: Utterly horrible. Worst contractor experience ever. Biggest mistake I've ever made. Wish College Works would've given me some kind of refund. Rep talked a good game. I believed her but ultimately, she didn't deliver. Hired them to do a touch-up. Paid a deposit. Didn't hear from them. They were responsive when I contacted them about when they would do the job. They were punctual at that point, but too punctual. Came over and did the job in the rain. They claimed job was done, but I spotted several areas where they did a sub-par job or just simply did nothing at all. Demanded that they come over and finish the job. They did, but not without feet-dragging. I still wasn't satisfied. Team leader pretty much made it clear that they were done with this job, and I really didn't feel like fighting with them anymore. They did take care of the isolated bits of peeling paint but paint they used looked thin and didn't properly cover. | |In the final analysis, I have to say that if someone from College Works comes to your door, despite what they say, whip out a cross and garlic. They are nothing but blood-sucking con-artists.

The job went very well. It started a bit late due to rain and rain stopped the job twice but aside from that the boys did a great job. They even did some extra things not part of the agreement. I would hire them again or recommend them to others. I believe the effectiveness of the team on the job is due to the leader. Ours was a young man named Dominic and he was very ,very dependable.

July 18, 2013 I am delighted to write on behalf of Mr. Jordan Young, College Works Painting intern. From the very beginning, when he stopped by our home to inquire if we were interested in having our home painted by College Works, through the completion of the project last week, my wife and I were extremely impressed by Mr. Young. His character, sincerity, work ethic, and professionalism are a credit to himself, and to College Works. Simply put, everything Jordan promised was done – and more. He and his crew were a joy to work with, from start to finish. We've received nonstop compliments from our neighbors about the incredible paint job provided by Jordan and College works, and I expect he will gain future business here because of his outstanding work. The price agreed upon was the price we paid, and the work was completed in just a week, despite some rain, which might have delayed any painting contractor. To make up for the rain, Mr. Young and his crew put in ten to twelve hours or more most days, working tirelessly and meticulously. His walk-throughs at the end of each day ensured that we were happy every step of the way. On several occasions, he caught very minor details that we would have overlooked without his expert eye for and attention to detail. Jordan is a fine young man, who represents his company in the absolutely best possible light. An example of Mr. Young's total professionalism occurred on the last day of painting. While our neighbor had parked his car away from our house, near the end of his driveway, a sudden gust of wind (on an otherwise calm early morning) blew some paint on his car. Jordan and one of his crew members immediately worked to remove all of the paint from the vehicle, but a few traces remained. Jordan then arranged for a friend of his, who owns an automobile detailing company, to completely detail the exterior of my neighbor's vehicle. The car now looks fantastic, better than before. This type of commitment to total customer satisfaction is rare, and we greatly appreciate Mr. Young's conscientiousness. Our neighbors are quite impressed and happy, too! My advice to prospective customers: hire Jordan Young and College Works Painting. You'll be more than pleased, as we certainly are. We recommend Jordan and College Works Painting wholeheartedly, without any reservation whatsoever. Ron Foster Shorewood, WI

They did a phenomenal job on our difficult home. We have an older home with dormers and many different angles. They were very prompt when the project started even when they were working with difficult weather. They started the prep work and even worked in a light drizzle while scraping off the old paint. They were very courteous and always willing to answer any questions. Each night the work area was cleaned up and left like it was before they arrived. They tried to make up for lost time by working very long hours, I can not fault their work ethic at all. Even though they were trying to make up for bad weather I never felt as if they were trying to hurry the project. In fact whenever I would find a miss they would thank me and quickly touch it up to my satisfaction. We have had many neighbors tell us how much they love how our house now and quot;popsand quot; with the new paint color. I had a great experience with College Works Paining and especially Andrew Goodman and Bobbie Knutson. I would recommend this paint team to anyone.

RE: letter of Recommendation for Jordan Maggle To Whom It May Concern, I initially received a flyer in the mail regarding a college intern, Jordan Maggle. The flyer was asking us if he could paint our house. I was immediately drawn to the flyer as our house was deeply in need of a paint job. My husband Brent Wiegand and I, Michelle Wiegand are extremely busy with work in the summer. My husband is a fire fighter and I am a police officer. Due to an extreme increase in tourism in Door County we end up working a lot of overtime with very little time for family. Jordan’s flyer was an immediate rescue to us as we were desperate for work to be done at a reasonable cost. I called Jordan and scheduled an appointment for a consultation. Jordan came to my home dressed professionally, on time and prepared. It was comforting to know that he had grown up in Door County and my husband and I were familiar with Jordan’s family. Jordan comes from a long line of hard working family and immediately I knew that we would hire him. Jordan had called me a few days prior to scheduling the painting process and explained that he would be a day earlier than planned. Jordan and his crew arrived and began to prepare my home for paint. Even though I knew Jordan had several jobs for the summer he still seemed to create an environment that made me feel like I was his only customer. If I had to recommend anyone for any job to be done, I would want Jordan to be in charge. Jordan always made sure that my husband and I were satisfied with the work being done. Throughout the day we observed how caring Jordan was with his crew to be sure everyone was taken care of. Jordan checked on every crew member throughout the day, and helped out where problems existed. We recommend Jordan for any job that he may encounter. We believe Jordan will get the job done to exceed expectations no matter the obstacle. Jordan is not only customer friendly to his clients, but his crew members as well. We can’t express my appreciation enough for a job extremely well done. Sincerely, Brent and Michelle Wiegand

Josh Wasrud with College Works Painting supervised and painted our house, including window trim and a very high dormer. It was a very pleasant experience as Josh was friendly, and did a professional job. Everything was done in a timely manner. Even with some difficulty in one particular area with the paint adhering properly. Josh was responsive to all the little details. and took care of the bigger problems as well. . We would definitely recommend Josh Wasrud with College Works Painting.

David Crossfield, College Works and his team were very responsive, punctual and professional, without mentioning that they are very nice people. They responded to all of our requests in a timely fashion and worked really hard performing a very difficult task during one week and a half, since our house has 3.8 thousand square feet and had to be painted interely, with dual colors and a lot of details. Not only they painted the house, but also fixed some cracks, fixed loose side porch net, removed bug houses, installed new house numbers and even replaced the external light fixtures for new ones. But the most important thing is that they delivered what was promised in the estimate (professionaly done as well!), the painting was done really well and the house is looking great. We are geting a lot of compliments from neighbors and friends. Beside I think they spent more time than they expected, they charged us exactly what was agreed in the estimate and never complained about it. We definitly recommend them!

We’d been trying to sell our house, off and on, for three years. The house was in fine shape, but we were embarrassed by the condition of our old painted deck. It was pitted, peeling, cracked and unattractive. Then one day, Chad Siebenaler with College Works Painting knocked on our door and asked very politely whether we might have a painting job that needed to be done. Indeed, we did – the deck. Chad showed up a couple days later, cleaned, filled and smoothed the deck before giving it the best paint job it’d ever had. It looked new. That weekend, our Realtor held an open house, and we sold the house the following week. Chad was our lucky charm. He did an excellent job, and I’d certainly recommend his work.

The first meeting was to discuss cost and when the work would be done. Angela kept in touch as the date approached so I could begin to choose a color. I was a bit stressed over the process because I hated my current color, but wasn't sure what to pick for a new color. They were very helpful with this, so I was able to relax a bit. The prep work was very thorough, and I was amazed how quickly the painting was completed. Angela was still on the job when I arrived home from work and we did a walk around and I pointed to a few spots I wanted touched up that some people might not have noticed. I think there are other companies that would have just finished and left the job without doing this step. I gave a B for price only because I did not get other bids, so I really don't know how they compare. Overall, very satisfied with the quality of the job.

David Crossfield from College Works Painting did an outstanding job on our house painting project. He was very thorough and up front in his estimate, started on time, and finished on schedule. We delayed our house painting two or three years beyond what we should have, and David and his crew had more than a project on their hands. Throughout the project David was a hands-on boss and worked very h****** the prep work, scrapping, priming; and followed through with a more than professional paint job. He went beyond the call of duty with the finishing touches and details. He also kept us informed and we had an open dialog throughout the project. There were no surprises with the final cost, which was right on estimate. Hats off to David and his crew!

Mitch and his crew from College Works Painting did a wonderful job painting the trim on our house and pergola. The workmanship was excellent. They were prompt, courteous and paid attention to the little details. Being sensitive to the fact that I work from home, they made sure to keep the outside noise to a minimum, and they left a clean worksite at the end of each day. I had special concerns about an area of trim around our garage, which Mitch handled professionally. After doing some independent research, he was able to locate a special primer to apply to the area, which really improved the overall appearance of the wood. I would recommend Mitch Wanta and College Works Painting to anyone in need of an expert paint job.

As they say, you get what you pay for. We met the college student who came door-to-door in spring. He was local and followed the company line in asking developing a bid and asking us to sign up on the day we first received an estimate. Since we don't really have much exposed wood, other than the porches and garage, we thought it would be a safe thing to hire college students. The price was right and the lead student was responsible. he mentioned a number of times that he wanted to get a letter of recommendation from us when the job ended. Our job was supposed to start in early July, but it was August before the crew showed up. I think they really got rushed and over-committed for the summer. When the crew leader came back to test colors for us, we went over our bid and he said that he had not included our window trim in the original bid. That charge would be an additional $600. I looked back at the original bid and it wasn't written specifically into the small box to describe the job. Here's a and quot;DOand quot; - Make sure you have a separate detailed list of everything, right down to the window-by window description. Their forms aren't nearly detailed enough and I'm sure we weren't the first to have this happen. At best, I would call the job they did and quot;OKand quot; at best. In places where they used a sprayer, they did best. where they had to do edges with dark and light, they did a poor job. I held off on the final payment until we walked around the entire house and had them touch up any places that weren't done to our expectations. they almost seemed put off by having to correct problems that they caused. As I do things around the house like change windows and put up Christmas lights, I tend to see more spots where they were sloppy. Next time, back to professional painters. Oh, by the way, they never came back for a reference letter.

Contracted for complete outside house painting in June. Original person we dealt with was apparently fired. Finally got call back in August. Got a second call while on vacation saying they would be starting even though we specifically said we would be gone and that was not the week to begin. The guy who took the job over was very unprofessional. Prep work and painting was shoddy at best. When they claimed they were done, there were bare spots, uncaulked areas, leftover peeling paint areas, and places that were obviously missed, forgotten or quickly sprayed over even though it was supposed to be two coats. They had overspray on the roof, left messes in the yard, spilled paint on our patio, and painted the door shut. They left the leftover paint outside in the back without telling us (even though they had access to the garage). We found it later, one of the cans uncovered, dried out, rained on and unusable. There was obviously no training even though we were and quot;guaranteedand quot; they were thoroughly trained.. We have two college age kids so like to give collge students the work, but this was - at best - a mess! Do not, I repeat, DO NOT hire them!

They don't follow up on what they say they were going to do.The work was very sloppy. They charged my $500 for 2 gallons of paint and 2.5 hours of work. I asked for a refund for the sloppy work but wasn't able to get ahold of them. Later I was told they wouldn't be able to refund any amount. He said I had received atleast $500 worth of work.Im calling Angie's List today because I don't want this same thing to happen to anyone else.
