The quote was accurate and the service was high quality. The painting/staining crew were clean, efficient, punctual and obviously took pride in their work. They completed the job in less time than originally expected and yet the quality was very high. I would recommend them to anyone.

Jakob was punctual, communicated well, and knew what he was doing. I'm 90% satisfied with the quality of the work - one of the painters in particular seemed put out that I wanted the contracted two coats on the trim, where the coverage was clearly uneven and the old paint was visible under the single coat. He eventually agreed to give the trim another coat, after some grumbling. As far as the finished product goes, I'm happy with how it looks from the street. Up close, you can tell the difference between the sections they sprayed vs. small areas they touched up with a brush - the sheen is a little different between the two. But it's not bad, and looks way better than it did before. There are some areas that I have my doubts about the long-term durability of, but that's where the warranty will come in. Is it as good a job as I would have done myself? No, but I have been meaning to paint the house for a couple of years and never found the time. So in my mind, a B+ job is better than the crummy-looking status quo we were living with. Because they offered a 10% discount if I signed up on the spot, I didn't shop around (I know, I know...) - but the price seemed reasonable given the pricing I've seen on Angie's List for similar houses.

In general we found the CWP presentation and execution of the painting project to be of good quality. The student in charge of the project was likable and communicated clearly and fully throughout the project. We appreciated this student supervisor?s input and thoroughness in the design conference, which resulted in good decisions and clarity. Neighbors have commented favorably on the appearance of the house. Areas of concern were the meaning of ?two coats? of paint and minor, but too many, oversights. The contract with (CWP) offers ?second-coat? painting as a premium for a 33% increase in price but with an increased guarantee. We understood that this would involve putting on a coat of paint and recoating it after a drying period, increasing thickness of covering and catching any spots that were missed. (The paint cans specify drying times before recoating.) CWP practice is not to let the paint dry, but to make two passes with the sprayer head (or a heavier amount sprayed once) and then roll out the deposited paint. Observing the process showed that this was generally the practice. We thought that CWP?s definition of ?two coats? should have been made clear before presenting a contract for signing. The minor oversights included missing window areas in need of re-glazing, uneven practice in cleaning of window glass (using paint rags), an unpainted exterior wooden door, some rough treatment of landscaping, clean-up of brushes and sprayer producing excessive amounts of water and diluted paint in our mulched areas, and relying too much on homeowner inspection and supervision.
Description of Work: We contracted with College Works Painting (CWP) for full-exterior, two-color (with black trim) painting of our 1925 house in June of 2015. This was a big project, 2-story with a screen porch and a number of architectural details. We now understand that we were not only the first house to be painted by this CWP team in summer 2015, but the largest in the leader’s experience.

Mike Voigt was my salesman. He was very professional at all times and promptly returned my calls and emails. My estimate was done on the day of my appointment and the price was very reasonable. After I booked the work, Mike returned with sample paint for me to approve. I am very happy with the work that was done and would use them again for any future painting needs.

Great! Christina was very professional, answered all of our questions, was knowledgeable about the paint choices, etc. Our project was delayed due to the heavy rains this past summer, but we knew there was nothing they could do about that. Communication was good. Once the project was started, Christina and Daniel worked away and did a very nice job. They were courteous and professional at all times, friendly and polite. Attentive to my concerns. They encouraged us to review the work and express any concerns, and when we found some areas that needed attention, they were very responsive. I would gladly hire this team from College Works again. A pleasure to work with. I have no doubt that if any problems would arise next year, Christina would stand behind her work and make it right.

She was thorough, extremely helpful, did research and explained answers to questions very well. We chose not to hire her because the bid was beyond what we were willing to pay, and after doing some research online we were not convinced that the training and experience of the young people who do the painting receive would result in a satisfactory product. We did like the concept of giving young college students experience in managing the sale and the service (painting).

They were very good and did a great job once they got started. They had some hard spots to reach, but did a good job with all of it. They also cleaned up after themselves very well. I would highly recommend them to anyone that needs their services. Now that it's Spring again, everything looks good and everything has held on.
Description of Work: They gave an estimate to paint my house. Zach P was the person that came out and he was great. Then, Zach and two others came out and painted the outside of my two story home and refinished my deck. They also painted a small outbuilding and power washed the house, including scraping. They worked through bad weather conditions and I greatly appreciated their work. They also offered a warranty, which I purchased, feeling it was a good value.

College Works Painters sends college students around the neighborhoods to sell painting jobs. The college student is only the salesman. The company sends out a crew to do the work--and the college student sits on his butt while the crew works. The college student accepted a credit card for my down-payment. He failed to mention that there would be an extra percentage charge for use of the credit card--until the time came for the final payment. There were some scheduling issues, but there always are when dealing with exterior painting. It took them about a month to complete the work from the date of initial payment, so I can't complain about that too much. The biggest issue was in performance. When the college student came to my door to say they were done, I pointed to exterior trim near the front door that was peeling and had not been done. I guess he was hoping I wouldn't notice. So they broke out the ladders again and did the painting. That was in the summer of 2013. In March of 2014, I noticed that the same piece of trim that they had not painted initially was peeling again. It has continued to peel ever since. Additionally, the deck, which the college student assured me would not peel after they finished, has also started peeling again. I provided them the paint that was the same brand they recommended, so they cannot use and quot;poor paintand quot; as an excuse. I will never use this firm again. Another college student came to the door this morning to try to sell me more of their services. Lucky for him, I did not answer the door, because I would have let him know what I thought of their poor quality work if I had.

Paul did an excellent job of painting the exterior of our house. He came through as he said he would and delivered a quality paint job within the general time frame we discussed. He was flexible with our scheduling due to some repairs to trim that we needed to complete first. When some of the repairs weren't completed until after the bulk of the paint job was done, Paul returned to complete the job after the last bit of repairs were complete and that was appreciated. Paul was personable and communicated well throughout the project. I would recommend Paul and Collegeworks for exterior house painting.

I was happy with the job provided. I felt the job was commendable, a good value, and completed in a timely manner, even ahead of schedule. I felt the work crew kept things tidy and cleaned up the site on a daily basis. I felt the intern I worked with was professional and was quite patient through the color choice process. Overall, I felt I made a good decision to have the exterior painted rather than replace the siding which would have exponentially increased the cost of the project. With the warranty involved, I felt it was a good alternative to siding replacement.

This was a terrible experience. College Works is managed by college students who are both inexperienced and unprofessional in their management and painting ability. They were prompt in meeting to sign the contract and collect the down payment, however, nothing was prompt after that. The job started about a month later. The workers showed up with no prior nothice even though we asked to be notified before the work began, even showing up at 6:30 one moring much to our surprise. We were told that the areas to be painted were to be prepped (sanded and power wahsed) but they were not. To make matters worse, the manager lied about it. When signing the ontract, we asked specifically if experienced, professional painters would be doing the work. We were assured that only professionals were hired to work for this company. This was another lie. The painter on our project was a college student who was painting as a summer job. He was a very nice young man, but clearly not an experenced painter - as the lack of quality was evident. There areas of the dormers which were simply not painted, nor were the top edges of the shutters. We singed a contract which called for two coats, which also was not done. When we confronted the manager about that issue, he lied again saying that two coats had been applied. When we showed him areas that were not even covered once, let alone twice, only then did he change his story and admitted that the job was not aceptable. To cap this as a truly extraopdinary bad experience, another college student painter (apparently more experienced than the first one) was brought in to repair some of the unsatisfactory areas. Since his ladder would not reach the peak of the domer, he had to place his ladder in the backyard and scale the roof. The backyard is enclosed by an 8 foot cedar fence which is locked. Without warning or contacting us to let him in, he scaled the fence to gain access to the backyard. In the process, he partially damaged one of the fence posts. Even after a second attempt to correct the areas which were unsatisfactory, proper repairs were not done adequately. At this point we had no confidence that the work would be done properly, so we told them not to return. Part of the problem is that the painters did not have proper equipment. To do a job of this nature, they should have had stabalizer bars for their ladders so that they could have reached the peak areas. Overall, this experience was awful. The company and its emplyees are unprofessional, dishonest, and provide substandard work. I would not recommend them to anyone.

[member name removed], I truly am sorry to hear of your unhappy experience with College works. I would simply like to point out this Angie's List Profile was created by myself, David Crossfield, for the sole purpose of representing the quality of work I personally do. While I work for the same company, you and I never worked together and I would appreciate it if you would direct your complaint to the appropriate person, Matthew Fizell, or to the company's profile which is separate from mine, Thank you.

The job looks great, exactly as we envisioned it. This is the first time we've used a painting service, and the parts of the process that were a little strange to us may simply have been the nature of working with a contractor of any kind. For example, we never really knew the schedule when painters would be here (though it's something we didn't demand because they didn't need us to be home) and initially we were told the job would be a one-day job but it stretched to three days (again, not really a terrible inconvenience for us, and we would have expressed as much if it were). We suspect that's the nature of a painter who's working multiple jobs at the same time. Josh was extremely friendly, had a satisfactory answer for everything and delivered a quality service. He seems very knowledgeable. One of his associates even gave us car advice when we solicited his opinion after one of our vehicles failed to start in the driveway.

Daniel Sweo working for College Works did and absolutely amazing job on our home. When we first spoke with Daniel, we were not quite in a position to have the house painted but we were close. He stayed in contact with us (at our request; he was never pushy) and when we were ready, he came over and walked us through the contract and offered us three different ways the job could be done and gave us the price options for each one. He started the job very soon after we signed the contract and was always very punctual and precise when he said he would be here. He went the extra mile to get our house done. He worked late hours and was back early the next day.He even worked weekends.Daniel finished the job in a very timely manner and was always very hard working and courteous. He consistently conducted himself in a very professional manner from start to finish and we were always informed about what stage he was at and what he was going to be doing next. The crew that he had with him on the prep work days were also very polite, professional and worked very hard as well. The whole team really went the extra mile and we greatly appreciate all of their hard work. We are extremely pleased with the job they did and we highly recommend Daniel to anyone who wants a great job done on their home.

They came out about a week earlier then expected while my wife and I were on vacation. This turned out to be okay so no complaints here. The work was done by the time we got home from our vacation and we didn't recognize our house. Paul even mowed our yard and painted our shed which was not in our contract. Paul's work habits are great, we were very impressed with how he handles himself in a very professional manner, Paul did an excellent job describing what college works is, their training, products and how they do their work. It was a very pleasant experience.

Paul F. and Anthony, two young men from College Works, did an excellent job of painting the wood exterior of my house. Paul came to my house for a consultation and listened to all my concerns, which included a mildew problem and peeling paint. From that information, he was able to expertly recommend the right solution, including mold avenger preparation and better-than-average paint from Sherwin Williams so the problem shouldn't return in the near future. Paul helped me choose a color by bringing samples and applying several colors for me to evaluate. The first two colors I chose wouldn't have worked, so he brought a third, which was perfect. I really appreciate that because I would have been unhappy with my first choices. In addition to the wood exterior, they tackled the job of a bay window with many panes and a porch with screens that needed to be prepped expertly. They did a fine job with both. It was a job I couldn't have done on my own even over a long period of time and they got it all done in about two days. The neighbors have even commented on how good it looks and I am very pleased. Both Paul and Anthony were very professional, polite and considerate, and paid attention to all my concerns. One more thing that really impressed me was they showed up when promised and finished the job when promised. That doesn't happen very often in the contracting business. Thank you!
