I thougtht I hired a good local company "Baldwin Building Improvements" Dale R. Baldwin owner. Dale Baldwin came over to the house to survey the situation of what I had and what I wanted.Baldwin assured me his company could in fact do the job as he had carpenters electricians plummers bricklayers and excavation people working for him. I check him out with the BBB he had two complaints one they didn't deal with the other was rectified or dropped. He seemed like an honest guy. As the process started to move along things turned out not the way I expected from a man in the business for 27+ years. This is how it went, he didn't furnish proper or complete paper work-never got it,didn't check city ordinances out on a timely basis caused delays, didn't check over materials list -serious mistakes made-delays, didn't have the man power he had claimed only two men -delays, didn't have the proper equipment for the job-too small- delays, didn't have efficient demo plan- delays, didn't come to work but two days a week- more delays. The job started Nov 04/2010 as of Feb. 2011 there wasn't even a foundation to build a garage on. Baldwin said it would take three weeks. The weather was not a problem but Baldwin 's excuses were. Baldwin just plain ignored all attempts by me the BBB the Consumer protection agency and my Attorney to get the problems resolved or my money returned. To this day Sept. 22/2012 I still cannot get back the money Dale R. Baldwin owes me , even after a settlement and then a court judgment he just ignores it and goes about his business. This company - Dale R. Baldwin cost my family thousands of hard earned dollars and far too much grief!!!!!!! I had to hire another company to do the job what a difference real professionals make,my thanks to them. If you would like to find out about other people Baldwin has cheated out of money check out Dale R. Baldwin on ccap/wi. he's been doing it for a long time." BEWARE " Dennis Myers

Response from Baldwin Building Improvements
I am the owner of Baldwin Building Improvements, and want the public to know that not all reviews, by disgruntled people are accurate, nor always truthful. If you'd like to know the contractor's side of this complaint, feel free to give us a call.

He was paid in December for the work and after scheduling and canceling with excuse after excuse more times than I can count on both hands, he still has not done the work and when I called to find out when I could pick up a refund check he had the nerve to call me psyco. I have been more than patient with this contractor and have given him chance after chance to come and put in the window. He told me that the work would take about an hour and then had me e-mail him the measurements for the molding about 2 weeks ago. He never had any intention of putting this window in. Buyers -- beware! ***UPDATE***So, now after being reported to Angie's list and to the Better Business Bureau he is just trying to make himself look like he isn't the bad contractor in this instance. He can lie through his teeth all that he wants to. When I called him a little after 9:00pm he stated that "it was after 9:00pm" nothing about being at a banquet. He is just covering up for the fact that he has been called out about his business practices and how he took money and ran with it. ***This is what was sent to the Better Business Bureau about this contractor*** In my original complaint I indicated that the previous owner purchased the window. I did not claim that I purchased the window, I just indicated that the installed window was included in the purchase of the residence. However due to the timing of the purchase of the residence and the previous owners moving out she was unsure if she could arrange to have the window installed before I took ownership. We wrote the window into the purchasing contract so that I could have it installed after she moved out and I in if the installation was not completed by the closing date. I agree that initially there was no rush to complete the installation of the window my wife?s condition is affected my warm humid air not cool dry air so I was not in a rush and the contractor had customers with more pressing needs. While I was not instant on having the window installed in a short time I have been asking/making appointments since January to have it installed. · In December timing was difficult due to the previous owner moving out and me moving in. · In January I made several requests with no appointments from the contractor. · In February the contractor hurt himself and indicated that he would not be able to work for several weeks. · In March the contractor was catching up from being hurt and near the end of the month I was told the window was broken and he would have to reorder it. · In April the contractor said he had to let go of two employees and was behind work again. I indicated that the window had recently leaked during a bad rainstorm that we had and said that I need to get the window installed because I was worried about water damage. · In May he said he would install the window after completing projects involving a fence, a basement, a basement bathroom, and ironically the installation of a bay window. At this point I started asking for actual times and days for appointments instead of estimates like early next week or on Monday or Tuesday. · In June when he did not arrive for an appointment I called again where he asked if I would email the dimensions of the window so he could use the extra trim from the bay window installation to complete the window. I emailed the dimensions of the window on 6/14. He responded the same day and said he could install the window ?early next week? I responded that I didn?t have any trips planned and to let me know when to be there for the installation. He replied on 6/14 that he was setting up a crane and scaffolding for a big siding job and that Wed or Thursday would work best and to let him know which day I preferred. I replied to his email the next day that Thursday (6/21) after 11:00 would work best for me and that I would call to remind him. I called him at 10:00 on Thursday and he asked if he could call me back because he was at Menards. He did not return my call on Thursday or Friday. I called him with no answer on Monday. On Wednesday 6/27 I sent him an email letting him know that I was having trouble getting ahold of him and that I wanted to know what was going on with the window. I did not receive a response. On Thursday 6/28 at 9:06 I called him on his cell phone which he answered. I asked him what was going on with the window and he said that he was tired of making excuses and he didn?t want to install it and would give me the window and installation fee and let someone else do it. He then said well maybe some time next week he could and at that point I said that I would rather have the money but I was not sure what I was going to do with a window how was I supposed to know if someone else would put it in. At this point he turned to someone and said it?s that psycho from the mobile home about the window again. I became angry and said I?m a psycho you are the one who missed 15 appointments and has taken over 6 months to install a window, why is it taking so long. He said you didn?t pay me for the window so it wasn?t mine; I informed him that the window was specifically included in the purchase agreement and that I did own the window at that point he hung up. I called back about 5 minutes later and left him a voice mail that I would pick up the window the next day at 12:00 he did not respond to my voice mail or meet me to return the window. After reading his reply to the BBB (where he said he was willing to return the window) I sent the contractor an email again requesting that he meet me to return the window and installation fee and have yet to hear back from him. I have not demanded that the contractor ?drop? everything and complete my install, in fact I waited for him to complete several jobs and then picked one of two dates that he provided for the install which was 7 days after I emailed him the dimensions for the trim. I do not see how waiting a week and selecting a date that the contractor offers in writing is asking him to drop everything. All that I want is the window and the installation fee that he charged so that I can have someone install the window in my house. I have had to deal with a drafty window for 7 months and a leaky window for the last few storms. I would be happy to provide the BBB our email correspondence as well as my cell phone call log which indicates that I have contacted him 13 times in the last 3 months in an attempt to get the window installed. As of today's date, 07/16/2012 we have not heard anything from the BBB or this contractor.

Response from Baldwin Building Improvements
This "gentleman" bought a used mobilehome, and the original seller hired us to install a replacement window. We have tried to set up an appointment, repeatedly, but scheduling has been difficult, with their's /and our calendar(s). We are still willing to either install the window, or give him back the money, and let him get someone else. I was at a banquet, the other night, and he called my cellphone at approx 9:30pm, and I told him I was not able to speak with him, at the moment. He went into a diatribe, and I hung up on him. He also complained to the Better Business Bureau, and stated his wife was ill.... NEWS TO US!!
