Description of Work: I had a great experience with Dean Evans at Standard Paint. I showed him a piece of flooring that I had. I wanted flooring that would make my kitchen appear larger. He found several laminate pieces and we narrowed it down to two. Dean helped me so much by showing me that the darker piece would bring out the color of my kitchen counter tops as well as making the room appear larger. I took his recommendation and when it was laid I was thrilled. The kitchen flooring just made the room pop. The flooring has a great warranty and will be a joy to own for many years.

Description of Work: My husband and I built a new home which we moved into in June of 2006. I worked in outside sales and I wanted to give the business to local businesses who were my clients. I had worked with Standard Paint & Carpet close to 30 years working with Mike, Chris and Rich in the paint side of the business for over the years and I very much respected their knowledge and honesty. However, when it came to my house I had to work with the outside sales paint person who knew next to nothing about the paint they sell but I didn't know that at the time. I also purchased the laminate for the counter tops, the vinyl, carpet and tile floor coverings as well as the tile around the fireplace. At the last moment, John Sullivan who represented the carpet, tile, etc. part of the business, called to ask if I would be interested in using some "upgraded" carpeting he could get. Since the other carpet I had chosen was 100% continuous filament nylon, I didn't even think to ask if the "upgraded" carpet was the same. The job was not great. The first thing we noticed is that the paint was not the 'egg shell' finish I had wanted but was just straight flat paint. The outside guy was gone by this time and Standard Paint would not stand behind the screw up. So I'm stuck with the paint because I can't afford to repaint it. We also noticed a problem with the carpet. It seemed to 'shed' forever and was matting down in places. We were resigned to living with small bubbles in our island laminate top. The tile job around the fireplace was bad! We have a raised hearth and the ends didn't match, the tile around the fireplace opening itself was simply tiles grouted to the walls, there was no edging and it looked atrocious. About 3 years later, one of the other decorators from the carpet side of the business, saw the fireplace and agreed with me it needed to be re-done. She also saw the bubbled laminate on the island in the kitchen and agreed that needed to be redone also. Her name is Sally, and she stuck her neck out with the owner to get those items fixed. The carpet, made by Shaw, was a whole different thing. It is matted down like matted poodle fur in a lot of the areas by chairs and the sides of the bed where you sit with your feet on the floor. Standard Paint & Carpet will not stand behind it and Shaw will not honor the warranty. We did find out this carpet is a staple set carpet which never last as long as a continuous filament nylon. The "certified" representatives that Shaw sent out to look at the carpet were laughable, their knowledge was extremely limited plus you know they won't find anything wrong because they want to continue to get paid to do this faux inspection. Now, five years after we moved into our 'empty nest' home we find we have to replace the carpet ourselves and repaint the walls soon because the flat paint does not allow retouching and every rub mark shows. This is doublely difficult at this time as I am unemployed and recently my husband's hours have been cut due to the economy. The paint guys are great, Sally and some of the other decorators are very nice people but the company owner will not stand behind anything. Everyone talks about purchasing locally, which I do whenever possible but I would recommend that you not purchase your carpet, laminates, etc. from this local business because if anything goes wrong, you are the ones that pay, not them.
