The owner came out and gave me an estimate, which he delivered by email within 24 hours (everyone else took a week - why?). The crew was extremely professional. Everyone spoke English and was considerate. That's not a deal breaker but it sure makes things easier when you have a question or need something changed. I didn't hear a single curse word or find a single cigarette butt. Everything was cleaned up and safely stowed each night. They accommodated my request to add insulation and did it as well as firms who specialize in that. Price was upper middle and worth it. Stout's recommendations and experience are flawless and the work they did on my house is consistent with that. I'm planning to build a new home, ground up, in the next 5 years and I want Stout to do the roof. Stout's crew is competent and kind. I'd hire them again.
Description of Work: Stout roofing did a complete tear off of an existing torchdown roof and replaced all of the decking and installed a new torchdown roof system with integral gutters. They also installed ceiling insulation while the roof decking was off.

Very well. Very professional team. I had one contractor decline the job because our roof is a "widow maker" very steep tudor. Jake and his team were unafraid, and tackled the job with professionalism and speed. They were a fantastic crew. I would strongly recommend them!

They are fabulous. It was not an easy job and they came in exactly what they said they would do it for. They kept everything clean. I have some large dogs, they were very careful not to let my dogs out. We had requested about no loud music while they were working, and they didn’t. They were very good about everything. I was just really pleased. The additional tubes they put in for me went very well too. I am a realtor and I have recommended them to a number of times since then and the people who had used them had been happy. They couldn’t have been a better roofer. We got four bids and they were not the least expensive but they were not the most expensive. We felt after talking with the others that they understood exactly what we were looking for and we are very glad that that’s who we chose. It was a good price; we were comfortable with the price.
Description of Work: They put a brand new roof on our house. It has a very complicated roof-line; it has a lot of pitches and other things to it. In addition, they also put in a couple of solar tube lights for me.

It went great! The owner himself came out to give me a quote. He got the quote back to me the next day and scheduled the job to start just 2 weeks later. The quote was a fair bit cheaper than the other estimates I got while using the same exact composite shingles and identical venting and flashing. On top of that, the crew did a great job and where pleasant to work with. I live on a set of public stairs (80 of them!) and the crew took it in good stride. It ended up costing more than the original budget but that was do to unseen rot in the plywood and, in the end, it seemed like a completely reasonable price. I look forward to the next rain and not having to worry about a leaky ceiling.
Description of Work: Tore off 3 composite layers and replaced 19 sheets of plywood before installing a new composite roof.

From the bidding process thru to the completion and follow-up of the project, Stout was a professional. Great company to work with. One point about the bidding process was that when Jake Stout came to give us a bid, he put a ladder up, climbed onto the roof, and inspected the entire structure. To us, that's important; by doing so, you know the contractor has seen the area to be replaced and knows what to expect. Other bidders didn't do this. To me, if you don't look over what your need to work on then you are just set up for "unseen" issues. (Luckily, there weren't any.) Only reason for the "B" rating on Responsiveness is that Jake is very busy and it took a little bit to hear back from him at times. Also, once the project was complete, there was some confusion getting the final paperwork to our neighbor living in the other half of the duplex. Aside from that, all went well.
Description of Work: We live in a townhome/duplex structure. We needed the entire roof replaced on both halves. Stout offered the best bid for the work, and we hired them to do the replacement.

The replacement went very well. We are very pleased with the finished product as well as the job as a whole. The roof simply looks great! The quote was very competitive and included features and products that were extra in other quotes. Jake Stout also recommended building a cricket behind the chimney (the only bid that mentioned this). Since I had noticed that area tends to collect debris from the surrounding trees I quickly agreed to it. That area ended up having a bit of rot, so the cricket was obviously needed and will certainly help prevent future issues. The crew had the job completed in two days, with most of the work done in the first day. The crew was a hard working a professional group that certainly reflect very well on the company. They left the gutters and grounds cleaner than when they arrived. They even remounted the satellite dish in the same location it was before, so we had our service back before the tech came out to realign it. We will certainly be recommending Stout Roofing to any of our friends and family that need any work done on their roof.

Jake Stout thoroughly inspected the roof and gave us information as to how long the roof might last and being that he did not find anything obvious on the roof causing the leaks inside our house, he suggested we contact the people who installed the two skylights near the leaks and furthermore suggested we contact a company he works with to come to our house and re-inspect the roof and thoroughly clean all the debris caused by the high winds and multiple pines trees very near our house. Jake was very professional and appeared to know all about roofs (he has a master's degree!) and, in addition, he was very easy to talk to and very informative.

The cost of the roofing was expensive, like all roofs are. The price was as reasonable as any roof installation could be. The quality was really good. I am in a planned development and I was told we are one of the last developments that require shake roofing because it is really expensive. I think they did a good job. The roof looks good and there are no holes in it.

Roof repair was completed in one day and crew was well experienced and coordinated. Timing of service was delayed due to rain and work load of Stout. Stout provided a very comprehensive scope of services in their bid package. Many contractors make back of the envelope calculations without detail in their bid submissions so a lot of follow up is required and written records are absent. Stout is to be commended for this approach to business.

Reason why they are all A's is because they were truly professional, engaging, punctual, responsive over email or phone, and the quality of materials are all above average, as well as the price being the best of 4 local companies that had bid. I'm pretty particular about my John Buchan home and I feel I lucked out by finding a company that met my needs as well as being the best price. Jake Stout has a few crews and I went with the crew that was led by Juan. Have to tell you, Juan and his crew were outstanding. I took a look each day I came home, told them to tweak a few things for me that I preferred and they just did it. You can also go through Jake as they are all super responsive and punctual. They were great about not having any area of the roof exposed in case it rained and didn't damage any of my gutters (hard to do since they were adding all that plywood and such). The materials they use underneath the presidential TL shingles are all double the standards required today. The company also has carpenters and specific experts that will come out same day in case trim or something needs to be modified or repaired (I had a high efficiency furnace that had a different type of exhaust pipe that another gentleman, from Stout Roofing, came out and handled without issue). I went into the attic on one of our heavy rain days to check for any leaks (around vents, etc...) and not even a dribble. Done in 4 days. They send you all the warranty information and a 10 year Stout roofing guarantee on top of the manufacturer warranty. Would highly recommend for quality and price.
Description of Work: Replaced aging cedar shake roof with composite roof of my choosing. Replaced the furnace/water heater vent, installed new honeycomb roof to wall vents, and a powered attic vent that I'd purchased from Amazon (Broan). Removed all waste, used a magnet to remove any nails/staples, installed new plywood, material between plywood and shingles (double the weight of required minimum), and installed Presidential TL shingles in perfect alignment. All new flashing, etc... complete package and the best price over 4 other highly ranked competitors.

The ceiling light fixture in a bedroom was leaking water earlier this week. Obviously, I needed an emergency visit. I was delighted when I called Stout Roofing and the woman who answered my call took detailed notes and told me to expect a call back within an hour and, if I didn't receive it, to call back again. Which I did...and spoke to the same woman. She recited back to me all of the details I'd given her, so I felt reassured. After another hour, I still hadn't been called, so I called back again. This time, a man answered the phone and rather curtly told me that there was no guarantee when I'd be called back. I tried to explain what the woman had told me and he just kept repeating that "we don't guarantee when you'll get a call back." I asked to speak to the woman again and he said they were an answering service and I couldn't talk to her. He took my information again. It's now four days later and I have yet to get a call back. I completely understand how slammed roofing companies are right now (many told me outright on my first call that they couldn't help me). While Stout Roofing has stellar reviews, I do suggest that they tighten up their front-end customer service. The mixed messages and the surly man don't represent them well.

The roofers were busy and difficult to contact. Communication errors led to some frustration during the project, a sit down discussion ahead of time would have been helpful. There were some areas of soft sheathing left under the new roof and those sections had to be fixed. They were responsive to our requests and the repairs look good. The roof looks beautiful and shows high quality craftsmanship. They provided a dumpster and cleaned up the site and the gutters when done. I would recommend Stout Roofing to other home owners.

Jake came to complete the bid - he was very professional and honest about our roof options. Overall, the roof looks great - only took 1.5 days to finish (small house). Our only concern was the poor communication between the company (not Jake) and us. We needed to follow up several times to clarify the schedule, payment, the contract, etc. We definitely recommend this company - just we aware that you will need to communicate clearly (and possible repeatedly) to ensure proper repairs.

I obtained several bids for this work. As I reviewed each one, I kept coming back to Stout Roofing. The owner, Jake Stout, provided me with an impressive plan for the new roof. Jake is very knowledgeable, professional, and has an excellent eye for details which I wanted from a roofing company. I also knew that by going with Stout Roofing, that my new roof would be up to code and current roofing standards. Jake's crew is very knowledgeable, professional, and exceptional to work with. I had absolutely no problems during the reroof. If I could give a grade from 1 through 10 to Stout Roofing, it would easily be a 10+. I would definitely ask for them back if needed, and I would absolutely recommend Stout Roofing for any individual's roofing needs. Kudos to not only Jake, but also to his crew Jim, Gustavo, Bob, Jordan, and Dustin! Thank you gentlemen for a job well done and for being so kind during the reroof. You made it very easy for me to get through the reroof process which certainly could have otherwise been a stressful period. Again, a huge THANK YOU to all!!
Description of Work: Stout Roofing did a complete tear off of existing roof which had failed due to poor and fraudulent workmanship from prior roofing company. In many areas there was rotted wood from lack of appropriate venting and air flow, and multiple layers of old existing roofs. An existing roof drain was also removed. Vapor barrier was placed on top of all new plywood. On top of the plywood 4" and/or 1" rigid insulation was placed. In low previous ponding areas and where old center drain was, additional rigid insulation was placed to create height to the new roof to eliminate the ponding problems. From the exceptional work of Jake's crew, all leaks from the prior IB roof were eliminated. I know that Jake's crew did so much more work on my roof than what is mentioned here. What I do know for sure is that I now have an insulation rating near 40, that I will no longer have to worry about leaks or ponding water, and that I no longer have to worry about getting up on a very slippery IB roof to clean. The new roof looks amazing and certainly exceeds all my expectations!!

Estimator did a thorough inspection and returned a complete itemized quote. Installation team worked very quickly to remove old roof and install plywood deck and underlayment in one day. Returned the next day and installed flashing and shingles. Very clean and professional. Jake Stout returned the following week to repair a couple of minor defects that we spotted and one that he found. I would gladly refer Stout Roofing.

Jake Stout came and gave an estimate for the work. We discussed options either tearoff or roof over and for the roof over option how to deal with where the shingles meet the dormers and how to get flashing up behind the siding tiles. He suggested calking which I was ok with on the slopes but on the horizontal surface I wanted him to remove one (1) row of existing shingles to allow space to get flashing up behind the tile. Jake agreed to this. However, when his men arrived to do the job they had never heard of this and it was not the way they intended to do the roof. The result was me hanging out a second story window ripping old shingles off with my bare hands. Showing the guys what I wanted done. When they roofed over the skylight they did not build up the roof to the level of the existing roof before reroofing. The result was that my new roof looked like it was about to fall in. In fairness, I have to say that when I complained to Jake, he came out and fixed to skylight area himself. Still it was frustrating having come to an agreement then telling the workers how I wanted it and then saying ok ok while doing it how they d*** well pleased. Removing 6 old shingles didn't seem like asking too much. The finished roof now looks good, hopefully it will keep out the rain for many years. Still, If I had it to do over again I would go with the smaller firm who's owner promised to be onsite during installation.

Stout Roofing replaced our old cedar shake roof with a new composite roof, replaced four skylights, and replaced the gutters. We are extremely pleased with the new roof and skylights. The work on the roof and skylights was professional, efficient, well-done, and completely to our satisfaction. However, the gutters were poorly hung. Of the seven sections of gutters, four slope away from the down spout and one has a dip in the center. I consider that the installation of new gutters that are sloped to have an inch of standing water in them to be, at best, very sloppy workmanship. I have talked directly with Jake Stout twice about this, and he each time he tried to convince me that the sloping issue was not a problem that needed to be corrected. But during each call he did also assure me that his gutter crew would contact me to arrange to resolve the issue. No one from the gutter crew ever called, and Mr. Stout never called to check to see if I had been contacted or the work was satisfactory. I am very disappointed that Mr. Stout was unwilling to resolve an issue that should have been fairly simple to correct.

Our experience with Stout roofing was amazing. Jake was prompt in scheduling the initial visit to review the project and provide an estimate. Time spent with Jake was well spent. He was polite, courteous, educational and enjoyable. Upon agreeing on the bid, the date was scheduled, shingle colors were decided and the adventure began. Jake was actually able to do the work a week earlier than originally planned, which worked well for everyone as it was a full week of sun and no rain and we were done earlier, rather than later in the year. Everyone who worked for Jake was polite and considerate of our house and our neighbors.

I emailed Jake on a Saturday morning looking for a re-roof estimate. He replied a few hours later and was here on Monday afternoon to look at the roof. He emailed the estimate, along with information on a variety of different shingles, references and company history. I had 2 other companies provide estimates as well and Stout Roofing was the lowest. This, along with great ratings on this website made the decision easy. On the day of install the dumpster showed up and the roofers shortly thereafter. The 3 guys worked all day and completed the entire job by 5pm. The yard was left clean and the roof looks great. Jake was out the next afternoon to inspect. Overall, it was a better experience than expected.
